The Planet of The Apes in the 1960s were some the best costumes that could be created in its time. Patterson was an ametuer film maker with a monkey suit( probably of very low quality given his financial situation at the time). However even today people still have difficulty trying to replicate a suit that can exhibit the skeletal muscles in such detail. Look at all of those back muscles and some of them even contract! No ways thats a monkey suit..

if this is a man in a suit its remarkable, however there is one thing that looks questionable when the face turns towards the camera in the magnification it looks like eyeholes as in a mask , i dont actually think the arm length or walk are proof its not human , and if bigfoot exists then british columbia would seem more remote and likely than california but this is still pretty impressive and no one can reproduce it satisfactorily

The fact that Patterson was a filmaker that had planned on making a fictional film about bigfoot leads one to believe this footage was a hoax. looking at the film, it's hard to believe it's a hoax. One thing is sure, I sure enjoy watching this clip.
Snuffy: Patterson was only an aspiring film maker. And he really had no financial means, so he had to resort to renting an old home movie camera to begin filming a documentary of his, and others, search for bigfoot. This is why he had a camera on that fateful day. He had used up most of the film just filming the trip itself for the documentary. He had no plans for a science fiction film about bigfoot.

Yeah I've recently done some heavy research into the "man in the suit" idea and it's a complete mess of bull shit. Just a couple of guys wanting publicity (Bob H. and Chambers). It's rediculous anybody would even consider them the true culprits. I just returned from a BFRO expedition and can say with fair certainty that we had one come quite close to us.

At the end it pretty much explanes how it could'nt have been a man in a suit because of the body shapes and ratios and how it was almost impossible for it to have even been a suit, atleast not in that time.
@Vortigern99 Well, I was wrong. The seeming muscular movement is not consistent with actual contraction and is more in line with the features of a padded, close-fitting suit. Material folds are indeed visible on the lower legs of the subject. The "flexing thumb" can be explained by gloves. The limb ratio is not at all inhuman. And muscle suits such as those used in the 1930s MGM Tarzan films and the Star Trek "Gorn" suit from 1966 make it clear that such suits were indeed available at the time.

These enhacements PROVE it's real. All the things people say that "proves it's a man in a costume" can easily be debunked with this footage. Plus, the real reason people think it's fake is that BBC broadcasted commercials in the 1990's saying that it was proven to be fake. It was not even close to proving it.
The Patterson video is the only clear footage that stands up to intense scrutiny. I notice a new detail every time I view it. Watch the hip area at 1:00 you can see a well-defined, round muscle group at the hip in front of the butt, I think it's called the gluteus medius. It's clearly visible moving -- not possible with a costume. I know, I do creature/costume design. How would they know to put a moving gluteus medius muscle into a costume anyway!? Skeptics - explain how this can be faked!
I haven't been that close to them yet for any length of time. The up close encounters are there and gone. The ones at around 50 yds last up to half a minute, sometimes more before they vanish into the woods again. At night of course they come very close making noise on purpose, but I can't see them then.

Good point, but what about how effortlessly fast she is moving? And the thumb touching the hand - I think it would be very difficult for a struggling movie maker to construct a suit with animatronic arms with finger controls, and since the arms have a somewhat longer - than - human proportion they would have to be some kind of extended glove or something.
@edyken77 They may have added some kind of extensions to the hands. I doubt they would have to be animatronic; they'd flex somewhat on thier own while walking. I don't think Patty was moving all that fast.

