  • LOL. Michael Jackson!

  • this is a really great movie!!!

  • This movie is about the struggle of a girl in the backdrop of the Iranian revolution and the problems that those historic events had on her life.

And this movie in the Academy Awards came second to Ratatouille????????

What a shame. I don't trust the Academy awards anymore....

  • wow...i need to see this...does anyone know where it is online?

  • This movie is amazing. So touching.

  • What a beautiful film. I think everyone should see it. :)

  • Anyone know if this movie is in Farsi? I hate the french language.

  • Just finished reading the book. Haven't seen the film yet, but the book was amazing. It's humbling to read what some children experience at the hands of adults. And it's not a pop against Islam per se (this just happens to be the context of Satrapi's upbringing - she's only presenting her experiences) - it's an expose of what happens when ideologies and desire for power consume people - be it religious or political.

  • This is youtube not Democracy People

  • how can i watch this movie if i cant read well

  • Religion can never reform mankind because religion is slavery

  • @MyWorldMyLife2011 I really don't think you should say offensive stuff like that. Most of the world houses religious people and some atheists, but there isn't a reason for you to be intolerant.

  • Its a movie about SHIA MUSLIMs

  • to all these terrorists and bombers who say that SHIASM is not islam

GO STICK UR HEADS UP A CAMEL'S BUTT

    SHIASM = TRUE ISLAM

and SCREW this film , its against ISLAM which is God's judgment .

  • @q8myid lol, u mad Mohammed?

  • @JacksonCountryKid

i guess its non of your business .. ur just barking about something that u;ve got nothing to do with

    shoo away .. !

  • @q8myid Yea, u mad.

  • and dont even get me started on u fools that said this isnt islam its shia! are you completely blind?!? this is proof of you all being controlled by our governments, feeds us crap that everyone is different, divide us then control us. Islam is islam love it for what it is and dont hate!!

ps. This film is great and truly shows the events that took place in iran at that time of the revolution up until today.

  • You guy are all complete idiots that complain that this is against islam, its not against islam at all. It shows what the government has done to a wonderful country in the name of islam. NOT ISLAM ITSELF. thats the whole point of the people of iran having a problem with their government...they have not only destroyed the image of islam but also destroyed a great country. They have used islam to control people, and that does NOT mean that islam is controlling.

  • ayy this is always the issue with films that deal with some sort of political or ethnic topic. this is Marjane Satrapi's own story. it's this burden of representation. she's speaking FROM the community, not FOR them. everyone gets so pissed saying "oh you see what they're saying about Muslims!" that's not Islam!" "this movie arrghhh!!" she's just telling about her experience, through her eyes. if that is unsatisfactory for you, make your own fucking movie about your life and get it produced.

  • As Muslim i dont like this movie because it is against Islam and the first reason for me is against alah because alah Can not be in human form.

  • The comic are really great!

  • that is not islam that is shia most irani people r shia

  • F*ck this moviee!!

    it's against the ISlam

    It's Discrimination:S:S

  • @MissW0lfgirl, there is nothing wrong with this movie. Pls don't come to America because U will see real people have sex on TV.

  • @MissW0lfgirl It's not fucking islam you absolute idiot!

    It's Shia!

  • @SimsRealityFan lol, u mad Mohammed?

  • Is this islam? one day we will fuck islam out of iran and free our country! FREE IRAN

  • @manc34a this is shia a different type of Islam

  • All you said does not mean the idea of the movie is wrong or biased. The Iranian Revolution has been a big deception. All like the 1917 Russian one inspite of the difference in appearances, the result was one: A totalitarian regime.

  • boring and infidels at it again dem always tryina insult a religeon fail! ban this insulting pile!!!

  • It is a coincidence that i came across this movie now. I just finished writing a major PG Essay on Liberal Internationalism. I am a Muslim and it is fascinating how western political thought, which is influenced by muslim philosophers like Ibn Khalidun and Averroes does not acknowledge their role at all. Instead try to promote a single world order described by Kant and misused by the gang of Liberal thugs who want the whole world to be like western public - ENSLAVED

  • @shedkad I'm surprised how decadent of some Muslims seem to be.

You get enraged by a simple animated movie? Is that your worst problem?

You don't like that movie, don't watch it. If nobody takes notce it will disapear because new movies are produced every day. In fact, I only heared about this movie because some enraged protesters stormed the house of the boss of a private tv station in Tunis threatening his wife and kids.

