Seems with most of the fighters in the WEC being less popular than those in the UFC forces them to have more to prove to make a name for themselves. You dont see as much pretty boy bullshyt. These guys just go out there to put on the best fight they can, Win or Lose.

WEC was created in 2001,and had bouts in all weight classes.Zuffa (owners of ufc) purchased WEC in dec 2006,and continued with that format.This made it hard to secure a TV deal. Zuffa then decided to change the format (ie the weight classes) holding only bouts with the smaller divisions. They then secured a TV contract with "Versus". They will not be incorporated with the UFC. There is now talk of adding a flyweight div.,as well as womens' bouts.

Reason for only the smaller weight classes. Is about the TV deals. No one wanted to pick up the WEC if the fighters were going to get good ,get exsposure,then move on to the big show (ufc). See previous post for other changes made by ZUFFA.

Even Chuck Liddell was,at one point staged to fight in the WEC. Dana White and Reed Harris, (manager for the WEC) were in simultaneous negotiations with Chuck. It was at that point, it was decided by both, that it was in Chucks better interests to fight in the UFC.

Well it looks like all you did was copy and paste wikipedia, UFC was founded prior to the WEC. I would guess that Liddell was in the UFC before his offer to join the WEC? So why would the UFC offer their most valuable fighter to go to the WEC that doesnt make sense.

Nope, what I did was read the article "Men in Blue" in UFC issue #1.Then short of coping the whole article,I pulled out facts that I felt best answered some of the other ??s on this page. Yes LIDDELL had been under contract in the UFC. But in 2001,with WECs debut :Princes of Pain,at Tachi Yokut casino in Cali. Reed Harris had LIDDELL signed. After negotiations he never made the appearance in the WEC.

He once managed fighters,like ORTIZ and LIDDELL. Which is also part of the reason LIDDELL was and still is to this day,one of the highest paid fighters in UFC history. They then tranplanted the league to Las Vegas, for it's 1st show at the Hard Rock Casino Jan.20, 2007.Zuffa then dissolved the WECs' heavyweights,and introduced a modified octagon (26').Last September2008they then got rid of the lightheavy,middle,and welterweight divisions and moved those fighters to the UFC.This is as I've said already helped secure the TV deal with VERSUS.

Some of the differences are the octagon,the UFCs' octagon is 30',the WECs' is 27'. The action is faster paced with the smaller guys.These guys in general don't get gassed .Same level of skill though,for example KOs & SUBS.The pay scale is alot lower compared to the UFC.For example, FRANKIE EDGAR fights at 155 because the pay is better there.(ufc) He still does awsome,but the guys are usually bigger than him.There's also talk of the having the women compete in the WEC.