I would like to say that after interacting with this creature for over 40+ yrs. that the "pad" on their foot that you are talking about is just that, it is one solid,calloused continuous pad. Think about walking your entire life outside without shoes in the woods on sticks,stones,cold,snow,pine needles etc. It would/should become as a piece of leather,thus accounting for their strange looking tracks.Each one is different yet similiar~ a skin pad
Have you also noticed how much thicker their toe and fingernails are compared to ours. I would guess 3 to 5 times thicker and always at least 2 fingernails sharpened on each hand for cutting with.
Yep, that's how they tend to look from a distance. What you are seeing, of course, are the fatty cells that comprise the pad of the foot, they provide insulation and cushioning for all of that weight.
It was a sunny day, yes, and those who say mask haven't got eyes in their head, as the face clearly alters motions. It's alive, in other words. Also, the head turns slightly before the torso, which - combined with tallness/proportions of the whole body - only underlines it's next to impossible to be hoaxed. Not only anatomically not possible, let alone mastering that odd primate-like gait. How would cowboys know Bigfoot anatomy? This is not a (known) human being, it's a genuine Sasquatch.
I think this is interesting: In the first still note that the brow-line is protruding very heavily, obviously. Then when it looks at you, that ridge is completely in line with its sight. What I mean is that it was looking at the camera at the exact angle that it should be with its brow-line lined up when used for blocking out light or w/e for an actual living creature. Hope that makes sense!
I have seen this video hundreds of times since I was a kid. I have always wanted to believe it was real. It is the only one, photo or film, that has fit what I imagined one would look like. But now I see folding, buckling, where the leg meets the hip/butt, which is not natural flesh buckling. And there's something about the feet and the walk that is too human; human with big shoes-like.

Gorillas are there, we see them all the time. We have nowadays the means to track any animal we think that exist. Apes always live in groups. Tracks have been found, strange noises heard by rangers & outdoors men (people who KNOW what sounds should come from the forest). Yes there are no identified remains but bodies decay quickly in the wilderness (a few weeks) & that's not taking into account scavengers disturbing those remains.

Bodies decay quickly. Bones not that quickly. If you know a bigfoot passed by a place, you can follow him, you don't need one year to go again to that place and follow the tracks.
Bones are often carried away by scavangers piece by piece and scattered for miles. Running into a carcass of any animal is a rare thing in the wild. The technologies you speak of could indeed bring bigfoot out in the open, but they have limitations. Heavy tree cover or caves will hamper night vision or infra-red. The forest does not exactly light up like a Christmas tree when these are used.
Maybe yes, maybe not. We know bigfoot for more or less 100 years. I don't actually believe that in 100 years and so many spottings and tracks, we couldn't find it!

We are talking something more intelligent than most animals. Let us think for a moment how settelers came into their world. They were very hostile to Lumberjacks, and Goldminers had very disturbing encounters. They have most likely learned to stay clear of man when possible. For any rare or endagered species the secret to survival is to avoid man, and something as smart as Bigfoot will do this very effectivly.

If they wouldn't want to be spotted by humans by any mean, they would avoid any contact, but many witnesses point that they have been attacked by them, or I think the bigfoot filmed would run away when spotted by patterson. or not?
Well, it didn't exactly stick around when it saw them. Maybe she didn't break out into a full run, but many animals will take that approach because running can provoke something to chase you. Most bigfoot encounters are chance to begin with and don't happen every day. Occasionally these creatures do venture out sometimes and are spotted. Or, as in the case of Patterson, we wander into their territory. They were on horses, and probably downwind from her. She got caught by suprise.
Yes, and there are fossils of a large bipedal primate very similar to bigfoot that lived in the time of homo sapien, and it is thought that homo sapien hunted it.
I assume you are speaking of the noises he heard while hunting with his friend. It kind of reminds me of the story 1q1 talks about, if you remember him from earlier posts. Roosvelt was an experienced outdoorsman and I don't think he would have been that frightened by something if it was something mudane. Hearing those Bigfoot screams must really put the fear of God in those that hear them in person and close by.

It's been awhile since I have read that story, but I recall that the one that was found dead had shot at the creature the day before, causing it to run off.
Ah, yes. Well, as I recall there are 2 or 3 stories that Roosvelt over the years had recounted or experienced. This one you're talking about has always intrigued me when I've heard about it, and I'm sure it did happen.
Bigfoot seem to show a lot of aggression towards either lumberjacks, gold miners, and in this case, trappers. I will research it and see if they shot at it, but I don't recall they did either. Seems like they heard it stalking them as well.

