@themish1 Not quite , his hands were only following the wheel , movement of the wheel was caused by oversteer itself , although countersteer appears it's not even closely enough to correct the car
btw you are right , overdoing it is actually even worse but I have to say that this dude knew shit about what he was doing , classic beginners mistake that could have been avoided with proper practice and knowledge
@68ray Thank you for the input, I have beat myself up forever thinking I did something wrong, I had gone through that corner so many times before, I didnt understand the rear end coming out that quick
@ap2guy 100hp More, more torque, 7 speed synchro rev transmission, video game like paddle shifters, tech package, nav, sound system, bluetooth, just a whole bunch of MORE :), still miss the S though, you truly felt like you were in a gokart in the S
@Masterchief118118 sorry for the late response, I guess the 370z is just s completely different car, corners and handles well, big jump in horsepower from 240 to 340 and torque, engine feels solid, doesn't have the gokart feeling of the S2000 which can make tracks fun, but not daily driving. I hope to get another S2000 strictly for track, but right now I love my Z, much more horsepower, every inside tech from nav bluetooth, rocking sound system, etc....
if it spins at the point when there is no coming back, its best to leave the steering wheel alone and it will just spin out most likely not touching anything..
I was there also in my s2000 (2004). What year model of S were you driving? I watched your video and it seems strange to me how it ignored your steering input. It didn't seem to be that far out of shape, but what do I know.
@lanierje Yeah, the car seemed to have great grip, and then in an instant rear end lost all grip. The problem I still believe is I ran the car fairly hard all day. It was an expensive W Rated Yokohama, but the Treadwear Rating was really high 500+, as I have said in some of these other post, I will plan on having a more dedicated track car, sticky rubber, etc... I ran at the Event in 2009 all day no problems, but had stickier Sumos Z Rated Tires on. It was my second S2000 and it was a 2005
Do yourself a favor and get a dediacted track car with the appropriate safety mods.
A harness and a Hans at minimum. Check out NASA Southeast. We run there all the time as well as many other tracks in the southeast. Be safe out there.
geez, that happened pretty quick... i guess the W rated tires let go with little warning....gripping, gripping, gone. :( Didn't look like you were pushing hard or anything... What kind of car are you in now? Did you pick up another S? (i imagine they totalled the s2k?) also did insurance cover it or did they figure out the crash happened on the track? Definitely happy to see you walk away and be in good spirits, cars can always be replaced :)
@Johnishere190 Cars can be replaced :) Just like you viewed, it happened quickly and I had been through that corner many times this event and also did the same track event last year with the same car. Going over it a million times and looking at other video, it looks like I may have taken the Apex of Turn 5 about a half a car lenght sooner than I had on other runs, the sun had also come out and the track go slicker. Will run race slicks next time. I also was running the car very hard all day :)
@sirwilliamchristian Oh, sorry, didn’t introduce myself. I was in the BMW135i, talked to you all day . Here’s a recommendation and only take it as that…run a good street tire next year (aka softer Z rated, extreme summer). A racing slick will be harder to drive, thelimit is a lot farther than the tires you were on but the limit will not present its self until you are past the point of no return. A good street tire will let you know when its near its limit and will be more forgiving.
@Johnishere190 Hey John, I hope you are well, it was a pleasure meeting you at the track. Yeah, appreciate the advice, I decided about 5 minutes after I hit the wall, I would never run W rated All Season Yokohamas again! The tires were definitely a part of my demise late in the day. Yeah Z Soft Compound minimum next time. Hoping to pick up a S2000 CR which would come with Summer Z rateds and upgraded suspension on it. Hope to see you on the track again :)
@Johnishere190 I bought a Lexus IS 350 to replace the S2000 as my daily driver. I plan on buying another S2000 in late 2011 to get back on the track for a full season. I am hoping to pick up a S2000 CR. The car was totalled and I sold it to a Salvage company for several thousand. No Auto Insurance doesn't cover this, but Track Day Insurance would have been good!!!! Will know better next time :) Can't wait to get back on the track, Speed is my Drug :)
Glad to hear you were back on the slopes the next weekend! That looked like a rough hit, it's neat to see the footage. I was running the white S2000 that weekend. Gotta take advantage of the instructors MVP provides, they're great!
MAN That's a nasty place to hit I've been working there for a few years and run there a LOT and that's just a nasty spot. I'm glad you walked away from that especially in a street car. I was running that weekend as well but Saturday only I'm guessing this was Sunday?
Yeah, I am ok thankfully :). Hit the wall hard, but luckily walked away from it. Had some bruised ribs but that was it and a headache, hahaha. I was snow skiing one week later in Aspen, that video is posted under my profile with the same Go Pro Camera that came flying out of the car and continued to roll. I can't believe the camera survived as well without a scratch on it.

This video has kept me wondering for well over a year now and now that I study it again, I'm convinced there was some type of fluid on the track.
1. Your inputs were smooth.
2. The car had taken a set.
3. Car was in steady state cornering with no tire squeal to indicate excessive slip angle.
4. At the 2:53.5 second mark, it looks like there might be something on the track.
5. The rear steps out quickly as the car crossed that part of the track - with no tire noise.
Just sucks......

SCARY !!! I'm glad you were ok. I go to Rd Atl a lot in a Miata. Did you post any pics of the damaged car?

Wow.. Looks terrible. Must be the worst feeling ever when its a point where you can do absolutely nothing.
How ya liking the 370z? I test drove one before I bought my s2000, but I just couldn't see it being more fun. Better in any ways?

Now driving a 370z, will see what trouble I can get into now :)

@sirwilliamchristian do you think it is a more fun car to drive the 370z? What do you like about it more compared to the s2k? Please respond
