Death rate has in fact gone down by 30% since 1999 while life expectancy in 2 years alone went up by 6 1/2 years for both male and female and will continue to rise as Russian healthcare gets more attention - it already has since 2005 (and was a national Putin's address in 2006). Increase in economy resumed in 2009 by 7% annually and population and migration too followed.

I believe that the nations like Russia and China are and have been preparing for a future time when they intend to confront the United States, the West, and Israel. I don't think the world is going to end in 2012 either, but I do believe we are heading into a very difficult period for the world and it will get far.....far worse. And yes, we will see World War III eventually, and I suspicion that America will be on the losing side this time.

Social Security has never missed a payment to anyone. There is/was a surplus of funds,whick was stolen by the banks and their ilk.
To have Social Security last and even be able to double payments all you would have to do is lift the cap on the Social Security tax Tax all earned income at the going rate and Social Security will be solvent forever.

Social Security is not a ponzi sceam. It is not broken. It's the best thing that ever happened to the middle class.
Social Security protects you if you become disabled, if you die it helps your children and wife so they don't end up on the street, and it gives you an income when you retire so you don't end up living in a cardboard box underneath a bridge.
Calling Social Security a ponzi scheme is a talking point for the bankers and wallstreet to steal the last protection Americans have.

I just finished the "Alas Babylon by Pat Frank" & Lo & Behold a friend of mine who is of a unique character told me that it was a book assigned to his class after a vote between 2 choices and this was in a Detroit area school no less! Believe me, I'm aware: I attended the Detroit public "education" system.
Either way that was a good read also & it was well written along the same line as Mr. Niven's effort.
