Personally, I don't think th Wind was very well made. I've had one for a couple years now and the hard drive is very loud. The screws keep falling out, the power button broke off so now I have to reach down in to press it, I've had to get the battery and the screen replaced, sometimes when I plug in headphones, it doesn't recognize them, and more problems.
@ExtremeFaithInJesus Asus is this best. I have a dell d400 it is has been in heavy use for almost 4 years. I dropped it twice and spilt coffee on it and it still works like new wiFi and all. I'd buy asus with that much dependability and not MSI mistakes.
I carry my MSI Wind in a backpack with a little laptop slot and it floats around inside it because its so small. I assume it would fit well into a hang bag.
Both suck, especially Asus customer service is horrible, not to mention that there are tons of adaptor issues with the latest 1005HA and the Wind has a terrible touch pad and a strange upgrade policy.
@GHxx1 you always have the option to connect a RF receiver and get a wireless keyboard and mouse, netbooks have VGA ports so you can connect your LCD TV to play games or play DivX Movies, the latest Direct X drivers leyt you play wonderfull games between 2003 and 2008 like Lego Star Wars, Warcraft III Frozen Throne, Call of Duty 2, World of Warcraft, etc
But i have looked on other vids on youtube about msi wind and i have seen diffrent types of colour/designs but are they only avaible in america or sommit
Thanks for loading a review, but no thanks for making it a total waste of time. What did you did aside from hum-and-haw at it for 9 minutes? Think you coulda at least turned it on?
this video has helped me make up my mind... im going to get the acer aspire one (i think its better looking, it is slimmer, a tad smaller, but i really like a full size shift key (im quite used to the enter key height).. yup, ill get an acer
if you haven't already, check out the eee 1000he which costs less than $400. asus claims up to 9.5 hours on a single charge, but probably lower in real use. best to check amazon and newegg for reviews. i have an older eee 904ha myself that i can squeeze 4 hrs out of when watching hulu at standard def, so I could imagine a 1000he lasting at least that.
do they have a long battery life, cause i need one for college, and my classes are 90min and i have 4 classes... so a battery that last about 5.5 or 6 hours, well not even that cause im not going to be using them all day... so about 4 1/2 or 5 hours....
Mine (U100 6 cell) lasts about 2.5 hrs when I'm on YouTube, listening to music and playing games etc. If I'm just typing or reading it *might* go to 3.5 hrs if i'm lucky.
I'm not sure the "full sized" enter key on the Wind is such a good thing. The fact that they had relocate the backslash key to add this larger enter key could make it difficult for touch typists (me) to get used to. I'd love to get my hands on one to try it out before purchasing.
Man, this guy's reviews are sooo DREARY! And so SLOW! If he could just speed it up a bit and quit dilly-dallying! Get lively, fella, and tone down the treble a bit. Every "S" hurts my ears!
omfgggg! does anyone know how to add anymore???? you stated in the review that this screen is 1.1 inches bigger than an 8.9 inch screen... NO.
12 incHes = A FOOT!
9.12[SAME AS ONE FOOT]-8.9==========??????
1.3 INCHES!!!!!! COUNT ITTTTT. IM RIGHT. U AND OTHER YOUTUBE VIDEO TAKERS ARE WRONG. U R LIKE THE 2ND OR THIRD PERSON THAT SAID THAT STATEMENT IN THEIR REVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GET+IT+THROUGH+UR+HEAD== ADD RIGHT!!!!
good comprehensive review, however, you can tell he's holding the camera with one hand, and handling the netbooks with the other hand... kinda makes me sick watching it.
What makes the MSI Wind so great? It doesn't really seem like it offers anything any other netbooks don't. The Aspire One and HP Mininote really stand out from other netbooks. Aspire One's price won me over, I got it for just under $300 Canadian.
the MSI wind has the 10" screen, but other than that, the acer and MSI wind seem to be on par with each other. i have heard that the memory is easier to upgrade in the wind, but i don't know if that's true.
i'm shopping them around now, and i'm pretty much set on the ACER just cause i can get it in-store and not ave to wait for it. it's just a 1 inch difference in the screen.
Yes, upgrading the memory involves removing the whole keyboard and base... basically you go from the keyboard down, and the ram is on the bottom... Acer figured this would be easier then just putting a door on the bottom for upgrading -.- I'm typing on mine right now, my only bother is the bilingual keyboard results in having the \ button left of the enter so I'm having to get use to that.
hey man i live in montreal qc im planning on going to staples, the acer 110-1285 is 299$ whered you get yours for under 300$? the max i can spend is 370$
Just to save people from falling what I fell for: avoid the wind at all cost. The thing is NOT, I repeat, NOT build very well.
The problem is in the screen and the lid. The lid is easily bent, especially while carrying around. Also when you open an close the lid while the screen is on with a dark blue background, then you can see how there is all kinds of stress on the screen because of the watery patterns that appear.
The screen will break early I think - not well protected at all.
I'm calling airsoftkicksass1980 a terrorist for randomly harassing someone from another country for no real reason. He's a fucking waste of life and an asshole.
I got the Aspire one. But with Swedish keyboard so my enter and backspace keys are bigger. And it runs battlefield 1942 smoothly. One bad thing is that i had to take the whole computer apart to upgrade the ram.
very interesting content but you're killing me with the camera motion. Got motion sickness while watching. Please do us and yourself a favor and get yourself a tripod next time. Maybe you may even be able to actually come out in your own video next time.
