  • Increible :D

  • Eh, I'm saying Savatage/Trans Siberean Orchestra wins this one :/

  • @Bovolt you son of a bitch ... Epica wins all , fool !

  • @PolishPowerFilms Sooo you're telling me you haven't heard the TSO version then. I'm not saying Epica is bad, I love them, but this is a very by the mills cover of in the hall of the mountain king. A good one, but they do little to make the song their own.

As far as the insults go, I'll just mark you down as an idiot and carry on with my day.

  • This fucking rocks!

  • Thumbs up if you also can't listen to this in Spotify cause you've listened it so many times and you haven't got premium.

  • this version it's just as good as Apocalyptica's

  • Excelente banda. Despues de escuchar esto no te dan ganas de escuchar nada mas. Todo te parece de mala calidad

  • Does anyone else lose sense of their surroundings when listening to this? It's.just.so.spine.chillingly.awesome *shudders*

  • Captain! The "awesome" scale is off the charts!!

    More volume, sergeant!

    Sir yes sir!

  • BANDA EXELENTE!!!!!!

  • At 1:51 is one of the coolest pieces of music Ive ever heard. You have the slayer guitar in the background which is playing at a different beat than the main chorus. EPIC

  • Grieg would be proud....and headbangin'

  • Great song, but it's like 2 minutes intro, 1 minute action, so Apocalyptica is the winner for me! :-)

  • @redwormik well that is how Grieg originally wrote the song...the first two minutes as build up the last minute as the most BAD-ASS sounding piece of music ever!! So Epica does this song complete justice!

  • @redwormik It's meant to be a 2 minute intro, the song tells a story, the quiet section is Peer Gynts attempt to hide from the trolls and the trolls search for him, it gets quicker as the trolls find him and start to chase and the final minute is the entrance of the Mountain King himself.

Apocalypticas version completely destroys the meaning behind the song for the sake of sounding heavy.

  • @CobaltKris music isnt meant for stories, its meant for music

  • Music without story is just noise, every piece of music from pop to thrash to hip-hop to opera tells a story.

If all you can hear is noise and instruments you're missing out on the soul of so many songs.

  • @CobaltKris I guess you are right. Songs are written for a story to be told, not just to make sound.

  • @CobaltKris Ridiculous, The voice is just another instrument

  • I know? I think you've misinterpreted what I'm saying. I don't mean that songs without vocals have no soul I mean that if you listen to a piece of music and all you can hear is the instruments and not the passion, the energy, the story behind a song - you're missing out. Hall of the Mountain King is still a fantastic piece to me because if you close your eyes the arrangement is so perfect you can picture the entire scene in your head.

    That's all I mean. : )

  • @CobaltKris you dont need vocals to hear any of that.

  • You're an idiot.

  • @CobaltKris Actually, you come across as someone who's been brought to believe that vocals are a natural element in all songwriting. Vocals, although they do have a certain power of their own, just like any instrument are not at all essential. Feelings such as passion and energy can be conveyed through any instrument, including the voice, but also a wide range of instruments. You don't even need voice to hear a story.

  • @TheChibiSukei Lots of progressive music does a fine job telling a story without need of a vocalist.

Now let me challenge you for a second, is it even required to have musical instruments to convey a story, passion, or energy in a song? Is it possible to have a song using only natural, or otherwise unnatural sounds that do not come form a musical instrument? Of course it is. Music is not limited to preset combinations of instruments which may or may not have a vocalist.

  • Wagner, Beethoven, Grieg and Apocalyptica brought me here...

  • Doesn't this sound a bit like the Inspector Gadget theme?

  • @vimpyr The Inspector Gadget theme was based on this :P

  • Rock bands redoing classics? THIS is new! ;)

  • THIS IS EVEN BETTER THEN "APOCALYPTCA"'s Version..

  • Nothing beats apocalyptica's version...

  • @graboszczak85 Actually this beats the shit out of apocalypticas version.

  • YEP!

  • GET IT!

  • I miss Sonic the hedgehog ^^

  • It took a second for me to realize that this was Dovregubbens hall, which is the original title (I didn't know the English title) ^^,

  • Epic(a)

  • I'm disliking this. I couldn't hear anything after the drums kicked in.

Oh, wait, that's because my ears were blown off by the awesomeness.

  • @Rasenshuriken90 i am currently designing a game for my game design a level and one of my idea's was a sword battle to this and you had to kill the enemy before the drums kicked in =D if the drums kicked in, chances were you were about to get shredded to pieces lol

  • @Rasenshuriken90 L O L~!!!!!!!!