Pause at :35. You can make out better detail about the foot right before it goes behind the log. Whatever it is, it is not a shoe. It has all the appropriate shape of a foot.
The feet also have toes that lift up right before the heel strike, as would a lving funtional foot...Philip Morris maintains that he recognized the suit as one of his gorilla suits, as soon as he saw the feet. Let me ask this then...what gorilla suit for rent or purchase ever had 14 inch feet with 5 toes in a row? Every gorilla suit I've ever seen has the splayed toes with that opposable big toe to the side. Has anyone ever seen a gorilla suit with feet like Pattys??

if this is a man in a suit its remarkable, however there is one thing that looks questionable when the face turns towards the camera in the magnification it looks like eyeholes as in a mask , i dont actually think the arm length or walk are proof its not human , and if bigfoot exists then british columbia would seem more remote and likely than california but this is still pretty impressive and no one can reproduce it satisfactorily

Snuffy: Patterson was only an aspiring film maker. And he really had no financial means, so he had to resort to renting an old home movie camera to begin filming a documentary of his, and others, search for bigfoot. This is why he had a camera on that fateful day. He had used up most of the film just filming the trip itself for the documentary. He had no plans for a science fiction film about bigfoot.

Yeah I've recently done some heavy research into the "man in the suit" idea and it's a complete mess of bull shit. Just a couple of guys wanting publicity (Bob H. and Chambers). It's rediculous anybody would even consider them the true culprits. I just returned from a BFRO expedition and can say with fair certainty that we had one come quite close to us.

At the end it pretty much explanes how it could'nt have been a man in a suit because of the body shapes and ratios and how it was almost impossible for it to have even been a suit, atleast not in that time.

@Vortigern99 Well, I was wrong. The seeming muscular movement is not consistent with actual contraction and is more in line with the features of a padded, close-fitting suit. Material folds are indeed visible on the lower legs of the subject. The "flexing thumb" can be explained by gloves. The limb ratio is not at all inhuman. And muscle suits such as those used in the 1930s MGM Tarzan films and the Star Trek "Gorn" suit from 1966 make it clear that such suits were indeed available at the time.

The Patterson video is the only clear footage that stands up to intense scrutiny. I notice a new detail every time I view it. Watch the hip area at 1:00 you can see a well-defined, round muscle group at the hip in front of the butt, I think it's called the gluteus medius. It's clearly visible moving -- not possible with a costume. I know, I do creature/costume design. How would they know to put a moving gluteus medius muscle into a costume anyway!? Skeptics - explain how this can be faked!

I haven't been that close to them yet for any length of time. The up close encounters are there and gone. The ones at around 50 yds last up to half a minute, sometimes more before they vanish into the woods again. At night of course they come very close making noise on purpose, but I can't see them then.

Good point, but what about how effortlessly fast she is moving? And the thumb touching the hand - I think it would be very difficult for a struggling movie maker to construct a suit with animatronic arms with finger controls, and since the arms have a somewhat longer - than - human proportion they would have to be some kind of extended glove or something.

I would like to say that after interacting with this creature for over 40+ yrs. that the "pad" on their foot that you are talking about is just that, it is one solid,calloused continuous pad. Think about walking your entire life outside without shoes in the woods on sticks,stones,cold,snow,pine needles etc. It would/should become as a piece of leather,thus accounting for their strange looking tracks.Each one is different yet similiar~ a skin pad

Yep, that's how they tend to look from a distance. What you are seeing, of course, are the fatty cells that comprise the pad of the foot, they provide insulation and cushioning for all of that weight.

It was a sunny day, yes, and those who say mask haven't got eyes in their head, as the face clearly alters motions. It's alive, in other words. Also, the head turns slightly before the torso, which - combined with tallness/proportions of the whole body - only underlines it's next to impossible to be hoaxed. Not only anatomically not possible, let alone mastering that odd primate-like gait. How would cowboys know Bigfoot anatomy? This is not a (known) human being, it's a genuine Sasquatch.

I think this is interesting: In the first still note that the brow-line is protruding very heavily, obviously. Then when it looks at you, that ridge is completely in line with its sight. What I mean is that it was looking at the camera at the exact angle that it should be with its brow-line lined up when used for blocking out light or w/e for an actual living creature. I have seen this video hundreds of times since I was a kid. I have always wanted to believe it was real. It is the only one, photo or film, that has fit what I imagined one would look like. But now I see folding, buckling, where the leg meets the hip/butt, which is not natural flesh buckling. And there's something about the feet and the walk that is too human; human with big shoes-like.

