No. Not that I know of.

Basically it is pretty simple. Just animate a cube extruding upwards (or in any direction). Use the cut face tool to cut a square sized cube at the top of the fully extended part of the animation then select the face on the side you want to extrude then extrude that part out. It just repeats like that.

You might be able to extrude along a curve but I couldn't get that to work without doing stupid things.

I really like this video. Did you just add it to sound in 3ds max or maya? It is simple, but definitely eye catching and does the trick.

you can import sound into maya and then you can just keyframe the animation to the wavelengths.

It makes it easy animate to the sound beats.
