Indeed, it's kinda sad that "real" cRPG's die out, not only because the players nowadays show little interest to anything that isn't an ACTION RPG, but also because of the lawsuit shit with Atari and hasbro. Perhaps we'll see a game worthy of the title "Baldur's Gate II successor!", though with the 4e I don't see much hope.

It took an indie RPG called Siege of Avalon to finally give me a game that includes STEALTH! Notice this trailer asks how are you going to play - by sword or magic - and doesn't mention stealth or diplomacy! It's all about action nowadays! :(

That's what it says in the trailer, but in the game stealth and diplomacy are fantastic!!! I much prefer using those than just fighting =) and you have lots of opportunities to!

@Eviera1405 Trust me, stealth and diplomacy in Siege of Avalon is 100% better than in NWN. Rogue type characters are very under represented in modern games, look at all the Dragon Age DLC - all provide heavy armour as the main prize and that is obviously for a hunky warrior!

I love this game. What shocked me is that it had a fairly long story line (with playing it once in a while it has taken me 3 years to get to the end but I can say that if you try 24/7 it'll easily take some time). At the same time the graphics were just beautiful, the sound system magical, and the voice acting and choices dam thrilling. Too bad this is the first game I have played from the series, but I can't complain for a free game can I? (a friend gave it to me).

i just got the game and made a monk but melee classes seem to kinda suck? i mean their boring,and rangers seem to be worthless,also, i didn't quite like the feat's and the skills thing,can't really get into this game =_=

Pure classes can be a little limited, Save for a pure warrior.

Now I haven't played enough to know what classes to mix and match with a monk. But if you google it, I'm sure you'll find something ;D It is a good game though.

Precisely. The graphics in the first game, weren't revolutionary, but the game system was epic, also the class system. I'm not sure about the second, because I haven't played it for some time, but as far as I remember it's changed way too much D:

i'd love to play the expansion for the first game um i think it was the pirates of the pirates of the sword coast. the mechanics for that expanstion for what i've heard it's pretty interesting. the docks district in it's glory of operation not plauged by as many thugs

shadows of undrentide was the other and i didn't like it all that much. i think it deviated too much from the story. but the pirates of the sword coast was a fan made expansion released as downloadable content on the bioware site but there's a fee just as infinite dungeons.

@XxAILASxX: same here. but neverwinter nights 2 wasn't about the graphics, it was about the massive enrichment of social interactions. but i was disappointed by the music, the main villain, the highly unstable pacing and the fact that your hero has embarassing roots as a swamp farmer with a chunk of metal in the guts..

also, including too many things into a game takes away from the imagination. the original neverwinter nights was so open that it inspired me greatly

Neverwinter nights 2 being labeled as "the return of the best rpg ever" would have been great if it were true. Neverwinter nights 1 pretty much let you make the most amazing online rpg experiance you could muster with their unique DM client combined with a fully modable toolset. NWN2, in my experiance, has been really frustrating in that regard. I found one good online server, but buggy old nwn2 wouldent connect to it, oh, and i coulden't use the toolset at all.

Now, fanboy all you want, but i had a serious problem: the toolset would not work at all. I filed a petition with atari, its over a year later and i've not heard from them.

The customer support for this game is quite possibly the worst support for any game ever made, where they just flat out ignore you when you ahve a problem.

fallout 3 will never be an rpg in my book, chrono trigger and fallout 3 in the same basket?.. i'm sorry but i just can't picture it.. even tho fallout is a cool game it can't be called a real rpg.. we all knew the day would come when rpgs just wount be rpgs anymore.. yes you can have guns and laser beams in rpg but not like fallout gameplay.. shame really that in few years we'll hardly see any new games like ct, cc and old school ff *shrugs*

Your bashing the game because its got an fps sim in it? dude, you can pretend to be someone else, and its deep, you can choose dialouge options and the world changes as you interact with it.

The way the game plays in combat shoulden't be your priority for determining if its an rpg or not. In my mind, CT isn't an RPG, you don't actually get to decide what the guy says, you just have to go along with the linear plot and have no input ;)

It was buggy as hell at release, i'm reinstalling it now a year or so later, hopefully it works.

I gave up on it at release because the toolset refused to load because it used some experemental dotnet framework

after this install, i'll tell you whats what :P

If you're only out for graphics then I really doubt that you will find this game appealing. It's 11 years old, with the "Infinity" engine, so guess how it look, if you care only about a good story then it's a must play.

In 2010, on IGN's Top 25 Modern PC Games, Baldur's Gate II was ranked 2nd, with Half-Life 2 being ranked first.

@PoisonWar Maybe, but I tried to play NWN 2 and I didn't like the gameplay at all. I understand it's a great game, just as Baldur's Gate saga, these games are masterpieces and classics.

But, nowadays DAO is on the top for me. Not only because of the music but the story, gameplay and all of the characters: Morrigan, Leliana, Sten, Zevran, Oghren, Alistair, the Mabari, Loghain and the other ones, all of them are simply epic and have charisma, the most important for me.

To be honest, the game is "okay", but the expansion wraps up the story more than satisfactory. If you're buying this, buy it with Mask of the Betrayer as well. Also check out NWVault on IGN for a ton of NWN1/2 related downloads. =] It's a fun game, I'm making my own mod atm.