Your Acer has a really wierd keyboard, mine has the same that your MSI uses... no complains from either laptops yet, i think the Acer is a bit more powerfull when talking about little gaming :)
ok, it might be better but it probably costs a lot more. First of all i wouldnt need 160GB! i only use up to 20-30GB normally. 50gb max if i have much more things 2 use
It's not only unwatchable (or at least painful) any longer than few seconds but also makes it impossible to make out any of all those details you for some reason decided to omit (e.g. I had to keep cueing back and forth this low-rez YT shit to figure out the placement of the left Ctrl on the MSI etc.)
Buy afreaking tripod and set up a corner to shoot these videos - it's informative but literally painful to watch.
Thank you for the great review, espically since I'm trying to buy a mini laptop although I do feel alittle seasich after having the camera juggled so much! :P
I purchased the Acer Aspire One with Windows XP preloaded. I have a Macbook Air too and recently went to Chicago. Guess what? The Air stayed home. The AA1 was much easier to carry and was NO problem on the airplane seat tray. The problem with the Air is it's form factor...being thin isn't the solution when you're cramped for space. I wish it had a smaller footprint.
dont you think aspire screen is too small and hard to read? i felt like that. but couldnt try internet, what you think about that. should i go for aspire one or wind?
No it doesn't have a full size enter key it just has a british keyboard. I have an Aspire One with a british keyboard and the keys are similar to that of your MSI Wind.
That enter key spreads over 2 rows of keys, that is much better than a single row enter key. Indeed it is not a full-full enter key, but it is big enough.
dude ive told u once ill tell u 2 the on the 1000h or what ever it is called dosent matter the thing that matters is the 16gb!? what the hell can i do with 16gb? and the keyboard has to be a bit bigger than this if i wanna play wow with raids and shit!
I think no hardcore gamer would use these netbooks as their primary gaming pc. But it's still nice that it can play (older) games rather smoothly, this is very handy when you're travelling in a train or plane.
Not to ruin your party, but full size enter key is not everywhere the same. I have a full size G15 keyboard and it has an enter key that is like the 0/Ins key right to the right arrow.
i have the 901 20g and i loaded windows. except the low space its a great machine!! plus that with the wifi off you get 9 hrs of battery!!! very satisfied!!!
dude I'm thinking of buying one.....can u gimme an id or something to ask u the ins and out of the 901?(torn between this and the acer aspire one 6 cell version)
Thanks dude now im getting a better view of what i should get just a tip to you others who want to get one of these dont choose the asus eee pc!!! the acer aspire one and the msi wind make the asus eee pc 901 look bad :D
Don't forget the ASUS 1000H. It has brighter screen, bluetooth, and multi-touch touch pad. Definitely look into that one before deciding. Good luck! PS: Of these 3 brand, ASUS makes the most classy laptops, look at the sleep silvery touchpad buttons for example.
I've been doing some shopping for a little bit and I'm leaning strongly in favor of the Acer One. Its the one that combines a lot of the best features and it costs less than all of them!
I see where you're coming from. What's the point of an ultra-mobile that has to be tied down with a power cord.
There is a 6 cell battery available but getting that defeats the purpose of the low price point.
My thinking is that the thing would simply be a computer that I'd keep in my car 24/7 in case I forgot my laptop and just HAD to go to Panera's or something.
i just got the 1000h and like it alot. i really wanted the aspire one though, but i just heard too many things about the wifi conections and a few other update glitches. but i do think that when the aspire one gets updated or the next model comes out, all these small "first timer" glitches will be fixed, and we will have a really nice netbook
A q, (please reply all) I really Really Wont this , But this year my parents dont have enough money :l So my dads giving me $100 My mom is to (and a lot of other people) So my Q? Should I Buy An Itouch 16 gig with apple itunes money or this?
I have the same problem... I don't know what to buy, an iphone or the msi wind. A laptop is more useful than an iphone. And what should i buy, the acer one (120GB,1GB ram) or the msi wind? Please reply
I recommend the lappy. I unfortunately bought the iTouch over the lappy because I really needed that touch screen xD. But it gets very boring quickly. So go with the computer.
Well, do you need a phone/iPod or a computer? What do you need/want to do? I would go with an Acer because its a more well known company if your going for a computer. Do all the research you can before buying anything so that you are as pleased as you can.
Asus prostituted themselves to Microsoft even when their Linux based Eee was a massive hit. Now, just try and get a decent Atom based Eee with Linux on it.
I work in the industry and know for a fact that Asus' main supplier here in Australia was selling out of Linux based Eee's. And then, strangely, you can't get the Atom (can get XP Atoms).
Do explain how an OEM suddenly would make a massive hit impossible to get ? Unless you factor in Microsoft offering kickbacks, how does it make sense ?
Personally, I don't think th Wind was very well made. I've had one for a couple years now and the hard drive is very loud. mizt3rman, you're doing your math conversions wrong.
1 foot does not equal 11.12 inches.
1 foot equals 12 inches
11.12 inches is less than 1 foot.
8.9" + 1.1" = 10.0"
10.0" - 8.9" = 1.1"
10.0" = 5/6 foot
1/2 foot = 6"

