  • clemson, I just watched your video and was wondering if you have purchased your imac yet. I am currently looking to buy an imac and was not sure which one to get myself. I have been in between on going 21.5 or going big with 27. I don't need i7 computing power as any imac would be better than my Dell laptop which still performs well enough for me and it was purchased in 2007. I am just looking to get a mac because of all they are capable of. Any helpful information would be great. thank you!

  • At this point in the game I wouldnt even consider the core 2 duo, unless you just need a regular internet box. If you want power go for the i7. Being just up the road from Clemson also, you can trust me. :-)

  • @BWDinc Yeah I was thinking the same thing. My PC has higher specs than most Mac Pro's so i'm not too awful worried about the iMac. My main thing is to get one to research whether or not later on if I want to switch completely to a MAC. Right now I have an excellent workstation with Core i7 and 12 GB DDR3 Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I wont go into all specs but you get an idea.

  • @clemsonbloke Well dont forget the 27in can be your monitor for your mac pro now or later.

  • @BWDinc Yeah well I dont have a Mac Pro, I have a top of the line PC. My monitor on it is a 27 inch high def 1080p monitor though with DVI, VGA, HDMI.

  • I would go with the i7 processor and upgrade the RAM to 8gb. Arrange the RAM as 2 4gb chips so that if you ever uprgrade again you will be able to use the old chips and not have to replace them all. If you do this it will be about $3000 BUT it is a great processor and will take you FAR into the future without becoming dated. The way I see it is if you are going to spend that much anyway you may as well get the best.

  • @alwayson09 Yeah If I do that I'll upgrade ram elsewhere like newegg. Apple asks way too much for their ram and there is no benefit to it. I can get it much cheaper at Newegg. Thanks for the responses, it's much appreciated.

  • All depends what you are going to use it for if your looking for a longer term investment i would get the Quad Core i5 or if you are doing serious amounts of video editing i would bump it up to i7 processor. As for the core 2 duo they will remain in the 21.5" for heat issues and other various problems but there is a big chance they will replace it with the i3 dual core processor. remember there may be a speed bump on all models, better graphics card and quad core standard on all 27 models.

  • @GeorgeN111 True and that is why I may wait. I actually have a PC running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit Edition with the Core i7 processor, 12 GB of DDR3, 1GB NVIDIA video card, dual blu ray drives, X-Fi Titanium audio card, digital tv and readio tuner. It's loaded up. I can use it but I have always wanted a MAC too. Thanks.

  • what are you wanting to use the imac for?

  • @stuwkowalski A little light video editing, audio editing, and email, word processing, and surfing the net. No gamer here.

  • @clemsonbloke It sure sounds like the 21.5" would have enough screen acreage to do what youd like it to do perfectly, as for the computing hardware, if you are not worried about updates then go for one right away :) but macrumors states that we as the public should not buy any imac's right now because their most likely seeing an update soon, my guess would be between october and december.

  • @stuwkowalski I definitely understand man and I seriously appreciate your help and advice. I am thinking the same thing and therefore am most likely waiting but in the meantime it doesn't hurt to get Mac users ideas and suggestions. I want to know I am joining a loving caring community of computer users and it seems so from the responses I am getting. Thanks and yall keep the advice up, I need it and appreciate it. Thank you!
