Leo's Cajun Corner is my favorite Cajun cafe..I bring back Tasso from Leo's to Mo. and freeze it. I love visiting Galveston in the winter months. This year the cold was the worst I have ever experienced in Galveston. It was only 24F@ 11Am even with clear sky and winds out of the North. RE: Feb 11 record cold. Back in Missouri was a blizzard. and -31 F in Nowatta Ok. at the end of that horrible winter event. Waterspout 9-09 100Mph. winds. I was @ Eastbeach missed the tornado oh shucks.
My family has been in Galveston since the 1900 storm occurred, and it's where I've grown up, so it's by far my favorite city in the world. thanks for posting this video :)
I was actually born on galvestan island and had alot of fun there for 7 years. i will admit anyone who goes needs and i stress needs to so to moody gardens, schiliterbahn, and of coarse La kings in the historical district. La kings is nice little Milkshake/candy shope that makes their own candy (and when they do the taffy pull you can watch) and also the milkshakes there is homemade and so good that it puts all other milkshakes to shame.
@chriswhite999 be sure to wear sunblock and be aware its very hot here in texas during the summer months i recommend the strand if you want to shop and have a few drinks .
the beach is clean enough to swim, it just looks brown because all the runoff from the Mississippi river goes down the Texas coast, it's sand and dirt, not pollution
Galveston is slowly but surely recovering from Hurricane Ike. Most of the atractions mentioned have reopened except Ashton Villa. The Lone Star Flight Museum should reopen soon. The Elissa is already open for tours. The restaurant where Kevin and Sue had lunch reopened on Friday.
Enjoyed your trip! When I lived there in the 1970s, it snowed. A couple of other places of interest are the Strand, Bishops Palace, and Sacred Heart Church.
Wow!! I remember when it snowed on Galveston. It was 1972 or 73. I was 7 yrs old and in the 2nd grade at Rosenberg elementary school. My family lived in the 3rd house in from the S.E. corner of Ball st.(ave H.) and 14th, right around the corner from Bishop's Palace. I sure hope that our old house is still standing after hurricane Ike hit! We moved from there, to a trailer park on East Bch. drive, below the seawall. I'm 43 now and live in FL. but Galveston will always be a mystical place to me!
maybe the intro should be longer.
