im most likely buying this for my gaming computer, and although i am currently using one monitor, i might get two. also, i heard this is a real stepup from the 1gb edition, should i get it? i can afford either.
Currently in the return process for this exact card... Games would freeze then recover. Then it would happen again, then the screen would go black with static for a sec, then crash to desktop. Tray pop up " Driver amd driver has stopped working but has successfully recovered." Happened during basic desktop operation also. Popped in my old asus 5770, worked fine. So far Xfx has been good in responding to me.. Still annoying none the less. Also this card is really LOUD .More to come soon.
hey i was thinking about getting this card because atm i have a 4670 and i want to get dx11 from the 10 do you think my comp can handle it? im not really that tech savy but i did build my own comp but im still really new at this. my comp has a Phenom II X4 840 3.2ghz cpu, and 2g ddr2 ram (wich i plan to upgrade to 4g ddr2 800mhz) power supply i cant really rember and dnt want to disconnect everything right now, so with that info do you think it can handle this? i currently use a 32 and 27inch
I have this card but i have the 1gb versoin and it's really good cheap low wattage consumption. There is a con tho it's fan is loud, that's saying for the 1gb 6870 xfx.
@xAT4 idk man i had to do a month of research. i went with the 6870 cause it was cheaper and most peolpe say it runs almost or even as the 560 but don't get confused cause the 560 ti is a bit faster then the 560.
I bought this card and I really like it so far. Noise has not been an issue for me, even though people seem to complain about that a bit. Oddly, it seems to outperform the 1GB version by a fairly large margin (and even the faster 560 Ti in some cases) at 1080p, which seems very odd as I would have thought most games didn't need more than 1GB at that res, any thoughts from fellow tech enthusiasts about this?
@iPansophitus your full of shit, i have both versions the 1gb is just as fast,i ran fraps with bf3 with both cards on max full settings and they are withing 2fps of each other,so go bullshit to someone else!
@joecobra1234 Really? Would it kill you to be polite in your responses? Also, do you actually own both cards? Because otherwise you wouldn't get so defensive about me observing that the 2GB version appears to be faster. From everything I've seen online, the 2GB version appears to out perform the 1GB. Maybe, if you actually own both cards, you should try benching some different games than just BF3. Also, what res are you using?
This shitcard makes a lot of noise even in idle. In idle it sounds like a kitchen ventilation and when gaming it's like there is a chainsaw in your chamber. Even with msi afterburner at the lowest fanrate the sound will drive you crazy. PS: I have got a very cool system with a good air flow. DO NOT BUY THIS CRAP.
Does someone know if the dual fan edition is very silent or not?
I have an Antec BP550 Plus 550W ATX12V V2.2 Modular Power Supply. If I run this GPU, a i5 2500K, BIOSTAR TZ68A+ MB, 16GB Vengeance Corsair RAM, an OCZ Agility 3 60GB SSD, 2 HDD, one Hanns G 19" widescreen monitor (Yes, just 1 monitor, LOL), Antec 300 Illusion Case, 3 more Kingwin 120mm blue LED case fans, Razer Orochi & kbrd, 64 bit Win. 7 Ult. Do you see any bottlenecks or limitations in my new Rig? I'm about to jump into BF3. My ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 wasn't cutting in it. Thanks!
@123thepyro123 wow so mean for someone who is just trying to help, when ur running one screen u dont need a 2gb card, i was mearly saying what are the minimum requirements from a GPU that he needs, now i have a 9600gt GDDR3 and im getting this card next only because ill be running 3 screens in Eyefinity, but i dont think he needs a 2 gb card for one screen.
@justlooking369 Thanks! So I've had this card for 5 days. It is nois(ier) than my previous card even @ idle & revs more in BF3. No complaints about it tho', as BF3 runs on Ultra & a few High settings now. It's idle temp when web-surfing, etc. is 46° C & goes up to 74°C amid hours of intense BF3 killin'. Should I be concerned @ this temp? Or my Core i5 core temps of 50°C in-game? All of this is according to CPUID's Hardware Monitor, a great app. My PC specs are below. Thanks 4 yer input!
@Flexapr All i5 CPU Core temps idle @ 33°C each. I use my old yet mint Antec Super Lanboy aluminum case w/2 Tricool blue fans set to Low (1200rpm) on my case's front & back bezel (port), a Hyper 212 Plus CPU heatsink/fan with its stock Coolermaster fan & another Kingwin 120mm blue fan in push/pull towards my case's front port. This GPU has its own loud fan & I've a Vantec Spectrum (more blue!) Fan Card plugged into my Biostar TZ68A+ Motherboard's uppermost PCI slot. How's my cooling overall?
