how many p14's were made? i have a sporterized one that says ERA serial # is low 12000's. also 17' stamp. id like to know more about it but i cant find much online. if you know anything id appreciate it. thanks
Yeah, I had a lot of trouble using reloads in my Winchester P14 with the stripper clips too. They loaded ok, but the rounds hung up a lot in the reciever, I am guessing because I was using softnose Spitzer tips as opposed to Ball ammo? I have a few boxes of surplus .303 but I'd rather hold onto them seeing as how they are becoming rather scarce.
I'm no expert, but isn't it important for rapid fire in a bolt action rifle that you can keep looking down the sights even when the bolt is actuated. I.e the bolt doesn't go too far back (forcing you to move your head), nor the handle cross the line of sight between the aiming eye and the rear sight?
I heard the P14 have that low profile bolt and was why the very similar M1917 rifle was preferred by the legendary Sergeant York for that reason.
Hi Scotty, Just picked up my new P14. There are very few markings on it. The serial number begins with a 'W'. Does this mean it's a Winchester manufacture? Does your Eddystone's serial number start with an 'E'?
I have one of these I'm wanting to restore, but I need a barrel and stock since it was a drill rifle. Does anyone know where in the states I can find a barrel?
Finding a replacement barrel is next to impossible. I was able to re-barrel mine with a newly manufactured barrel from PAC-NOR. A gunsmith I know contracted with them for some replacement barrels and he did the re-finishing and contouring himself. It was kind of pricey, but the results were phenomenal. My Patt'14 is DEADLY accurate now.
Nice shooting with your Pattern 14. Mine has a very worn out barrel and was tumbling bullets. I just had a new barrel made for it and I hope to have it re-barreled and back to me later this summer. Can't wait to shoot her again.

TaZ101SAGA 1 year ago
@TaZ101SAGA Yeah enfield chargers fit this rifle but work is another thing.
Gungeek 1 year ago
@Gungeek How do these rifles perform compared to a good Lee-Enfield No4 say?
TaZ101SAGA 1 year ago
@TaZ101SAGA The No4 is the way it is because of this rifle.

How do you find the bolt?
Treblaine 2 years ago
@Treblaine The bolt works pretty fast on this one.
Gungeek 2 years ago
The P-14 and P-17 are identitical, the only difference is the bullet, the '14 is in .303 and the '17 is 30-06.

Just bought an Eddingstone '17 off GB and looking forward to shooting it....out of all your rifles collected & shot, do you have a favorite?
kauaikit 2 years ago
No I like them all.
Gungeek 2 years ago
Understood....as I'm up to 33 C&R longarms, though would grab the M1 Garand with a few bandoleers in a hostile situation.
But always remember to fear the guy with only one rifle, since he really knows how to use it. :-)
Keep up the different videos as you can justify more rifles as just great financial investments, right?

Update.
Just got my re-barreled P-14 back from the Gunsmith and it has a new barrel. I am getting 2 inch groups at 100 yards with 180 grain bullets.
