These guys will be together for a long time...if they can remember not to take each other for granted. It's good to see Journey come back so damned strong.
Eclipse is a damn amazing album....sure it doesn't have your typical rock ballad but it has the rock elements that make this an amazing album...its like journey on steroids....the voice is powerful and has so much range and damn the band and harmonies sound like a wall....i love it! The lyrics have a lot of that feel I hope that the album goes platinum. I swear this album is not only a great album for today but if this album came out in the 80's it would have kicked so much ass as well.
iive listened twice now and it just gets better..kudos to Journey...expansion or growth can be painful but you guys adjusted well and succeeded!! thumbs up
Wow, this just isn't an impressive album, in fact I think it's even worse than Revelation. Thus far we have had one good Journey song with Arnel on vocals, that would be 'After All These Years'. Sadly, I don't think that is Arnel's fault, the man has a good voice, but I think he would fare better in another format/band where he isn't trying to fill the shoes of an icon. Journey with Perry isn't worth the effort and Arnel would be better off elsewhere. What an unfortunate combination for everyone
Pardon, I meant Journey without Perry isn't worth the effort. To be fair, I'm not overly interested in seeing a Journey without Valory (although Jackson did a great job on Raised on Radio, Valory really needs to be the one on bass), Smith, Cain, or Schon in the lineup. Just my two cents. I've got nothing against the other guys, but if I am going to watch a Monet being painted I want Monet to be the one doing it.

Ah the internet, giving voice to uninformed opinion. I'm actually amazed that some people truly think this is a good album. If Perry were on vocals I would still be here saying that it reeks, that he isn't just makes it that much worse since it's just a bad album from a pointless cover band.
Journey is indeed done, whats pathetic is that so many, including Neil Schon and supposed 'fans' like yourself, can't just let it go. Move on, do something else. Journey was great, this isn't.
The world is worse off for people who can't let go. If this isn't a shameless ploy to ride the coat tails of a group that realistically doesn't exist anymore why not call it something else? Journey is through, I'm okay with that because when they were here they made great music. Drop the Journey name and this album wouldn't be given 15 minutes of press. It's like a mid life crisis where too many people are trying to recapture days gone by. They're gone, deal with it.

Popularity and good taste don't always walk hand in hand. I'll take the mediocre success of every post Perry album to mean that most of the fans in the audience are trying to hold too tightly to days gone by rather than being swayed by any new grooves. That said, I would have been a rather young concert goer even during the 1986 ROR Tour. Sentimentality may be your motivation, but mine is good, authentic music. This album is, unfortunately, neither; It's contrived and poorly so.
As I figured, when the focus moves past rhetoric and on to the actual music you've suddenly found yourself without anything of substance to say or offer....just like this album. Like I said, these guys would all be far better off to do something original rather than subject themselves to being some odd cover band of themselves. Schon, Valory, Pinetta and crew are all too good to lower themselves to that level, with Schon being one of the great guitarists of our time, but here we are.
Good point, let me cover the most recent portion of 'Journey's' history, 1998-Present. Multiple albums, three lead singers, and a whopping one decent song that made it to number 9 on the Billboad charts. Like I said, if they weren't called Journey most people wouldn't even know they existed.
Would that be the small but surprisingly loyal group of fans of this redux 'Bizarro Journey', all of whom appear fully willing to accept a cheap imitation wholesale? You know what, I know a car you would love, it's called the BYD F8 and it looks a lot like a Mercedes CLK. Yeah, it is missing virtually all of the things that actually make a Mercedes a great car, but for a lot of folks the illusion of being a Mercedes is good enough. Kinda like this new Journey, and this new album.
Arnel not only emerged from SP's shadow in this album, but he leapt out of it! His powerful, soulful vocals shine through and brighter as ever. Can't wait to see them perform some of my favorite songs live in concert come September. Journey rocks!!!!
Eclipse...i love it. ive been a journey fan for many years, more when steve perry was around but much, much more now since they brought in arnel. if you havent checked out his youtube vids before he became a member of journey, you should. he blew me away with his uncanny ability to sing a variety of rock songs made famous by legendary rock bands/singers. including journey. love or hate him, you cant deny the talent behind this man. listening to the new journey and arnel is ecstasy. hahaha..

I've noticed, Arnel has improved vocal wise . He sings more powerful than S. A. and moves on stage like a real rocker, that'' s my opinion,he also got charisma on stage.