@Flexapr no thats tottally fine, u should worry if ur cpu gets to 80c+ and ur GPU goes to 80c+, the gpu takes the air from ur case to cool its self so if u wanted it cooler, u could go for a watercooling system for ur i5 like a corsair H70, i have a H80 myself on my AMD Phenom II x6 1100T and have it over clocked to 4.1 ghz and it only reaches temps of ~25c idle and ~40c on load
@justlooking369 I just jizzed all over your build since myself only got a Penom II 1075T @3.52Ghz (aircooled), my question is, is it worth getting a water cooling for extened overclocking or should i just upgrade CPU? :O
@TheJuzy if u have a AM3+ compatible motherboard (which im sure u do since AM3+ is back wards compatible with AM3) i would suggest rather than buying a Phenom 1100T to rather get a AMD FX-6100 so u can have an uptodate cpu with a slightly higher base clock and upgrade the motherboard later in time or buy an 8 core such as the AMD FX-8120 or the AMD FX-8150 (personally im holding out for the AMD FX-8170) and then upgrade the motherboard at a later time
@TheJuzy however if u do want to just overclock it further u can do that also, i mean the stock speed of ur cpu is 3.3 ghz and turbo is 3.5 ghz, meaning with water cooling u can easily achieve the magical 4.0 ghz, i wouldnt suggest taking it to that clock on air though unless u have a really good air cooler like the Noctua NH-D14, but it can easily be done without having to buy a another cpu
@justlooking369 Actually, the stock speed is 3.0Ghz on a 1075t. But i still see what you mean. My motherboard is - ASUS Crosshair V Formula, Socket-AM3+. So a motherboard improvement may not be necessary. I'm thinking about getting a better Graphics card before going after my CPU, got myself a 1gb version of the XFX RADEON HD 6870 "Dual fan"
@TheJuzy yeah, with a Crosshair there is definitely no need to upgrade...with such a high end board u can reach 5 ghz on 8 core's and 4ghz on 4 and 6 cores ^^ , nice screen card :D really cool looking...this is my setup btw;
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T @ 4.1 Ghz
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 16GB CL9 @ 1866 Mhz
GA-990FXA-UD3 Socket AM3+
Asus Radeon HD 6970 2GB Direct CU II
OCZ-AGILITY 3 60 GB
Western Digital 3TB 5400 rpm
Cheiftec 750W Modular PSU
nothing, amazing but ill be making a new setup soon ;)
@FrapsYou Shut the fuck up dip shit obviously you dont have a sense of humor and cant afford any source of sound your parents should just take away that DELL pc you are using.
@bloodypinksock The cards need to have the same memory stored, and since a card can't go over the budget, you will effectively get HD 6870 crossfire with 1 GB memory. So the 2 GB version 'loses' a whole GB.
If I'm running a monitor less than 27 inches like Eric said, Can I still use a 2gb Card, I didn't know what he meant by overkill? I just want the maximum potential out of gaming! It's my birthday in 3 days and I need to decide quickly whats a good card for around 150-180 pounds! :D
@motherboardsorg What if i get a total sex change ( any form you prefer ) some real nice hooters and your name ELRIC put on them can i get this from you :) You wont regret it I promise.
im working on a list of computer parts i want. im going to be upgrading my cpu, motherboard and also replacing my graphics card and going to run 2 graphics cards. this is giving me many ideas. my goal is to be able to stream, and render videos in hd. along with play at max settings. i run 2 monitors on my 460 but i want to upgrade. what do you think? would using 2 of these be a good idea of what i want to do?
Let me ask something: Why would the size of the monitor affect the amount of GB you need, isnt it the resolution of the monitor?. If have 1 monitor thats 20 inch and has 1360x768 res, and one thats 32 inch and has 1360x768, would there be a difference in performance?
@Mdschannel Ram stores textures for higher resoloutions to produce a better picture. Especialy with more displays or a 2560x1600 res. But it also depends on how powerful the GPU itself is to use the memory. That's why the GTX 460 2GB never existed like people wanted.
@D4rkSh00t3rPK no the memory of the card isnt for the speed it is just basicly for memory to store such as the 1gb will be fine for single display but the 2gb will be good for the eyefinity feature for the best nresult
XFX has always been my choice of nvidia cards.. XFX has never failed for me in stability, drivers/software, quality.
