Between 2003 and 2007 the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission sifted through the documents and the evidence of the megrahi case. After 4 years they concluded a miscarriage of justice had taken place and megrahi was granted a second appeal, which i believe would have freed him.

McASkill claims it was on compassionate grounds, but it sounds to me like he caved to the demands of Al Megrahi's lawyers and Libyan accusations of injust ruling. The reason he was let out now was to avoid a VERY embarrassing appeal that was coming up. It was going to exposure the whole original trial/Scottish legal system as a joke. Fours years ago the Scottish Justice Dept said 'likely he had a miscarriage of justice'.

This guy was stiched up. He was tried without a jury. His lawyers were refused to lead vital evidence. His conviction wiped the slate clean for the corrupt Scottish legal system. If his appeal was heard he would have walked free. Scots Govt. made a deal. If he withdraws his right to appeal he will walk free. OK you think I am mad. Ask youself the question did you ever hear any doctor say he has cancer?... No.. just politicians. If his appeal was heard we would still be looking for the bombers.

The scottish actor who appeared on the 'One Show' yesterday claimed in his opinion that he believed he was innocent having done a documentary on him and called it a 'set-up.' I find it suspicious that one man is capable of creating a sophisticated bomb, concealing it, planning and knowing exactly where to place it on a plane he's not even travelling on. Fake passports etc, personally I feel more people were involved and they should be brought to justice, no matter how ugly the truth.

BUT in 1999 Scotland obtained Devolution from the UK Parliament, i.e., certain powers were devolved to the newly formed Scottish Parliament. Court proceedings and matters to do with justice and the law are a matter for the Scottish Parliament, not the UK Parliament in London. Idiot.