The great thing about this band is it has truely been a Journey. The Journey before Steve Perry, (Gregg Rollie era) , The amazing Steve Perry era, and the current era. All great in there own way. Arnel is doing a great job in my opinion. He has put new life in the band and the audiences feels it as well. He's living the dream. Singing in front of 1000's of adoring fans nightly and selling tons of albums, doing what he loves. He seems to be a class act as well. Unlike many on here. Go Arnel!
This is a fantastic album,It ROCKS!!!! I went for a ride along a lake road on a beautiful sunny day with the windows down and played Eclipse full out and It sounded GREAT,it was a wonderful expierence that I didn't want to end!! Eclipse is powerful and dynamic ,the guitar,vocal, keyboard,bass and drum tracks are amazing and mixed perfectly.Thank you Journey for being very creative musicians!!
@Thepragmatic123 I somewhat agree with that, his new material sounds pretty good. Saw him live a few times lately and he's done well. Had Schon given time off between tours Augeri's vocals wouldn't have gone out. This is why Pineda took all of last year off, it wasn't to write the new album it was because his vocals are already dropping in live performances.
I definitely like this album more than Revelation! This is such a good record, shows they're old as fuck but they're still rocking like they were with Perry, but damn I miss them with Perry.
I bought the album and IT ROCKS!!! This is how Journey must sound from now on. This is the PRESENT TENSE JOURNEY sound and i love it! I get this feeling of extra natural high everytime i listen to it. No track skipped in my Eclipse playlist, its on infinite repeat mode, the headset is practically glued to my ears with volume on max and wearing an huge grin for havin' a GREAT ROCKIN' TIME!

Eclipse is a work of pure genius! It's like Journey on steroids! There's no track i skip (and i'm a picky customer!) because each song is AMAZING! I do have good ears for good music, appreciate good lyrics and i practically grew up listening to Journey. IMO Eclipse has to be the most addictive album of Journey ever!

DAMN! I knew "Eclipse" would be a good album, but not THIS good! There's more killer on "Eclipse" than filler. I'm glad I bought it. It now is a proud addition to my CD collection at home.
They are awesome no matter what the lineup is, of course Steve Perry skyrocketed them to super stardom but there is albums before Steve With Gregg Rolie on lead vocals which is phenomenal but keep in mind they are "STILL" around to share music with us "ALL" ROCK ON !!!!!!!!!!
It's crazy how much their sound has changed with this album. I'm comparing it to some songs from 70s/80s era in my head, and Journey's sound is so different for this decade... a good improvement from Revelation, at least.

awesome this band is esp today...they're even more phenomenal...breaking barriers...the Journey saga is epic and this band is composed of exceptionally versatile talents that inspires the young and old alike...Journey is a great story, especially Arnel's story pre journey, who's voz y carisma and performance in live acts is a benchmark today...

@dashdonivan We all know that the dvd is not including in the disc count. Its double platinum now, which means it sold more than 2 million copies. Granting what you said is true, 2 million divided by 2 is a million and still counting. Not bad for an album that was just released in 2008. :)

According to youtube stats on hardly anyone under 35 is actually watching them. So right there they just lost a chance to continue into the future.

@newERNIEifyJourney Augeri is above and beyond a better writer, singer and showman then Arnel is. Listen to preJourney Augeri, he wrote some amazing material, can't say that for Arnel. Augeri also carried the band through the hardest period in Journey's career, life after Perry. Soto and Arnel have a free ride now, because everyone says oh these guys were better then Augeri. They aren't comparing them to Perry at all. People need to look at the big picture, but too many fan boys kill the fun.
@DashDonivan he he a better writer but never tick off the box, in making albums you need somebody who believe in you. if you don't, it will turn to nothing. The label did not believe Augeri could make it. they were right. Augeri was Perry whimpy. He was so brave though to take the job after Perry.

@DashDonivan Interesting review given that only two songs have been released and only small portions of the others have been put out there. Tell me where to go to hear what you have heard so I can make my own opinion. In regards to the singer's English speaking ability, we are not buying the album to hear him give a speech. We want to hear him sing. He does a pretty damn good job of it. And, he speaks better English than many around this country as is.

