@MrHandro13 I personally ride 47 16, it gets me places and isn't too tough to do tricks on when im feeling like doing so, like wheelies and such. I sometimes use my 15 tooth cog on longer rides, but 47 16 is my daily pusher.
I met a fixie guy in the street."Road bikes are sooo passé!"
"It's triathlon bike...nice rims,"
red light....he did a trackstand...I clipped in and balanced too, we rode to the next light. He did a whip skid to stop...I jammed the rear brake and followed in suit. We balance again, green light, I haul ass of the line and beat him, next light. he slides to a stop, legs all tangled in the frame, one foot on the handle bar, "Pretty sweet huh?"
"yeah I guess...watch this" we come off the line.......
@MrHandro13 I took the time to figure out how to post it so it would read right, but it really happened. Bloomington IN on one of our ungodly hot august days. he had a trek district (the one with orange wheels) an I was out riding my '09 equinox 9. We talked trek bikes before the epic showdown...I've seen him since, he bought me a beer...really nice dude, Russell Randers or something like that.
Neck and neck, I go aero,he still keeps pace.I cant match the streamlined combo of form fitting skinny jeans combined with a wind tunnel tested Haynes V-neck. His little Ramen fed legs went to what seemed like 1200rpm...
."Watch what?" he sneered as he began to pull away
"This" I said and I reached my hand out and...click click click BANG! Chain up on the big ring and off I went.
The last thing I heard was "Not Cool Bro!"
I lifted my head and quizzically thought, " He just say Bro? How Ironic!"
@TheTrueThaiboi At 0:42 you can clearly see his chainring is small because if youve ever seen a 50 plus Zen youd know theyre huge, while his is obviously not, and why would a ( judging by the tt and dt distance) 57cm frame make any difference in the perception of his chainring? His frame isn't large at all.
@LxTxSURGE you ride 50 13?!?!?!?!?!?!? are you fucking serious?!! how do you even tolerate that, thats like 101 gear inches!!! hahaha, is that why you want to swtich? the 17 seems a little light man, i think that you should go for a 16, maybe a 15 if you still wanna leave some roadies in the dust.
@MrBentlarsen id do what massan does, and besides, thats never gonna happen, do you know anyone where that has happened to? i dont. and i ride an njs chain so thats literally never gonna happen.
@Peraltaskies69 hey man im running a 50x16 on my bike but i am not able to skid sitting on the seat. do think this ratio would be good to get to places and be able to do tricks? thx
@408Albert If you want to do tricks, go with a 46x17. You pedal a lil more and can do tricks easy because all my friends run that ratio and do them. I personally don't like doing tricks and 48x17 gives me that faster edge in pedaling because all i want to do is just ride my bike. You pedal less but it's a lil harder to push but hardly a difference.
That band, Aluminum Dream is from 1968 and played only once at some obscure art event. It would be shame if they made second song, couldn't like them then.
@mcmarga I'd run 48/16 on a smoother place without many hills, and a 48/18 on the other side of the hub (if you have a flip flop hub) for the areas with hills.
@Bibelbabys why would you want to save more energy? lower gear ratios dont build up as much muscle or cardio as higher gear ratios do. ive never seen a roadie who was actually going fast ride a small ratio, the ones who go 40km/h+ the whole ride always ride big, 85+ gear inch gear ratios.
and i know how to pedal fast, i rode 46 17 for two years, and now after 2 months of riding 54 17, based on my experiences and opinions, its way better, easier, and more manageable and convenient / efficient
dude the line at 2:26 is so rad, this guys my favorite fixed gear rider. rockin' a fuckin zipp tubular disc, fuckin' campy shamal 16, that like zombie-ass no handed wheely. this guy is the raddest of the rad in the fixed gear bike scene.
I wanna look like you guys look wen you guys ride because you guys are all the way like in the front do you have to put your seat all the way infront and does the hight of your seat post matter if it does can you tell me how high it needs to be,and also does it depend on the kind of stem you have, and what kind of ratio do you have if anyone can answer me thanks
@cuhh7 well if you raise your seat dramatically, which is what most of these guys do because they ride small frames, it gives you that aggressive forward look. It will also give you more torque for your wheelies =)
man the thing is when i ride luckily there are no cars when i cross a red but what do u when there are cars coming... riding brakeless going 30 - 40 mph
front really hard and push back with the leg in back really hard and at first, you might get a little skid for a split second or you might just get it. if you dont, keep trying.
any size of clips smaller than large makes this harder, and tighten your straps a little tighter than usual if they arent already super tight.
@shadow90723 its pretty hard to learn without toshis, fit alphas, or dual sprints, but its still possible. i learned on heavy duty zip ties.
but basically, youre not literally sitting on your seat, but standing up a little if you will. at first, try leaning forward a tiny bit, where your knees are right in the middle of the top tube, and before you attempt at skidding, push your knees together hard so that your thighs are being placed against the top tube, and then pull up with the leg in

@cxbra good choice ;) sadly i don't have a flip flop hub, so i stay away from hills.

pedal faster saves more energy and is very effective.
