  • This is great music man. You really sound like an old blues master.

I just started to learn fingerstyle guitar. One day, i want to play the blues just like you.

This is the blues that everybody is talking about. It's real, raw and it's just great!

    A fan from Holland!

  • @Seagull12string Thank you for your interest and kind words. Learning finger style will help build a solid foundation for this style of playing. When you do decide to add the slide for Delta style it will be much easier. Please feel free to write if you have any questions. Enjoy.

  • The voice, the dexterity and pure musicality of this are magical ! It should be essential listening for any aspiring blues artistes and those who cover traditional music in their repetoire. Remember, KeniLee does it Best !

  • Yes, I play in open tunings. In this song I am tuned DGDgbd low to high. This is open G tuning or aka Spanish Tuning. Enjoy.

  • Thank you. Enjoy.

  • You have an intresting thing goin there..It's Robert Johnson,Eric clapton,And Son house all in one...Except Eric actually stole the melody for his version from Muddy Waters but oh well...good job.

  • Thank you. Ya, I've certainly been influenced by all these great artists. When I sit down and play, I just work with whatever appears, and enjoy playing around with it. Enjoy.

  • man i love slide

    this is great

  • Thank you. I am glad you enjoyed the video.

  • Keni, I'm having trouble working the bass lines to get a full sound. I noticed you don't have that problem and I was wondering if your video has any tips, or exercises on this so it becomes a natural part of playing. Keep up the greatwork.

  • Thank you for your question. If you are interested in learning this style, I would suggest working first with the Series 1 lessons that are for sale on ebay. Please search: Keni Lee Series two assumes you have strong basic skills. The exercises on the CD are not only fundamental basics, but they also provide tools for creating song arrangements. If you become very comfortable with the basics of alternating the bass and fingerpicking, future lessons will become easier.

  • Outstanding, im sitting here doing some study and 'procrastinating' by watching some sweet blues slides and all I want to do is groove. Im a MASSIVE fan of RJ after finding EC 'Sessions for Robert Johnson' and now all I want to do is make that sound. One istrument and a voice can sound so complete. Well done, ill keep veiwing and learning....p.s how on earth do you learn this stuff, I mean where do you start

  • Thank you for your kind words. If you are interested in learning, please consider purchasing my instructional CD that is available on ebay for $9.99. Just search: Keni Lee It contains almost 2 hours of video lessons, and a downloadable tablature sheet music file. Not only does it teach fundamentals, but it will supply you with tools to learn how to arrange your own songs. Please check it out.

  • Absoultey great. Probaly the best blues player on here. You make this look too easy.

  • Thank you. Please visit my page. I recently organized all the videos into groups. Just click on "playlists". Thanks for stopping by.

  • Sorry I can't spell. I just drank a little too much and kinda stupid.

  • Don't worry about it. Spelling is optional. Drinking is mandatory. Enjoy one for me.

  • this is what started it all-----------awesome

  • i would do anything to be able to play like this

  • Do you know I have an instructional video CD available on Ebay. Only $9.99 Just search: Keni Lee Even if you don't play guitar at all, please consider buying it. It teaches theory and arrangement in a fun and practical way. It also contains this song. Happy Holidays.

  • nice knee

  • Thank you. Sometimes, it seems to behave itself and keep steady time. Other times, it has a mind of it's own and then it's like, "Watch out"!

  • Hello I have been trying to learn slide? BottleNeck Guitar May I ask you which tunning you are using? And If possible Please do some tuition Videos Best Wishes

    Nick

  • Hello Nick. Please visit my page. I have an instructional video CD for sale on Ebay.

  • Good stuff, but you gotta keep a tempo.

  • Thank you for your comment. Keeping a steady tempo is a skill I continuously practice to improve. If I'm playing alone by myself, I often let my mood wander. When there's someone there playing with me or even watching, I tend to be more alert. Do you play? Please post some examples.

  • Hi Kenny and thanks for the videos...mighty stuff. I'm wondering are you familiar with George Thorogoods version of RJ's 'Kind Hearted Woman' and if so, have you any pointers as to his playing of it. Thanks again

  • Thank you. You know, the only one of George's songs I know I've heard for sure is Bad to the Bone. Don't get me wrong I'm not making a judgement, but the bulk of the music I listen to is old 1930's pre war acoustic blues. The style completly changed when electric guitars took over. Is his version anything like RJ's. I can play Kind Hearted in standard and open A.

  • I haven't heard it in quite a while. When I heard you do this RJ track it sprung to mind. But if memory serves me right he done a slide version and it sounded really good. If there is a way to get it to you I'll root through my vinyl and try copying it to mp3 for you. You may be pleasantly surprised.

  • Thank you. To the best of my knowledge, I've heard all of RJ tracks that are currently known. Please prove me wrong. Many people perform this song using more slide. If you own a vintage guitar with high action this method comes in handy. I perfer to limit my slide use, I feel it gives it more punch.

  • very tasty rendition KeniLee!

  • Thank you.

  • You really captured the spirit of the mississippi 'delta

blues',presumably without having to do a deal at the crossroads! :0)

I'm guessing, but was the begining of the piece influenced by Ry Cooder's "feeling bad blues" ?

  • Thank you. I'm glad I didn't have to deal, in the long run, RJ might of become an immortal, but he died an early death. I would rather be an obscure old blues man. I haven't heard this Cooder tune. The intro is based on RJ's orginal.

  • The best cover of the song I have ever heard!

  • Thank you. Walking blues is one of my favorite songs to perform.

  • One of my favs! Like the rhythm and tempo. Your deep is really strong!!

  • Thank you. I had fun arranging this one. I tried to make it a little different, each time it went around.

  • Ooops: after "deep" the word "voice" is missing ;-)

Yeah it's a cool version and one can see you enjoyed it

  • Wow! You sound like the 1930's. I have five square neck reso guitars but I've got to find me a round neck. It just doesn't sound the same on a Martin. Really enjoyed the song.

  • Thank you. Ya, not too many people today, play finger style wearing picks. A flatpick isn't the same. Resonators need picks to get that old time banjo tone. Bare fingers are too soft.

  • I know we ALL gotta play some thing to impress the people,BUT what have any of us done to cary on the spirit of "NEW bLUES" ?

  • Thank you. Well I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel. I just like the old time sound of fingerpicking bottleneck on a resonator guitar. Trust me, there are a lot of players out there, with more talent than me, putting a "new" spin on the blues. Please post some videos that explain your position.

  • Agree, v inspirational. Ive just purchased my first slide and hope that soon i can knock out classics like that soon :). Keep it going.

  • Thank you. Looking forward to your bottleneck videos.

  • Thank you. That's some screen name. Never played Bluegrass, but I've always been influenced by banjo. Open G tuning is very coomon in banjo playing and bottleneck guitar. Enjoy, more on the way.

  • Nice video! It's great insperation for younger players like me. You remind me of my uncle up in Virginia Moutains, he showed me how to play, and introduced me to BlueGrass. Keep them coming.

  • great stuff , man!

  • Thank you. Stay tuned, more on the way.

  • Really really nice. Played with feeling. Lovely guitar, too.

  • Thank you. The guitar neck was replaced with a new 14 fret neck from National Resophonic. The original neck was in very bad condition. The original duco crystaline finish was restored by Elderly Instruments.