That's the impression I've gained from the snippets I've heard. The reviews I've come across suggest this album is very much Neal's album with the guitar prominent throughout. I'm looking forward to hearing the whole thing.
After the pile of canine droppings that was 'Revelations' I didn't have a lot of hope for this release. But Neal sounds more energised than he has done for years and the songs, from what I've hears of them, don't seem as contrived as the those on the previous release, which did sound like a tribute act to be honest.
@FullMontyUK well though its not pop vocal record compared to what they'd done previously. the album sounds progressive rock, not cheesy, grown-ups and some good hooks. the album is also available in vinyl so theres some really serious real music stuff in depth in this album. the pop ears maybe need more serious digging though. i think, the album potentialy can cross over to Gaga fans or maybe justin b. I see a lead singer who doesn't fit the band, a drummer who is afraid of his own vocal talent, a guitarist who runs vocalists into the ground, piano player who has an amazing writing talent but doesn't use it properly and a bass player who looks dead. Perfect frontiers release, not to be taken seriously at all. No catchy material, all talk no show. That equals the greatest Journey Tribute Band on earth. Change the name, the Journey ended years ago!

Eclipse is a damn amazing album....sure it doesn't have your typical rock ballad but it has the rock elements that make this an amazing album...its like journey on steroids....the voice is powerful and has so much range and damn the band and harmonies sound like a wall....i love it! The lyrics have a lot of that feel I hope that the album goes platinum. I swear this album is not only a great album for today but if this album came out in the 80's it would have kicked so much ass as well.

Wow, this just isn't an impressive album, in fact I think it's even worse than Revelation. Thus far we have had one good Journey song with Arnel on vocals, that would be 'After All These Years'. Sadly, I don't think that is Arnel's fault, the man has a good voice, but I think he would fare better in another format/band where he isn't trying to fill the shoes of an icon. Journey with Perry isn't worth the effort and Arnel would be better off elsewhere. What an unfortunate combination for everyone

To be fair, I'm not overly interested in seeing a Journey without Valory (although Jackson did a great job on Raised on Radio, Valory really needs to be the one on bass), Smith, Cain, or Schon in the lineup. Popularity and good taste don't always walk hand in hand. I'll take the mediocre success of every post Perry album to mean that most of the fans in the audience are trying to hold too tightly to days gone by rather than being swayed by any new grooves. That said, I would have been a rather young concert goer even during the 1986 ROR Tour. Sentimentality may be your motivation, but mine is good, authentic music. This album is, unfortunately, neither; It's contrived and poorly so.

Eclipse...i love it. ive been a journey fan for many years, more when steve perry was around but much, much more now since they brought in arnel. if you havent checked out his youtube vids before he became a member of journey, you should. he blew me away with his uncanny ability to sing a variety of rock songs made famous by legendary rock bands/singers. including journey. love or hate him, you cant deny the talent behind this man. listening to the new journey and arnel is ecstasy. hahaha..

The great thing about this band is it has truely been a Journey. The Journey before Steve Perry, (Gregg Rollie era) , The amazing Steve Perry era, and the current era. All great in there own way. Arnel is doing a great job in my opinion. He has put new life in the band and the audiences feels it as well. He's living the dream. Singing in front of 1000's of adoring fans nightly and selling tons of albums, doing what he loves. He seems to be a class act as well. Unlike many on here. Go Arnel!

This is a fantastic album,It ROCKS!!!! I went for a ride along a lake road on a beautiful sunny day with the windows down and played Eclipse full out and It sounded GREAT,it was a wonderful expierence that I didn't want to end!! Eclipse is powerful and dynamic ,the guitar,vocal, keyboard,bass and drum tracks are amazing and mixed perfectly.Thank you Journey for being very creative musicians!!

Had Schon given time off between tours Augeri's vocals wouldn't have gone out. This is why Pineda took all of last year off, it wasn't to write the new album it was because his vocals are already dropping in live performances.

I bought the album and IT ROCKS!!! This is how Journey must sound from now on. This is the PRESENT TENSE JOURNEY sound and i love it! I get this feeling of extra natural high everytime i listen to it. No track skipped in my Eclipse playlist, its on infinite repeat mode, the headset is practically glued to my ears with volume on max and wearing an huge grin for havin' a GREAT ROCKIN' TIME!

Eclipse is a work of pure genius! It's like Journey on steroids! There's no track i skip (and i'm a picky customer!) because each song is AMAZING! I do have good ears for good music, appreciate good lyrics and i practically grew up listening to Journey. IMO Eclipse has to be the most addictive album of Journey ever!

