When we do eat raw meat that is untreated such as sushimi and tartars, it is high quality meat that has been inspected and properly raised to minimize those risks. You are right about veggies of course, but raw eggs may carry disease like salmonila, there is also an issue with cholesteral. But to say cows don't have parasites is untrue.

Since we can assume she did not take a live chicken on the plane, I suppose it must have been store bought.

@kitiowa Jerky is made with a cooking process, therefore it is not raw. Rare meat is cooked, so it is not raw. Aged beef is cured and season (also maybe cooked) so it is protected. And sushi is done with high grade fish that were raised for the sole purpose of being eaten raw. Standard meat from the grocery, or meat you raise yourself, is not good. A parasite may not kill you directly, but it is still unhealthy.

@mymom48 Jerky isn't cooked. Part of the process of smoking is to make sure you don't accidently cook the meat.  Rare is browned on the outside and cool on the inside. Look into aged meats. In Italy prized aged meats are hung and you have to cut the mold off the outside like cheese. Since parasites need a living host aged meat is no more inclined to have parasites than other meat.

When any processes is used to remove the bacteria from a piece of meat that peice of meat is no longer considered raw. So jerky isn't raw meat. It is dihydrated meat. These people aren't even doing that. Aging meat is down by salting or dihydrating the meat before aging it. It does not carry paracites if done right.
