When NATO bombed Serbia back in 1999, Russia was in a slump and China was weak, so back then "most" important countries supported Kosovo's position.

But now with the transatlantic friction and G7 economic slump, NATO has lost much of its clout while SCO/ BRIC countries gained influence at NATO's expense.

There have been thousands of US troops in Germany, Japan, and South Korea for decades. If attacked, none of these countries would have been able to defend themselves from China or the Soviet Union. But noone has questioned their status as real countries.
