  • Why should music always be harmonized? There are a lot of western music which are not harmonized. If you want to listen harmonized go to elementary music school. The beginners there play very good harmonized music. ;)

  • So lovely!

  • On a side note, it's pretty pathetic that some people like to make assumptions about others that they don't even know and based on those (wrong) assumptions, they make accusations and inaccurate conclusions. (in other words, nonsense)

This is understandable since it is commonly found in those that lack confidence, self-esteem and capability to think.

I do not take any offense in below comments said to me, simply because they're untrue and don't apply to me at all. Cheers, everybody! =)

  • If myanmar piano music is harmonized, it can no longer be called "pure myanmar music". It would become a cross-breed western myanmar music. And if that gets presented to non-myanmar music audience, no one can claim it as myanmar music because it is not. It's like you want apples to taste like oranges, so you plant apple seed and orange seed together. That's fine, it's an innovation, totally acceptable. But the product is neither pure apple nor orange. It's a cross-bred fruit. Same analogy here.

  • @BunnyKaboom can't agree more. I'm so into myanmar piano, it's meant to sound like playing patalla.

  • @pianist1501, @KMYIN1000

Since you both like to "modernize" myanmar music and other aspects and since you both gave me great laughs from reading all your comments and replies, I would like to thank you by extending an invitation to visit me in NYC (New York City). I will honor you with "modernized myanmar mohinga"; it'll be a combination of myanmar fish broth with clam chowder. As a tradition lover, I'm content with the original version. bye now! :) got more important things to do with life :)

  • @BunnyKaboom

Because our goverment wants to keep people narrow-minded lots of people like you remain insular to new ideas. You make me laugh with your lack of open-mindedness. Just like old traditionalists who criticised Sandaya Mg Ko Ko for his non-traditional piano accompaniment to Yamonar, Hlat pan khwe nye ect.

  • @BunnyKaboom

My assumption is that you accept most western inventions including the piano- but piano to be played like a pattala. I myself would like as I said on previous comments that while we should have this traditional style, we should also have another style wth harmony. Myanmar pianists should be conversant with both ways. I,am sure Ko Aung Win can play piano with harmony as well. If he does, for some Myanmars,it might be like the saying- kywe par saung tee

( playing harp to a bull).

  • @pianist1501 As I said, SAW has played before in different styles. But depends on songs. I video taped while he was playing in 3 different styles of Tain Ta Man last weekend. One has to come up with better or same results. So far this one is the best out of different pianists' performance. How about SAW's piano together with Orchestra to lift up his melody lines. Allow us 3 weeks, after current projects done. Thank you for your comments..2bContinued

  • @pianist1501, I never said that I interviewed anyone. I was just trying to get a clarification of your statement. From your comments, I can see that you like to make assumptions. How do you know that I don't wear longyi?

@KMYIN1000, I am only in favor of retaining traditions of our myanmar music and our culture. I never mentioned that I did not want any change in other aspects.

  • @BunnyKaboom

I wear longyi at home. You know full well what i mean- in public in NY. You can just continue to piano played like a pattala. Better still- just listen to pattala- there are more traditionalists than you who think that piano should not be used for myanmar music. Since I like myanmar music I want music to be appreciated by foreigners- only by harmonising the piano playing we will achieve it. You were the one making assumption that the foreign audience like our piano music.

  • The first step before performing in front of Ivy league community is to get invitations. Invitations came from "What is Myanmar Piano & its rules? How & when did the piano become adopted instrument in Myanmar orchestra? Sandaya was invited to scholarly events in such Institutions to answer and play their specific. Once inside, you face the audience who learned from him which is the second part. Now it is clear, be insular & invited first, then you got a seat. Sandaya, please respond. Thank U

  • If we play our Myanmar classics with piano in western style, we will lose our culture. Here, the Americans support the culture of the minority groups. Therefore, dear Sandaya AW, please continue to promote our music and culture so that we can distinguish ourselves as Myanmar rather than a group of Asians. Yes, Myanmar pianist play like Myanmar Harps and Patala, that is the beauty. No other pianist can play alike . Sandaya AW has been performing Myanmar piano in Ivy League Universities since 90s.

  • @tyftmusic

This is an insular attitude. For the myanmars you would like the pianists to play the melody line only. Piano is not a pattala. It is a waste of the resources of piano which can be played with 10 fingers to play instead like a pattala. You would prefer that all foreigners remarking that myanmar piano music is played with one hand because the left hand just shares the right hand's work in stead of playing harmony and counterpoints.

