They are intricately detailed models that are incredibly hard to paint and model. The tactics are extremely in depth, which these reporters obviously do not understand, and wargaming creates a universe in which a gamer may forget about the troubles of the real world for a while and just explore science fiction technologies and cultures.

I recon warhammer sucks as a former player i realised GW only wants to rip you off and that when i was young the warhammer history became the real thing to me, im glad to be out of 40k and am even happier to be playing FOW. Thats my opinion though.
it got really bad and reached its peak id say around 2006. But actually its gotten better. Much of there product now is plastic and are being sold at decent prices. $22 for a ten men unit. Though it is true youll prob need 4 to get a decent army, you dont have to shell out $40 off the bat. You can build as you go, and arent forced to get all at once. I think in that respect it has gotten better. And the actual GW stores arent as anal as before.
i think women don't play because they didn't play with green army men as kids, so why would they play with more complicated army men when they got older.
The thing I find annoying is that this reporter thinks that there must be women involved to make it socially acceptable. Err? Rugby and American Football involve neither. Besides, I am not defined by myself being a wargamer, but my participation in Wargaming is defined by me. This guy just cannot accept that we are normal. Sure we play with plastic men, fine by me, but we do have that normal streak in us like all of those people proved.

It is understandable that some people may see the hobby of painting for and playing wargames as "geeky". But it must also be said how underestimated it is altogether. Video games have too much that is pre-designed, and for anyone that has played video games, they will remember that the most fun one has is when the game and the story can be shared and when whatever happened was one's own "story". Wargaming offers that: every battle, every army, every campaign is tailored by the players.

I agree, but we wargamers/modellers just have to come to the realization that we are a bunch of weird guys and gals! I mean, we paint and push around small toys, usually screaming out taunts and making strange noises while we're at it! I'm a girl and I wargame.
My favourite game is Wargods of Aegytpus. Hey I can play Catgirls, what more can I say ;-).
I also play Flames of War, Russian Infantry, that my hubby converted into all girls for me.
I started off with DBA and some Hott, but don't play them much any more.
We also have another female friend who wargames as well, but not so much since she had kids.

umm is that wargaming in nz or wargaming in auckland? 'cause i dunno but in wellington u have more people age 10-25 and almost never get 50+
but it is true that woman wargamers are rare, i've seen only 4 in my life (one of them being my mother that sometimes has a massive word wargame with my father :D)

I agree, but we wargamers/modellers just have to come to the realization that we are a bunch of weird guys and gals! I mean, we paint and push around small toys, usually screaming out taunts and making strange noises while we're at it! But, in the end, you can't be pushed around by what society dictates is "weird" or not; and besides, everyone has their own eccentricities, whether it's wargaming or some other hobby.