Racist fundamentalist Christians will use this as propaganda.

  • @DeletedDelusion "Racist fundamentalist Christians will use this as propaganda."

    Islam isn't a race. Sorry.

  • @fishteeth2

i don't think he was saying that either

  • @fishteeth2 You seriously think that they care to make the destiction?

Do you remember who was the most outspoken against the ground zero mosque?

Who called bama a muslm, intended as an insult?

Do you know what political parties in Europe try to ban mosques, minarettes and vailed women?

Racists usually have their own special kind of "facts", "truthyness" and "lolgic".

  • @DeletedDelusion You're very confused. You said yourself that it's the actions of Muslims that cause people to have negative views of Islam. And opposition to the Ground Zero mosque was not based on bigotry. We opposed it because it was a shocking display of arrogance and insensitivity. You need to improve your debating techniques. The days of simply shouting "Racism!" in order to silence your opponents are over.

  • @fishteeth2

Some psycologsts think that we tend to be xenophobic on a subconscious level and that we often are unaware of it.

I did not claim that everybody criticiseing the behaviour of some Muslims is a racist, I said that some racists might use certain behaviour of some Muslims as propaganda, claiming that they are all the same.

  • @DeletedDelusion "I said that some racists might use certain behaviour of some Muslims as propaganda, claiming that they are all the same."

No, you said, "Racist fundamentalist Christians will use this as propaganda." Your implication is that criticizing Islam is racist, and "fundamentalist" Christians are also racist. Both assertions are incorrect.

  • @fishteeth2

Hume argued that it is impossible to justify inductive reasoning, eventhough we sometimes have to rely on it.

If all Mormons think that the Dalai Lama is wrong, does that imply that everybody who thinks the Dalai Lama is wrong is a Mormon?

There are valid reasons to criticise a religion and there are bad ones. I don't want to be associated with people who have bad reasons, that is why I ended my post the way I did.

  • @DeletedDelusion No, you ended your post the way you did because you think all "fundamentalist" Christians are racists. Just admit it. Stop with the self-serving spin.

  • @DeletedDelusion Something else for you to contemplate. Lily-white Minnesota took in over 25,000 Somali immigrants, most of whom are black. Last week one of these immigrants was convicted of supporting terrorism. Local Somali leaders have demanded that she be freed because she's Muslim. Somalis also demonstrated outside the courtroom. Not one Somali has said anything about her guilt. They simply want her freed because she's Muslim. This is the gratitude Somalis show to Minnesota.

  • @fishteeth2 I tried to google this case but only found the case of 45-year-old Mahamud Said Omar, a Somali man who was extradited from the Netherlands, you were talking about a woman though.

But thank you for proveing my point anyway, in yur comment the words Muslim and Somali seems to be interchangable. Apparently not only westeners don't make a clear destiction, Somalis/Muslims do too if they think it suits their case.

  • west can go to bed with any oppresive regim if they give them permission to suck the wealth(oil for Iran) of that nation. If they disagree what form of gov doesn't matter. Iran is the only country in ME which has the least foreign influence(sovereign in deed!!)

  • i hate bitches who disrespect women, actually i hate men too cause they mis-use women (and iam male for people who dont know) god didnt make men first. he (or she (or maybe both)) created the first men and women at the same time, mis-using women in the middle east is not cause of islam. it is cause of the most men are that kinda fucking assholes to do that. and who can know this better then the male hisself. and for people who wanna know it, IAM A MUSLIM. THUMBS UP PLEASE CAUSE THIS IS THE TRUTH

  • @burkillman DUMBASS MUSLIM,,,,QURAN EMBRYOLOGY DOESN'T EVEN MENTION THE EGG, AND SAYS THE EARTH IS FLAT.

  • @MUHAMMADFUCKEDAKID1 Hahaa, wow. Do you just decide to interject your thoughts for the hell of it? You clearly haven't read of looked into any of their scriptures. Their book doesn't say either of what you said it does/does not mention. Stop making yourself looks stupid mate.

  • You people that think bad about islam are all bitches, what people dont know is that the word islam means peace. And in iraq and that kinda things with women is not cause islam that kinda man are just fucking bitches. And why islam is come here is not cause god wanted a new religion. The old holy books (before the holy koran) where destroyed or lost by the people who didnt believe in god. And islam is the last religion. Women are the same as men no difference. Thumbs-up pleace

  • I seriously dont get why most of the men in Iran "Think" thier friken gods of the land, it just makes me sick how they treat women there. Just because god created eve second doesnt mean woman are anywhere lower then men, in fact....the reason god made adam sleep while creating eve is so that adam could "not" decide how a woman should look. So how dare these basterds go against god's creation. Women should be free to un-cover and choose how to live since they only got one life, so why whaste it?