They had it all but go through singers nowadays like gym socks. You can keep dissing Steve Perry but the truth of the matter he made Journey the superstars they are supposedly are today. The street lights people were buying it. His voice is/was not rock. Its the biggest deception in rock history.

@ all of you non believers...I´m not a big Journey fan, but when i listen to this I´m a believer. Why stop, when ou can continue with a new singer like this? I wish the band alle the best and should they be near me in Denmark for a gig, I´m sure to go. I think they have a great time and that´s what it´s all about. Give them a break and a shot. The singer has some bog shoes to fill and i think he does a great job so far. i say, take it to the road and bring the fans some Journey music ones again

@dashdonivan We all know that the dvd is not including in the disc count. Its double platinum now, which means it sold more than 2 million copies. Granting what you said is true, 2 million divided by 2 is a million and still counting. Not bad for an album that was just released in 2008. :)

It is freakin' walmart releases that are a waste. This band had the potential to actual do something with their careers post Perry and all they have done is stand still. Arenel is post Soto. don't get me wrong i respected that guy augare unfortunately he failed to take off Journey though he was a sound alike perry with curly long hairs. remember me was in armagedon sound tract. the walk of fame induction and the soprano TV on 2005 none of these things aggressively alleviate Journey into the world. Steve Perry failed in 1980. Arnel Pineda does it better.

@newERNIEifyJourney Augeri didn't fail. Schon did! He left Sony which killed the band in the open market, it took a post Augeri turn in order to get Walmart interested. Schon had to create a new "hip" idea by getting a singer off YouTube. And 2nd, check the stats on this video they don't lie! Journey said they are going younger on this release? According to youtube stats on hardly anyone under 35 is actually watching them. So right there they just lost a chance to continue into the future.

But according to the live audiences the families are watching them he he. Many Garage singers took off and the classic band like Journey the open market would never be a problem.

Most of what your saying and others is just rumored garbage. Sony didn't drop them, they offered them another record after Arrival. Schon walked away from the table. Perry's 2nd album only took off in condition he would reunite to Journey which he did in Trialby fire. The offering of another label was a gentlemens' agreement. @DashDonivan You took a blame on Neal Schon for taking Augeri into an open market maybe because it was the best option. the arrival album did not sale under big label jurisdiction. its considered flop if not gold or platinum. they toured constantly and that tape gate rumor was damaging the image of Journey. it's difficult to get sign again for older bands specially the music market is changing drastically. Wallmart deal only done if the greatest hits included so Neal looked up youtube.

Augeri also carried the band through the hardest period in Journey's career, life after Perry. Soto and Arnel have a free ride now, because everyone says oh these guys were better then Augeri. They aren't comparing them to Perry at all. People need to look at the big picture, but too many fan boys kill the fun.

@DashDonivan Interesting review given that only two songs have been released and only small portions of the others have been put out there. Tell me where to go to hear what you have heard so I can make my own opinion. In regards to the singer's English speaking ability, we are not buying the album to hear him give a speech. We want to hear him sing. He does a pretty damn good job of it. And, he speaks better English than many around this country as is.

That's the impression I've gained from the snippets I've heard. The reviews I've come across suggest this album is very much Neal's album with the guitar prominent throughout. I'm looking forward to hearing the whole thing.

After the pile of canine droppings that was 'Revelations' I didn't have a lot of hope for this release. But Neal sounds more energised than he has done for years and the songs, from what I've hears of them, don't seem as contrived as the those on the previous release, which did sound like a tribute act to be honest.

@FullMontyUK well though its not pop vocal record compared to what they'd done previously. the album sounds progressive rock, not cheesy, grown-ups and some good hooks. the album is also available in vinyl so theres some really serious real music stuff in depth in this album. the pop ears maybe need more serious digging though. i think, the album potentialy can cross over to Gaga fans or maybe justin b. I got a few losts justin bieber fans message me "how to be ideal Justin's girl" ja ja ja

I see a lead singer who doesn't fit the band, a drummer who is afraid of his own vocal talent, a guitarist who runs vocalists into the ground, piano player who has an amazing writing talent but doesn't use it properly and a bass player who looks dead. Perfect frontiers release, not to be taken seriously at all. No catchy material, all talk no show. That equals the greatest Journey Tribute Band on earth. Change the name, the Journey ended years ago!