Maxed23 3 years ago
EEE-pc's aren't made for gaming you can play games with it but i wouldn't recommend it.
If u want to play games you should buy a more expensive notebook or a desktop.
Nonamekroon 3 years ago
I think no hardcore gamer would use these netbooks as their primary gaming pc. But it's still nice that it can play (older) games rather smoothly, this is very handy when you're travelling in a train or plane.

Not to ruin your party, but full size enter key is not everywhere the same. I have a full size G15 keyboard and it has an enter key that is like the 0/Ins key right to the right arrow.

amazingdany 3 years ago
if your nebiors have unprotected ya lol
rcnkiller 3 years ago
basically, yes; it commonly refers to unsecured (thus free) wireless. Several shops and city centers offer it

paradigmmaker 3 years ago

neoranger158 3 years ago

Great review thanks. :)
ryanbycraft 3 years ago
Thanks dude now im getting a better view of what i should get just a tip to you others who want to get one of these dont choose the asus eee pc!!! the acer aspire one and the msi wind make the asus eee pc 901 look bad :D
Maxed23 3 years ago
Don't forget the ASUS 1000H. It has brighter screen, bluetooth, and multi-touch touch pad. Definitely look into that one before deciding. Good luck! PS: Of these 3 brand, ASUS makes the most classy laptops, look at the sleep silvery touchpad buttons for example.

i didnt pick 1000h because it seemed to big compared to the other ones and the shift key is placed weird.

I've been doing some shopping for a little bit and I'm leaning strongly in favor of the Acer One. Its the one that combines a lot of the best features and it costs less than all of them!
idespiseall 3 years ago 2
I would have jumped right into buying that one too, if it wasn't because it has a small battery :-/
Frankieyh 3 years ago
I see where you're coming from. What's the point of an ultra-mobile that has to be tied down with a power cord.
There is a 6 cell battery available but getting that defeats the purpose of the low price point.
My thinking is that the thing would simply be a computer that I'd keep in my car 24/7 in case I forgot my laptop and just HAD to go to Panera's or something.
idespiseall 3 years ago
i just got the 1000h and like it alot. i really wanted the aspire one though, but i just heard too many things about the wifi conections and a few other update glitches. but i do think that when the aspire one gets updated or the next model comes out, all these small "first timer" glitches will be fixed, and we will have a really nice netbook
futrerockstar 3 years ago
im leaning towards the acer aspire one now since it's only $350 for a 120gb now
dal2knotaku 3 years ago
SSD Is in my opinion better.

Bloody hell... hold that camera steady dude... I get seasick from all that bouncing about!!
krede77 3 years ago
Remember the Asus is the only one that runs on 12 Volt, available in every car! The others have 19 and 20 volt power supplies.
irover 3 years ago
I wouldn't run it on an unregulated 13.4v from a car.

yashirobi123 3 years ago
I have the same problem... I don't know what to buy, an iphone or the msi wind. A laptop is more useful than an iphone. And what should i buy, the acer one (120GB,1GB ram) or the msi wind? Please reply
Mexicanu90 3 years ago
I recommend the lappy. I unfortunately bought the iTouch over the lappy because I really needed that touch screen xD. But it gets very boring quickly. So go with the computer.
thepcdude 3 years ago
Well, do you need a phone/iPod or a computer? What do you need/want to do? I would go with an Acer because its a more well known company if your going for a computer. Do all the research you can before buying anything so that you are as pleased as you can.
supergamer2346 3 years ago
Well known or infamous?
reggex 3 years ago
Asus is very reputable company also.

Keruaran 3 years ago
I'd go for the MSi Wind since it comes with Win. XP while Acer has Linux.
VidN00b 3 years ago
Hmm, I think Aspire One also is available with WinXP?
Etherem86 3 years ago
i agree with yashirobi, you cant compare to so different products. other than that, I would allways go for everything else than apple :P