(ever since I got my first card: "XFX Geforce 4 MX440SE" waay back in the days. That card was so damn powerful at the time being with only 64MB ram, it performed a lot better then 2-3 years newer 128MB cards.... and yeah, back in the days the boxings of XFX cards was soo cool!)
Hey Elric: You crack me up dude! Love your reviews. One question...I am on a budget and I was planning to use an HDTV at 1080p with a refresh rate of 120hz or better in the 30 - 42 inch range as a monitor/main TV. Will a 1Gb card work well for this or do I actually need a bigger card. You mentioning that this Radeon card works best on multi monitors or something big prompted me to ask. They are expensive so I don't want to spend needlessly. Thanks bro.
"Warranty is important:" Really anyone ever got anything out of the warranty? We all know it's just shit to make front of package look good - it never works anyway..
@Hokrollo1 Warrenty is never voided, as long as you put it back together the way you got it =] i got a free kit of OCZ DDR3 1600MHz RAM after i pumped too much voltage into my 1333 kit
@Hokrollo1 XFX has the best warranty on the market! I had a 5770 from them was acting up and they rma'd that card, tested it and sent me back a 6870.... Thats customer service!
what if im playing on a 40'' tv and i wana se some sweet graphics would a 1gb be enough or should i buy a 1gb

im working on a list of computer parts i want. im going to be upgrading my cpu, motherboard and also replacing my graphics card and going to run 2 graphics cards. this is giving me many ideas. my goal is to be able to stream, and render videos in hd. along with play at max settings. i run 2 monitors on my 460 but i want to upgrade. what do you think? would using 2 of these be a good idea of what i want to do?

Sparx936 5 months ago
Why isn't there a crossfire bridge in the package?
SimGl18 5 months ago
Let me ask something: Why would the size of the monitor affect the amount of GB you need, isnt it the resolution of the monitor?. If have 1 monitor thats 20 inch and has 1360x768 res, and one thats 32 inch and has 1360x768, would there be a difference in performance?
Mdschannel 5 months ago
@Mdschannel Ram stores textures for higher resoloutions to produce a better picture. Especialy with more displays or a 2560x1600 res. But it also depends on how powerful the GPU itself is to use the memory. That's why the GTX 460 2GB never existed like people wanted.
AsianPerson3 5 months ago
@Mdschannel Yea that's what I always thought but they are probably assuming that if you get a bigger monitor or tv, the resolution will be greater
Sparx936 5 months ago
very nice intro rofl
LordJummy 5 months ago
my question is? 2gb will be 2x faster then the 1gb version? may look stupid question, but i ask anyway
D4rkSh00t3rPK 5 months ago
@D4rkSh00t3rPK absolutely not. it's no faster. it simply has more video RAM. it can load more textures, etc.
the actual GPU is no different.
LordJummy 5 months ago
@D4rkSh00t3rPK no the memory of the card isnt for the speed it is just basicly for memory to store such as the 1gb will be fine for single display but the 2gb will be good for the eyefinity feature for the best nresult
3HACKRZ 5 months ago
@3HACKRZ ok memory is just for more texturing stuff? like 1gb more i can put more things like bigger resolution, bigger textures right? xD checking

XFX has always been my choice of nvidia cards.. XFX has never failed for me in stability, drivers/software, quality.
(ever since I got my first card: "XFX Geforce 4 MX440SE" waay back in the days. That card was so damn powerful at the time being with only 64MB ram, it performed a lot better then 2-3 years newer 128MB cards.... and yeah, back in the days the boxings of XFX cards was soo cool!)
renegade8164 5 months ago
Hey Elric: You crack me up dude! Love your reviews. One question...I am on a budget and I was planning to use an HDTV at 1080p with a refresh rate of 120hz or better in the 30 - 42 inch range as a monitor/main TV. Will a 1Gb card work well for this or do I actually need a bigger card. You mentioning that this Radeon card works best on multi monitors or something big prompted me to ask. They are expensive so I don't want to spend needlessly. Thanks bro.
cy2087 5 months ago
@cy2087 1GB would be OK, but for a big TV I would get the 2GB version,,,

@motherboardsorg if im running 3 monitors 2 19" and one 32" what should i do 1 2GB or 2 2GB in xfire
or 2 1GB in xfire
Barnaby0014 4 months ago
@cy2087 Hi, on Newegg there both the same price, so really you could get the 2GB (if you can buy it from there).
