  • absolutely superb!!!!

  • love the roliing piano on this tune

  • love the rolling piano on his tune

  • just hits the spot !

  • This song is really special to me. Ive heard some people complain about the lyrics, sayn things like "this girl has no self-esteem, no self respect, begging for bits and pieces of affection instead of lookin for a real, commited relationship". I guess I can see where they are coming from. It can be read that way. But I dont see it that way, I dont see it as self-depreciative at all. For me, this song is about real, hardcore, selfless love. The one worth having and living.

  • @ivillek For me it says, "I really like you, stay with me a bit, but you are free, go and have fun, and come back to me once in a while!" It shows real respect. It aknowledges the lover as a person and not a thing to be shown or ketp secret. True love!

  • @ivillek I love Dusty, but her musical persona was something of a doormat. I once read a good description of "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" as "she's throwing herself in front of his car for just a few more days. Then there's Breakfast in Bed;she knows the quy will go back to his girlfriend, but she's still begging him to stay for a little while, and so on. That's why Dusty is so compelling, she's so much in love that's she's willing to make choices she knows will turn out badly.

  • @ivillek Cont. I think that's why people like her so much. Everyone wants to be completely swept up in by love or to have someone love them that much. In real life, that'll end up meaning that either you are a stalker or you have one, but Dusty lets you experience those emotions vicariously.

  • @BlackMonk66 Interesting way too look at it. :D

  • Putting the modern "RnB" singer to shame! Deeply moving, yet direct and honest, beatiful stuff.

  • Really nice song , great singer.

  • Just want to say to future generations watching this, when youtube is a visual audio wraperound experiance, this how we loved Dusty's voice vibrating the air about our ears, and we were enriched by the experiance.

  • wie bezaubernd!

  • I LOVE both this singer and song!

  • you know dusty right she need some of your lovin.

well it time for me to flash. back i can sure reminese.

  • love this song

  • one of my alltime fave songs and singers <3

i know its older than i am but i've grown up loving dusty so :L

listening to dusty taught me how to sing <3

    r.i.p dusty <3

  • dusty melted my heart in the 60s and helped me through life....I miss her so much

  • IMHO, Dusty was the finest white soul girl ever. When she was allowed to record gems like this, and not some of the pop hits she herself despised, she had a rare quality. "Dusty In Memphis" was a towering achievement, but didn't even make the UK abum charts. RIP Dusty .... your voice was a treasure that we can all still share, thankfully.

  • @SouthCoastMackem Her real achievement was in those pop hits. She's always qualified as the finest "white soul girl" (unnecessarily, I think, she could stand with anyone), as though people like Aretha were in another category, but when it comes to sixties big ballads like "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" or "I Close My Eyes and Count To Ten," she OWNED the genre.

  • @BlackMonk66 There is no doubt whatsoever that Dusty was a great songstress in whatever genre she sang, but she herself in later life railed against the straitjacket she felt she was placed in by management and record company alike during he heyday in the 60s. No disrespect to any of the pop hits she had, but Dusty herself never felt completely at ease doing them - her musical inclinations were much earthier.

  • @SouthCoastMackem She said a lot of things in interviews that I think were just standard "my new material is the best I've ever done" comments. Her 60s material was a lot more wide-ranging and "earthier" than her post-72 albums. "All Cried Out," "Goin Back," "Look Of Love," "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me," that's a lot of ground right there and she spoke highly of all of them. Besides, she was pretty much in control of her 60s sessions. It was after DIM that she let other people take charge.

  • @BlackMonk66 We both agree she was a brilliant artist, we just differ slightly about the how and when and why. Let's just revel in the beauty of her voice and her life - is it really worth splitting hairs over, or should we just accept each other's perspective? Whatever our respective opinions on degrees of detail, we both rate her really highly, so shouldn't that be enough? :-)

  • @SouthCoastMackem Oh, I'm not arguing. I just like talking about this stuff. Dusty had a different perspective from either of us. She was the only person in the world who didn't think DIM was a great album. That's the thing about Dusty fans. Everything she did is someone's favorite.

  • @BlackMonk66 Agreed! No such nonsense as "white" soul...soul is soul, and did she ever have SOUL!!! Fabulous!