  • @tyftmusic

And If you ask the American audience in Ivy League Universities , they would tell you that it sounds like being played with just one hand and there is no harhomy at all. They would listen to it as a curiosity rather than the correct way of playing the piano.

  • @pianist1501

Is it either your opinion or have you interviewed each individual one of those for their interest/reason for watching/listening myanmar piano music? How do you know that they're not interested at how different cultures adopt the piano instrument differently?

Also, when using such terms as "correct way of playing the piano", there needs to be a clear definition of correctness.

  • @BunnyKaboom

I suppose you have interviewed each individual yourself. I do not need to interview them. I have enough experience that my English friends saying after listening to Myanmar piano music on recordings that we Myanmas play piano with just one hand- and it was from several people. There will always be people interested in music of different countries and listen to them- that does not necessarily mean they like i, they might think it is an oddity to play piano like a xylophone.

  • @BunnyKaboom

The correct way to play piano in most countries including China, Japan, Korea, Phillipines etc is to use the right hand mainly for melody and the left hand for harmony and the use of pedals which is hardly used in myanmar piano music. Piano is not like a flute or clarinette, where a single melody line is played. Most Myanar pianists play piano like a pattala although it is not a pattala. In Myanmar of course people like you still think it is great to play like that.

  • @BunnyKaboom

It is OK if you like the piano being played like a xylophone It is another thing when you are aganst modernising the myanmar piano music. After lots of debate , I realise that we should have the traditional way and at the same time we should experiment with harmonisation of myanmar piano music. You do not want myanmar music to be ossified and played like it was 200 years ago? You use computer- not pay ywet?.You wear trousers - not longyi. Music, you dont want it modernised.?

  • @BunnyKaboom

Our country has been insular, since our goverment wants to keep it that way so that people are ignornant and do not rebel. Sadly, our goverment has succeded since there are people like you who does not want any change, even if it is for the better. Even the Chinese and the Japanese have woken up- you still in deep slumber? I want myanmar music recognised internationally- thats why i want Sandaya Aung Win to modernise our piano music. You should have lived in the Kaungbong Khit.

  • Here are the multiple responses from Myanmar Americans, Tim Tan: I do not agree with some of the comments on youtube. This is pure Myanmar music and thus should not be westernized just to include harmony part. You play really great....!!!

If we play Myanmar classics in western style, we will lose our culture. Asia Society and Sedana Society requested Sandaya AW to play Myanmar Music, I mean pure Myanmar music, not the copy or contaminated style.

  • @tyftmusic My opinion! First we have to show the original myanmar music to our young generation. I think Sdya AW played this solo for presenting of original style of myanmar music, based on two hands method. This pianist is the best for me. I 'd never seen before how myanmar pianists play in their way of using the fingers on western instrument. I like to suggest to him to perform his myanmar pianist solo with western orchestra on tv channel so that people will know.

  • @tyftmusic

The Chinese, Japanese , Korean do not lose their culture just because they play their music on the piano with harmony. You can still hear the individual characteristics of each music culture. To play Myanmar music does not mean to play only the melody line on the piano without harmony and counterpoints. This music will still sound Burmese with harmony and definitely will sound better still.

  • Wonderful, thanks for sharing.

  • Nice playing but the myanmar way of piano playing. But his piano music, not only to the westerners, but also to the modern eastern musicians, Chinese , Japanese etc will sound devoid of harmony. I also have experience that my friends remarked that the myanmar piano music is played with one hand only. Because only the melody line is played and no left hand harmony nor chords.

  • @KMYIN1000

I also like to play myanmar songs with harmony and left hand accompaniment. But there are no printed music with harmonisation available. Maybe Saya Sandaya Aung Win should arrange myanmar songs with western style harmonisation and publish the score so that not only myanmars but also foreigners can play and appreciate the myanmar music. The way it is played today by myanmar pianists - single melody line- the foreign musicians will not regard it as proper or right way of piano playing.

  • Wonderful indeed, it makes me cry, no word to choose the best of the best

  • Hi Saya, thanks for your promise to teach me to play this song like you do in four years. By that time, I will be Sandaya Nai Lin Oo. LOL!!

  • I love it. Thanks. More piano music please.

  • very nice one...Ilove this song very much!

    thanks for sharing!

  • Very nice song