"Experiment"/"Sunshine" is an instrumental song that was recorded shortly after The Piper at the Gates of Dawn was released. It has not officially been released but is available on various bootlegs. The title "Sunshine" is only used on bootlegs, and the piece itself never had a title, although it was likely recorded in September 1967. The bootlegged version is 90 seconds long, and the full length version is about 4 minutes long.

DAMN! I thought that was Floyd the second it started playing. Syd had such a cool style. Ashame we never got to hear what he may have become. Oh yeah,the Patterson footage is real.

how is it that people from all over the world... hundreds of years ago.. tell the same story and describe the same animal... how is that possible????? no television no phones no internet no morris code .. but yet they describe the same animal.. the only thing different is the name...someone please explain this to me..

if humans never find a cure for cancer ..does that mean a cure does not exist ??i think in the minds of millions that would be true..i dont even know where i'm going with this..other than how many times..brilliant scientist/thinkers of the day have been proven wrong a generation or two down the road....maybe as a people we donot posess the skills or mentality it takes to get over ourselfs and go about discovering wonderful new animals and truths.. there is definately a we know everything mindset

nicely said! The older I get the more I can see that there is probably 80% of the world's population that has a tremendous ability to deceive themselves. This type of personality is the reason that great discoveries are slow to surface, or, suppressed completely.

Wow, Kap., you hit the nail on the head and drove it right through the board with that one. And it seems like a percentage of the ones left over know how to use that, and the remainder are the ones screaming "can't you see what's going on?" but no one wants to listen. It applies nicely to this subject.

Exactly. Why was the world flat up until a few hundred years ago? I mean, we didn't even know about Gorillas until the freaking 1860's! And giant squids were thought to be a thing of fiction until they got footage of one a few years back.
Just because we haven't found something yet doesn't mean it doesn't exist!

No existance of proofs about something is the proof that that thing doesn't exist.
Gorillas are there, we see them all the time. We have nowadays the means to track any animal we think that exist. Apes always live in groups. They always leave tracks and proofs of their existance and don't just vanish like magic, with no real traces, no poos, no bones, no skeletons, nothing that we can grab to study.

Yes we see Gorillas now. 140 yrs ago we had no knowledge of their existence, only stories from tribes that spoke about them. Sound familiar?
Tracks have been found, strange noises heard by rangers & outdoors men (people who KNOW what sounds should come from the forest). Yes there are no identified remains but bodies decay quickly in the wilderness (a few weeks) & that's not taking into account scavengers disturbing those remains.
We are still, to this day, finding new species around the world.

Yes, but since the first time we saw gorillas, we were able to tack them. That's what happen with all new animals we find nowadays. We have much more technologies, knowladge, etc.
Bodies decay quickly. Bones not that quickly. If you know a bigfoot passed by a place, you can follow him, you don't need one year to go again to that place and follow the tracks.

Bones aren't around in the wild long enough to even begin decaying..wolves will pulverize bones to get to the marrow.

Bones are often carried away by scavangers piece by piece and scattered for miles. Running into a carcass of any animal is a rare thing in the wild. The technologies you speak of could indeed bring bigfoot out in the open, but they have limitations. Heavy tree cover or caves will hamper night vision or infra-red. The forest does not exactly light up like a Christmas tree when these are used.

Maybe yes, maybe not. We know bigfoot for more or less 100 years. I don't actually believe that in 100 years and so many spottings and tracks, we couldn't find it!
I don't think it is impossible to exist a big bipedal ape or whatever, it's very possible, if we made it, another specie may do it aswel. I just think it's weird we didn't discover conclusive proofs yet.

We are talking something more intelligent than most animals. Let us think for a moment how settelers came into their world. They were very hostile to Lumberjacks, and Goldminers had very disturbing encounters. They have most likely learned to stay clear of man when possible. For any rare or endagered species the secret to survival is to avoid man, and something as smart as Bigfoot will do this very effectivly.