  • extraordinary video of dusty.

  • Dusty, the best there ever was

  • Phil Collins version is also pretty good! You should check it out guys!

  • @johnslullaby Phil version is really good...well the whole album is amazing!!!

  • Why can't songs sound like this anymore?! This is just a beautiful song and Dusty adds her beautiful touch to it. (Sigh)

  • The best British female pop / soul singer ever. It took me till 1:10 to realise that this is not the record but a live version such is the quality of her vocal. Kiki Dee sings backing vocal on this. Written by Goffin & king recorded in 1965.Pax to all from 'SoulBoy'Smith.Xxx.

  • amazing!

  • an unforgettable opening, peculiar and outdated lyrics, beautiful vocal by my sweetheart - just the perfect mix. ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS EVAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

  • @tightfistedtitans The lyrics aren't outdated. The words still depict ways of thinking people have today, but they do make for one haunting and beautiful song.

  • Oh man, Dusty does this one good! What a singer!!!

  • The earlier vision by the Honey Bees is quite good as well, So far can't find it on YT

  • phantastic. pure music from the heart.

  • Dusty was a perfectionist and I thought I remember reading that this is the only track where she found no fault. Carole King has said that this is her favorite cover of ANY of her songs.

  • Why wasn't this a huge hit? It's perfect.

  • Her fave song, she said it in a Shivaree performance........

  • CLASSY LADY ,thats Dusty.

  • yes, i saw Dusty interviewed 'bout 10 years ago, and remember her saying this track was her favourite, a lovely song...while we're in this neck of the woods..i was pleased to hear Sandie Shaw say her favourite, was mine lol - Girl Don't Come.

  • she has to be greatest ever British female singer and unlikely to be bettered

  • @shrewsoul Unless there's a dramatic change within the way the Music Industry is ran in the UK, she will never be bettered, no-one these days has the soul or character Dusty had. Even if they did, they wouldn't get anywhere, people these days want X-Factor "perfect voice" personas, that is all, they have no appreciation for the finer arts and performers.

  • @Rotateitbaby Absolutely spot on !, Dusty was the best in my opinion, she had such soul.

  • My favourite Dusty track - I believe it was her favourite too

  • A pity this wasn't in colour - it would have been very cosmic.

  • Yeah, she sure was special........her music was part of the soundtrack for my life.......Thanks, Dusty. I sure miss you.

  • One of my favorite Dusty songs. Absolutely fab!

  • From several interview clips I've seen, it seems like a lot of folks gave Dusty a hard time for the "Panda Eyed" look. I think she said she had picked it up from French models in fashion magazines back in the day. Personally, I think she's just gorgeous and the eyes became sort of her trademark. Anyway, it works for me...she looks and sounds divine here.

    Thanks for the clip.

  • Mycroftsbrother - No, they din't give her a hard time over the 'panda look', they just gently teased her about it. It was all done in good humour and as far as I can tell, she took it as such.

  • I have been searching for this song ever since I heard it in an Oprah Winfrey TV movie called "Before Women had Wings". Man this is beautiful; and so is Dusty! RIP Dusty and thank you for your great music.

  • The Greatest Female singer ever, I doubt there will ever be anyone to match her.

R.I.P Dusty, love & miss yer lass.

    Ray♥ X X X

  • OMG is this beautiful

  • This is a kinescope(film copy) of Dusty's appearance on the American television show "Hullabaloo" circa 1965. The original was on videotape and in color.

  • one brill and singer

  • fuckin great

  • Comment removed

  • This song gets stuck in your song! Such a great sound :)

Dusty is so gorgeous at 1:23

  • Where does this video come from?

  • Spot-on production

  • On her original recording, her voice is as smooth as a violin, and it's easy to see why Dusty nominated this as being her favourite.

  • Can't get the tune out of my head.....

  • One of my top 5 Dusty songs, written by Carol King

  • Actuall musice by King and lyrics by Gerry Goffin

  • Carole is amazing , and dusty performs this great.

  • dont forget carole`s lyric writer gerry goffin!

  • Yes indeed, A great team together.