  • lol how could "Punk is not dead" relate to Moonwalk?? I mean srsly!!

  • Great movie, amazingly unique artwork, pitch perfect voice acting; particularly by Sean Penn. He's done a ton of great stuff since Fast Times at Ridgemont High, which, coincidentally enough also stars Nicolas Cage who I can't wait to see in his new movie Trespass.

  • Where Islam spreads, freedom dies......easy

  • @PolishWoodpecker woah, careful what you say bud, people can get offended .you would too if someone said that about ur religion. Just cuz some muslims are bad doesn't mean that they are all against freedom. It's a free country so they can whatever they want and we have no right to say anything.

  • @alinapollyful .Your's definition ,,Free Country'' is completely different than definition the same word in Europe. I am Atheist, coming from Christian country. I know what it is religious profound, doesn't matter what kind of religion Islam,Catholic, Judaism - all together and each other are full of blood, heat, violence, etc. but islam is most stupid ad most dangerous for our life style (in civilization countries) Do you remember what said AL-Ghurabaa after London's Metro suicide attacks?

  • @PolishWoodpecker Ok so first off what on earth do u mean "different definition" are u saying that muslims in europe dont have a free will ?!. You have no right to do around critizing something just because you think thats something should be.have you ever really got to know a muslim? And not the extreme ones, there are extreme Cristians too, they are the sweetest people. muslim people are not against freedom, there might be some extreme ones but thats because the are in developing countries.

  • @alinapollyful Nice ,,see'' you again!1st.You said... ,,-are u saying that muslims in europe dont have a free will?..- In Europe ,,YOU'' got the same rights like other citizens (we have civilized rules) ,but you are abuse the low. In Iran,Pakistan and other muslim country -NO -read careful Koran, dear.

  • @PolishWoodpecker sad, but true, there really isnt any freedom in Islam when you just got 1 life being whasted on hate and slavery.

  • @Artprincess247 who told you that , in islam we have more freedom than anyother religion , and Islam was the Fisrt and I say the first movement to Forbid Slavery , People don't understand they just Talk !!!

  • @pockerboy2009 although slaves in islam has more rights in any civilization before , ( better than Christianity or Judaism ) like the right to buy it's freedom by working to it's owner ( the amount of money needed is appointed by a judge ) , slaves are not forbidden , and each muslim who deny that is a liar , the same way as any christian or Jews . The simple explanation is things evolved , it's not the medieval times anymore , Omar ( the third Caliph) demonstrated that many times .

  • It's funny, it's honest, it's deep, it's...... just good lol

  • I'm reading the graphic novel right now for a Literary Critical Practices class at Indiana University. It's absolutely spellbinding. Beautiful to behold and emotionally rich.

  • I remember watching this movie when I went to visit my family in Central America. I thought it was a really great movie. It gave me a new perspective on certain things. Like I almost know what it is to be in their shoes.

  • Am I the only one who thinks of system of a down when I watch this?

  • Oh god, i have chills all over my arms. i need to see this movie.

  • I love the Michael Jackson Thriller badge! ahahah xD ( no really... i truly love him. R.I.P, my angel)

  • fabulous showing of historical events, but when I saw it I thought that it gives me the idea that islam = restrictions, just restrictions no more, and this not true. Most of these hard restrictions may happened in Iran.but this didn't mean that these restrictions belong to islam!but belong to tradition and culture of the country itself.Indeed there're some restrictions in islam but they are needed for human sake.for more better life, like laws sometimes are not liked but they are necessary.

  • @adamsayash Really? Stoning women is necessary? Sorry, but please don't try to justify that part of the world.

  • I have every comic (tragic)book from Marjane Satrapi! How much harder is it to be same kind of teenager in Teheran that it was in my country at my days. To listen some Iron Maiden or stuff like that.

  • I'm reading the book at the moment, it's amazing I can't put it down.

  • i just finished reading the book right now and i loved it!

im surprised theres also a movie! i wanna watch it to, but im pretty sure ill still prefer the book ehe

  • I wish this was in English!! UGH!!

  • @hahaforsure The move has English and French on DVD.

