  • Robinson Cano could outhit him. Just saying.

  • Boston Could sure use a catcher!

  • OMFG! aluminum bat or not that was a monster hit, and it when over the jumbo tron! wouldn't mind having him on my team

  • 4 people don't have the heart of a champion.

  • Strasburg is going to suck after tommy John

  • this kid suck why won't he use a wooden bat

  • IMO, the kid has one of the most natural power homerun swings I've seen in a LONG time. The question is if he'll be able to bring that into the major leagues, with pitching dominating as much as it is right now. We're heading into a pitcher oriented era where guys just aren't gonna hit 50-60 HR per year. You can't just have a powerful stroke and expect to succeed. He needs to learn to be a hitter, which I think he can. BTW, he would hit long HR's with wood bats as well. Stupid argument.

  • Big deal. Josh Gibson and babe Ruth, and a long list of others, hit legendary homers against major league pitching- some reported to be 600 feet- with old school lumber. Let's see where this "phenom" is is ten years. the odds of rehab and the all star team are about equal. BFD.

  • MLB FUTURE LEGEND.

  • aluminum... so diferent

  • I told a kid that Tyrell Pryor was overrated and wont make it in the NFL and he laughed. I bet that Bryce Harper is a bust!

  • aluminum bat!!! no comparison to a mlb wooden bat.

adding pitch speed does not add that much to the final distance. 50 feet is not right if you consider adding pitch speed. bat speed increase makes the ball go a lot farther than pitch speed increase. add 20 feet for a faster pitch but take away about 70 feet for an aluminum bat so you get about a 450 foot big league homer.

just think what mcgwire, joey bell, killebrew, mantle would have put baseball using an aluminum bat,

  • @travrosty sports science did a whole thing during the home run derby about that and they said that a 5 mph increase of bat speed adds 10 feet to a ball but a 5 mph increase of pitch speed adds 25 feet so pitch speed adds more that bat speed(which btw he has plenty of bat speed anyway so if you add more bat speed its ganna go even further)

  • @jeremybloom1115 other way around dude you mixed them up

  • @jeremybloom1115 no u have it backwards, i saw the home run derby as well it was the other way around. bat speed is one of the most important things as far as distance goes.

  • @mckmetall yup, it's all bat speed that creates distance. Bat speed, and trajectory.

  • @jeremybloom1115 it was the other way around u fucking idiot

  • @travrosty mcwire isnt 16 years old

  • @travrosty sports science much?

  • @travrosty not sure about the exact metrics of wood vs metal but you're horribly wrong about distance from pitch speed according to scientists who've written about it.

  • U realize he was the first pick of the 2010 MLB Draft

  • really? wow hes using metal bat that gives him like an extra 200 feet. in the bigs if they used metal bats they would kill someone.

  • the 502 foott metal bat shot means about 486 more feet than you can hit a ball. so shut it up spanky

  • Your right Wonder...aluminum bats don't count for a real home run

  • he has a very good swing so what if he is using a aluminum bat a good solid swing is a good solid swing nice job

  • It would have been nice if they could have worked in some more ads in the beginning.

  • wood bat please

  • on a side note, nice power transfer

  • arent to many people on the planet that got the hand eye to squash the bug and make contact at the same time, good talent.

  • aluminum bats dont make a difference in distance retard. it just makes it jump off the bat faster

  • @bmcginty20 whisch gives the ball more more distance!!!! the speed of the ball coming off the bat determines how long the ball stays under its own power to travel distance. it does make a difference.

  • ok all u guys who r hating on bryce for having an ugly swing or omg! he is using an aluminum bat this kid has massive power all the scouts kno it he is getting drafted. so when he is making millions for baseball u r ging to be sitting on the couch watching him dumb fucks

    just saying

  • @TeaM3300 if anyone knows anything about baseball they know that everyones approach to the plate is different, therefore so is their swing until contact. I wouldn't worry about these fuckheads too much

  • And wood bats have killed people from breaking and hitting players. I guess they should be banned too.

  • @jeremybloom1115 Yes but that RARELY happens, a lot more people die from aluminum than wood though. Look the numbers up

  • @jeremybloom1115 agreed we should use leather bats now..

  • @jeremybloom1115 we should all just get wiffle ball bats lmao

  • This guy is 16 years old at the time. That's the point. "We'd see 550+ from MLB power hitters ..." What the hell do you think this guy is going to be in 5-6 years?