It is indeed possible. Still I think we aren't facing (yet) a specie that near to humans. If they wouldn't want to be spotted by humans by any mean, they would avoid any contact, but many witnesses point that they have been attacked by them, or I think the bigfoot filmed would run away when spotted by patterson. or not?

Well, it didn't exactly stick around when it saw them. Maybe she didn't break out into a full run, but many animals will take that approach because running can provoke something to chase you. Most bigfoot encounters are chance to begin with and don't happen every day. Occasionally these creatures do venture out sometimes and are spotted. Or, as in the case of Patterson, we wander into their territory. They were on horses, and probably downwind from her. She got caught by suprise.

Yes, and there are fossils of a large bipedal primate very similar to bigfoot that lived in the time of homo sapien, and it is thought that homo sapien hunted it.

I assume you are speaking of the noises he heard while hunting with his friend. It kind of reminds me of the story 1q1 talks about, if you remember him from earlier posts. Roosvelt was an experienced outdoorsman and I don't think he would have been that frightened by something if it was something mudane. Hearing those Bigfoot screams must really put the fear of God in those that hear them in person and close by.

No...In his book "The Wilderness Hunter", he tells a story about a friend of his named Bauman, who claimed that something that left large human like tracks killed a fellow trapper in Idaho. Roosevelt believed the man's story....

As I recall, the two men never fired at the animal.Bauman went to check the trap-lines, which had triped, but the game was gone.This confused the two men. Bauman told of how they found large tracks, unlike bear tracks (the two were familiar with those). The next day, when Bauman returned from checking the lines, which again were empty, he found his companion dead of a broken neck, sporting two deep fang marks on his neck. Bauman never ventured into the woods again. True? Roosevelt thought so.

It's been awhile since I have read that story, but I recall that the one that was found dead had shot at the creature the day before, causing it to run off.

Ah, yes. Well, as I recall there are 2 or 3 stories that Roosvelt over the years had recounted or experienced. This one you're talking about has always intrigued me when I've heard about it, and I'm sure it did happen.
Bigfoot seem to show a lot of aggression towards either lumberjacks, gold miners, and in this case, trappers. I will research it and see if they shot at it, but I don't recall they did either. Seems like they heard it stalking them as well.

think about it ....the best evidence of a human hand in that film is PLANET OF THE APES costume creator...are you kidding me ?????we're the ones out on a limb??? unless iam missing something planet of apes designed the suit... oh and bob gimlin...i got news for the neysayers...if that is all you got keep quiet because you talk the more it looks real... again if i had the GOD GIVEN TALENT it would have taken to create that suit..i'm going to get credit or a large pyle of cash.... neither happened

look at the cheek bones in that facial close up....for crying out loud...and then she turns to face the camera...again i dont possibly see how that could be faked...if it is fake.. then hands down one of the greatest "getovers" ever pulled off..and the artist it took to make that..would have had to remain silent ..while a masterpiece goes unsigned..telling me patterson surely had to pay a ransom to squelch that from coming out...it just does not add up..i mean if i created that suit i would tell

Pause at :35. You can make out better detail about the foot right before it goes behind the log. Whatever it is, it is not a shoe. It has all the appropriate shape of a foot.

The feet also have toes that lift up right before the heel strike, as would a lving funtional foot...Philip Morris maintains that he recognized the suit as one of his gorilla suits, as soon as he saw the feet. Let me ask this then...what gorilla suit for rent or purchase ever had 14 inch feet with 5 toes in a row? Every gorilla suit I've ever seen has the splayed toes with that opposable big toe to the side. Has anyone ever seen a gorilla suit with feet like Pattys??

there are more arrows pointing at a real animal in this film than not..the breasts..the appearence..the stride..and that face is to much...if that is a man in a suit it is a huge man and an absolutely well funded brilliant artist making that suit not a dying rodeo hand and his broke buddy..i mean face it..to still being debated today and not proven fake..that is an incredibley gifted suit maker ..back in the 60's..come on