  • @survive1999 thanks :)

  • @survive1999

i tried watching it in english and it doesn't have the same effect for me. it actually takes away from the movie.

  • I loved this movie, I saw it at the USC French Film Festival and it made me want to cry, laugh, and watch it again.

  • Oh and don't forget " Jicheal Mackson " LMAO !! XD

  • y'all should read the books

  • Never thought I would see punk and pop living on one person.

  • A beatiful film, it reminds me of my own life! :'(

  • 0:57 The veil stands for freedom? That's like saying Alcatraz stands for freedom.

  • great film saw it in the class. does anyone believe the 9/11 was an inside job? I do and Barack Obama wants to bring New World Order

  • I really love this animated movie ♥

  • Michael Jackson??!

  • Truly a beautiful film. So much heart combined with history. Agreed, robbed of an Oscar!

  • aaa... where is septic flesh?

  • so much better than the book, my teacher made us use 1 month to read it and i cud have used 2 hrs to watch it all

  • great film... i hope the iranian people can manage to set up a democratic and free system some day

  • HELP US FREE IRAN

AND lET THERE BE DEMOCRACY... JAVID SHAH

  • This movie changed my view of the culture in the middle-east and made me more interested in the religious revolution and the Iran–Iraq War. I'm tired of us western people not trying to understand the real situation. It's a great movie, mixed with both personal experiences as well with cruel reality and humor.

  • @Rindutti It's got nothing to do with an "Occidental point of view", it's a universalist point of view, a secularist one, and a humanist one. Those women in Iran were FORCED to put the freaking veil on their head, and a lof of them who were muslims didn't want to wear it. The veil is not a symbol if Islam, it's a symbol of biggotry the same way the veil in christianism is only worn by traditionnalists.

  • Comment removed

  • @DanaWhite0 And I NEVER said that the veil was a symbol of Islam, so I really don't understand why you are referring to it.

  • @Rindutti check out The Apple. Iranian movie circa 1998

  • @Rindutti

Great comment. The American people have been blinded with Zionist propaganda to stir hatred against the Middle East & its people. We have seen that with the Israeli terrorism building their nation upon the blood & bones of those they murder & rape.

  • @TheTortugaTanker

Yeah, it wasn't propaganda it was a trio of 747's flying into buildings that set the USA to really not liking the middle east.

  • @Rindutti yet, I was surprised how many people, that saw the move because I recomended it, disliked it. i thought it was really, really good.

  • Man could you guys not use another title for this movie?

Everytime i search for the great city of Persepolis i find this movie -__-

This movie has a point, but man its damn annoying.

  • Well, When You See The Trailer You Think This Is A Happy Movie But When You See In Real It's A Sad Movie.

  • the pix look just like the booK!!!!

  • I just read the book..

    speechless :c

  • this represents a movie??? huh wudnt say so

  • its coming from netflix tomorrow! yay.

  • I have the original book, and it's brilliant. A true masterpiece of modern literature. Proves that even a graphic novel can have a great impact upon the public, and this one certainly does, unmasking a regime of hatred and oppression that still goes on today. Marjane Satrapi is a true role model for today's kids.

  • This movie is built around a very powerful message, and if you haven't the slightest clue of International relations and the kind of oppression people must deal with around the world then don't bother.

  • @motorboat76 I completely disagree. If you haven't the slightest clue of international relations, this movie is a powerful place to start exposing and educating yourself about the beauty and struggles of another culture and people.

  • The current Iranian regime does not represent the Islam, nor does it represent the Islamic world. Denying people's rights to express themselves does not line up with Islamic thought. As a devout Muslim, I would say that the current Iranian regime has held Islam hostage for far too long, ruining its image, and killing people in the process. I've had enough of corrupt systems hold Islam hostage, and abusing it in the name of power.

  • Pésima película

  • This is a masterpiece! I love'd it so match!

  • propaganda propaganda propaganda propaganda...oh look how bad these muslims are oh my god theyre so evil..we need to "free" the middle east, but while we're at it lets kill 1.2 million innocent people steal their oil set up puppet regimes and impoverish them even more...yea yea bla bla bla...ma vaffanculo francese di merda! Real criminal are in the white house and the knesset not iran and the islamic world

  • @nidaroon858 erm, I saw more of a fight for one woman's freedom from her restricting culture than anything else. Why do you need to turn this beautiful piece of art into an act of one of the world's destructive wars?

