I have purchased other craigslist notifying software that sends an email of matches every hour or so. Does Notifywire send an email as soon as something is posted? For, instance if 20 ipods are posted, I would get 20 separate emails?

@kolamap Yes, NotifyWire will send alerts as soon as the ad is found. There is often a lag from post date because of how Craigslist batches their updates, but NotifyWire checks very frequently.

Let's say you find your ipod but you don't have your serial number...how do you prove it was yours?

Sometimes you have to register these. Also by the music and your last download - you have to come up with something unique about your Ipod.  If you live in an area where the police are swamped with calls - then forget about it.
