You're actually wrong there. The oldest Gael kilt ever to be found was discovered in Ireland. However, even that is not where Celtic kilts originate from. They originate from Galicia in Spain...and once again, that is not where kilts originally come from. They go back at least as far back as the ancient Egyptians. In short, oldest known kilts from Egypt. Oldest known Celtic kilts, Galicia. Oldest Gael kilt, from Ireland.

@CelticTopCock Actually it all depends on how one defines "kilt". In general several male clothings of a semi similar style has existed (and exists) in many cultures through history. The Scottish "original" kilt would be the belted plaid (feilidh Mo´r) witch doesent really resemble the modern kilt (Feilidh Beige) much anyway. The word "kilt" is actually most likely Norse. The vikings wore something called "Kjalta" witch was much like the belted plaid.The Irish have the "Lein Croich".

Kilt - It is an important part of oor history/culture going back hundreds of years. It is recognised world over. I am Scottish born and bred and have worn it all over the world and instantly recognised as a jock. Not only is the kilt recognised as being Scottish the tartan also states oor family name .

As for these American/Canadian and now English Utility kilts - Well these are skirts...nothing more!

Yes Regimental vs. Traditional is the correct word for. In ancient Times the scot ´s knot the Ends of their Shirts together ,between their Legs. Thats were the Substitute for undies.

Today Shirts ar too short to try this.

Of course ,when it is pretty hot outside i also wear only Socks and shoes underneath.

Yesterday we had the hottest Day in History. 38 up to 40 Degrees Celsius.

I wore Kilt Jacobite Shirt and nothing else. It was too hot!

It is an Myth ,that nothing is worn underneath an Kilt. It was a Regulation in the schottish Regiments : To wear undies when you are: Together with Femals, during Exercises and Competitions and while you are in an Mess.

It was MILTARY ORDER: It has nothing to do with something civillian.