  • @nidaroon858 what is wrong with you? Seriously, man? what the fuck? this is about the point of view form someone who has experienced these things first-hand, you bastard. How dare you call it propaganda, how DARE you.

  • @lordxeras Pay no attention to trolls.

  • @nidaroon858

    You...called Persepolis "propaganda?!"

    GO TO HELL AND ROT.

  • @nidaroon858 every rational person is against the oppression of freedom in the middle east, just ilke every non sociopath and rational person is against the invasion of the middle east by the US and Israel... no one here is pro-war but do aknowledge that middle east suffers under fascism

  • Here the full film in German!

    /watch?v=j6Ua6AVcPVk

  • This book is a masterpiece. It is a touching and riveting look at the Islamic Revolution in Iran and how people were affected by it. I haven't seen the movie in its entirety, but I certainly want to.

  • It's in French because A) it's a French film, B) the graphic novel was originally written in French, and C) Marjane spoke a lot of French in her childhood.

  • @CrystalRaye added to the fact that it was co-directed by a french man

  • And I'm glad I know basic French.

  • @platypus8008 yet another person who called me a name because i was uninformed.. i read the comic and it was in english.. and later i see this trailer and its in french.. i was confused and uniformed jesus.. relax

  • I love this movie. ♥

  • why are they speaking french? im confused

  • @cheshirecatsaira it's a french film fool

  • @Frankenstrat247 dont call me a fool because i was uninformed ....jesus relax

  • @cheshirecatsaira I was echoing mr T, no harm intended :P

  • i love this film so much <3

  • I thought this was a good movie but in my opinion, since I saw two "indie" animation films in the same year, Paprika's better. I think Paprika was way more immersing. Persepolis was good because of how accurately it portrayed history and the meanings behind it, but I thought that at the end, it got a little weak. Nevertheless, I like both movies.

  • We read the first book in English class, and are now watching the second half of it in the movie in English!

  • Some of the scenes were really funny.

"Grandma, why are your breasts firm?"

  • song in the back ground?

  • I had to read the book for a social studies class recently and I thought it was AWESOME. Now I want to see the movie soo bad!! :)

  • ..brilliant animation movie.

  • LOL. Michael Jackson.

  • Satrap in Persian means Governor or ruler... Marjane Satrapi

  • I just finished reading the book in school. it was so good~

I want to see the movie really bad now ^^

  • Watched it today in school, I almost cried.

  • watching this in class!!

  • @juan5557903 the graphic novels are better

  • I read the book like a month ago and I already forgot most of it! lol!

  • Fabulous movie!!!

  • I've got the graphic novel, and it is incredible.

  • Magnifique!!! Je recommande ce film.

  • My class watched this movie in English class. And i love this movie. I especially love the grandma.

  • This makes me really want to read the graphic novels; I've seen one at my library but I haven't picked it up yet.

  • I am insane about the books! I would love to see the film.

  • Marg bar dictator

  • READ THE BOOK.

persepolis is a HUGE landmark for the comic medium, and shows what can be done in the comic book world without super hero cliches and fan service.

    best comic ever.

  • @miztahfrawg 2nd best comic ever, after the Watchmen.

  • This move looks awesome. I'm going to search for it on netflix! :D

  • I read the first graphic novel and adored it; I am hoping to watch this film soon.

  • Dear me! Alexander the Great has always been reproached for torching the Persian capital but after seeing this movie I think the burning of Persepolis was indeed one of his greatest deeds! Life in modern Persia after the account of this movie appears to be some mixture of 1984 combined with the Camel Merchant Cult, Bourgeois boredom and the juvenile madness. Shakespeare said that Hamlet was send to England because there are the men mad as he, so why did she choose France for her exile?

  • @FireEyedMaidOfWar Dear Sir/Ma'am! I cannot agree with you more

  • @kaushiksays: Your reason, mighty lord?

  • Oy, live in poverty, police harassment and SAVAK torture under the shah

    OR

having your rights completely vaporized by religious Khomeinians loonies + warring with the Irak?

  • Hahahaha after reading all the comments i absolutely have to see this movie.

I admit i don't like Arabs or Muslims but i love Iranians!

  • @pandorachild what exactly is it that you don't like about arabs and muslims? do you even personally know any to be able to say that?

  • @wtfusername Yes I know Muslims, and they are the biggest hypocrite's out there.

To be honest I hate almost all religions for the same reason, but i don't see many terrorist from Cristian or Catholics etc....

  • JAVID SHAH!

    MARG BAR KHAMENEI!