  • @WonderDrugEchinacea ...The only reason metal has killed little league kids, is 1 because they got hit in the temple, or something very unlikely like that...and i mean could you imagine watching little league kids play with wood?? they couldnt even begin to swing it, way too heavy.

  • you are what we call a hater. The kid is 16 and your saying MLB grown men would out hit him ( but by 30 feet)...lol

for the record he hit 23 ALL WOODEN BAT homers this year in college at 17. Hater , its not his fault you got cut senior year.

  • @jerseymike16 he now finished the season with 31*.

  • @WonderDrugEchinacea chill your fucking nuts dude, it's highschool ball

  • @WonderDrugEchinacea broken wood bats are just as dangerous if not more dangerous

  • Stop hating this is a 16-17 yr old kid flat out mashing. 502ft I dont care what kind of bat, again this is a 16-17 yr old kid. Put aside the deaths related to sports in general. They are unfortunte but they happen in all sports not just baseball. This is a positive post let keep it that way

  • That song is very similar to the old theme of the NBA playoffs in NBC

  • the song ?

  • heart of a champion by nelly

  • Aluminum/Composite bats are going to kill someone someday

  • he has an ugly ass swing

  • 502 feet is impressive. For all the people saying "aluminum bat", I would counter with "batting practice pitch". So maybe take away 80 feet for the bat, BUT ADD 40-50 feet for a faster pitch. I have no problem believing this kid could hit a 94 mph fastball 450 ft PLUS.

  • That's a good point

  • true

  • @jeremybloom1115

You're kidding right. Give any 'average' power hitter' in the major leagues and 502 feet with an aluminum bat is childs play. Why didnt they just throw him some golf balls while they were at it. Joke.

  • @JamesMcPatrick that is a great point. but my baseball team did an experiment to see how much farther a metal bat hits it than a wood and it was only like 25 ft on average

  • Dont get me wrong, this guy looks like a stud, but you got to remember he is using an aluminum bat.....You got to take 50 to 75 feet away off that 502 ft shot. anyway you look at it, he has NY Mets written all over him!!!

  • This kid is going 1st round number one to the Nats. Pure talent smooth swing text book.

  • omg dude that swing is so butiful

  • His bat speed is faster than most major leaguers. He could have used an old hickory bat and that ball is still out of any park anywhere.

  • 420ft tops with a wood bat...he has a great looking swing tho!!

  • The kid is talented but you need to take aluminum bats away from all amateurs. Besides being extremely dangerous they give false distances and true bat speeds. Good luck kid though you are talented.

  • Yankees need him!

  • i wouldnt say the yanks NEED him cuz theyre 7 games ahead of the red sux lol but since hes a lefty with a lot of power, he would be great for that yankees and it would be AWESOME if they got him but i doubt it cuz they would have to have the number 1 pick and they are too good to get that pick.

  • i say this because they need players in the future because they dont know who will leave or who will get hurt.

  • yea true cuz we have players like matsui, damon, jeter, and posada who r gettin up in age and harper could defiantely fill in for posada with cervelli giving him breaks. also maybe put harper at 3rd and a-rod at dh occasionally wen he gets older to keep him fresh.

  • i doesnt matter the nats are gonna get him

unless he holds off for a year on the draft and the yanks get dead last next year

  • hit bat goes 105-110 mph!

    that is crazy

  • he has incredible bat speed he should stay n high school

  • no he is trying to find a way in to next years draft. he might and if the nationals stay on the same pace they might have to decide between this kid or strausburg. i would pick harper because he pitches in the 90's too so he would be a great national league pitcher but he would probably be a position player

  • So I take it he'll be the #1 unanimous pick in next years draft?

  • He won't be in next year's, he'll be in the 2011 draft and at this point he does look like the unanimous #1 pick.

  • not to take anything away because it is amazing nonetheless, but 502 off metal is much different than 502 off wood

  • actually its not as different as you wold think. metal has a bigger sweet spot but wood has a better sweet spot. the only thing metal is better with is bat speed. that 502 might be a 490-495 with wood.

  • there is a reason they do not allow aluminum bats in the majors and this is it also metal bats do provide a much more explosive jump than a wooden bat due to the fact that they are more dense and dont cushion the ball as much. the plate was also closer to the wall than regulation. still an amazing feat for a 16 yr old

  • wow
