I saw one of these last weekend. It belongs to my buddy's brother. They are both 07/02 SOTs There was something wrong with the G41. One of the rollers fell out of the bolt and he didn't have any spare parts on hand. We had to shoot the G33 instead. : )

The G3, MP5 and all similar guns by H&K are all roller delayed blowback.
They have made roller delayed blowback weapons in 5.56x45mm NATO, that didn't take STANAG magazines, and the G36 (which isn't roller delayed blowback) I think can take STANAG, but I think you have to insert an adapter for that. They made the 416, which is essentially an M4, so it would take STANAG.
If there is a STANAG magazine for 7.62x51mm, you probably cant fit it in a G3 without modifying it or something.

@Kaltwasser45 G36 is conventional gas opperated. 416 is not. Thats what makes it easier to clean, and different from the M4 and M16... The piston replaces the conventional gas opperated system, and makes it much less prone to error by preventing the introduction of high-temperature gas and carbon into the bolt carrier group. The M4, M16, and G36 are all gas aopperated. The 416, and the 417 are not.
@ortausti I guess I wasn't completely right. Aparenty the G36 has a rotating bolt like an M16 but a short stroke gas system like an AK & FAL. The gas vents close to the forearm making it run cleaner & cooler than a m16/m4. I just read this I thought it was exactly the same as th 416.
I like the design of the G3 a lot, but the 417 weighs less, also, unlike regular AR-15's, the 417 doesn't vent gas into the receiver (Why the M16 is designed to do this is anyones guess, but this sounds like something they should have solved with the M16A1) .
I guess the 417 would be more practical, but I like the G3 more, even if it weighs more and kicks like a mule. (Dad said it'd turn your shoulder blue).

Sound enough to be used, yes, but I still think that it should have been done differently. Venting excess gas directly into the receiver just doesn't sound like a good plan to me.

@prsguitar13 Yes, I believe the first of the "G3 variants", if you want to call them that, were 7.62 "battle rifles" in the same vein as the FN FAL. I could be wrong, and I'm open to correction.
That's exactly what all of NATO did. They went from the 7.62 (which we forced on them) to the 5.56 (which we forced on them more or less). Essentially, military loadings have been getting smaller and faster for two hundred years thanks to changes in technology and the logistical advantages of lighter and smaller ammo. There are some some tactical advantages too but I don't want to open that can of worms.
The typical CoD fan tends to be a nerd with a mental disorder that keeps him from owning weapons of any sort. Makes sense, considering most of them are complete basket cases. Thumbs up if anyone agrees.
Actually, the main demographic of CoD is fratboys and casual gamers. The truly big nerds don't seem to like it very much. I find the gameplay boring, and it gets a lot of things wrong with guns, which wouldn't bother me nearly as much if the gameplay was good.

@1257374 The gun was not empty after firing the burst with the first magazine, and as such there was still a round in the chamber. Pulling the bolt back before reloading when you already have a round in there means wasting that round, which is completely unnecessary

Thats because HK stuck with the G3's main design (because IT WORKED) to make most of its guns, the PSG-1 (the accuratized G3), the MSG-90, MP5, G41, HK 93 and the HK21, and all of the different models of those weapons...