  • but it's the normal version

  • wow

  • thi song is just so.....awesome, i can't remember where i heard it from but it is just so god damn awesome.

  • im listening to this amazing song when i hear clapping at the end and i was like THIS IS REAL?!?!?!?!?

  • So is it just me or does almost every metal band re make a version of this song?

  • @animegirlkitten its a nice song, and all bands play it kind of different.

  • @animegirlkitten

It's because this is possibly THE original metal song.

  • @FlamingoxxxBeauty I that a challenge wait the MUSIC IT REPELS NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • started bobbing head @ 0:38. now everybody's looking at me weird.

  • you should hear Trent Reznors version...epic

  • Love the way they combine the classical elements with the more modern rock elements. Makes the music more powerful then the origian piece by Edward Grieg.

  • @ReiThaKing more powerful? not really but more robust definitely...

  • I lik this... but know I think it's asoundtrack for capitalsm... at first it start slow then a little bit more whith (like we said in germany) tam, tam... then so fast that no one realy recononice what's going on... and then stop

  • @MrAlaineRose how does that have anything to do with capitalism?

  • im proud to be norwegian when i heer this song it remainds me off the moutain on the west coast off norway:)

  • ROCK YEAH

  • Beka .;D

    Różowa Pantera,no nie?xd

  • Awesome as Apocalyptica version!!

  • Imagine walking up a hill... no jetpacking . thats the first minute of the music. now 1:02 you pull out a rocket gun... no a nuclear warhead and fire it down to the city of disgrace ..... 1:50 ..... oh my ..... 2:18 the running from the fire 2:29 buildings dissolving in pace with music ..... Glory \m/ ;D

  • @Glassmother786

I'd put a "Profit \m/" in the end, but it would be comic, not epic xD

  • have you heard of apocalyptica they have a (in my opinion)better Hall of the Mountian King.

  • @zangetsu453 Personally, I agree with you, but I think it very cool that you took the time to state that it was just an opinion.

  • 1:50 = Pure Eargasm

  • i think this and apocalyptica are tied for epicness

  • gave me fucking chills EPIC. This Rivals Apocalyptica's version in sheer awesomeness

  • pump it up? hahahahah thats so fucking coool maaan XD

  • I prefer me some Apocalyptica over this one but this is pretty good.

  • Slow...

  • goosebumps with tears of joy!!!

  • listen to the classical version, then listen to the opera version, dam the is bloody awesome, i love it, thx for uploading it.

  • Original lacked that bit which I found here. Epic!

  • Apocolyptica version is the best IMHO

  • Bass players sound is dialed in perfectly!

  • 0:00->1:52 tapping foot.... 1:52-->3:11 Pure awesomeness

  • a dumb idiot would only dislike this

  • this is no song for 240p

  • This is the same thing with a bass kick at regular intervals. :/

  • what a version of this song...I fuckin loved it :D

  • I'm a teenager and I absolutely like it! I like classical music too. :D

  • This is the theme that plays once the world domination scheme has been schemed, the warmachines are constructed and ready to be piloted, and the invasions of multiple parts of the world are slowly conquered by some mysterious Armchair General Mastermind.

Yep. You will all be ruled by the Mountain King.

  • Those of you who don't know, the theme for Inspector Gadget was taken from Grieg's Peer Gynt, In the Hall of the Mountain King

  • Genial :-D

  • besser kann man nicht klassik rock und trasch zusammenbringen ,wie epica den hummel(song) oder wie der sich nennt ,spielen einfach nur geil

  • Sounds mysterious in the beginning to me, then bright toward the middle and then finishes off with some nice controlled chaos :D

  • @gaunu Go listen to Apocalyptica playing this live.

    It's pure insanity;

The drummer uses blast beats, to classical music.

    Need I say more?

  • I feel like i'm commanding the world..

  • @TheKlisterskeag This is the soundtrack to world domination

  • :D

  • The tempo gets faster and faster .. and BAMM!

  • In the hall of the Mountain King was meant to be metal!

  • @troelsdc well it just got epicer, chuck norris would not be able to stand this sound

  • @TheTattoofreak26

This is to music what Bruce Lee was to martial arts, that's why Chucky wouldn't be able to stand it.

  • amazing

  • i want ice cream :/

  • this is fuckin awseomeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee (pedro shall die)

  • Inspector Gadget.

  • This remind anyone else of monkey island a bit? ^^

  • @mrtini12

    Actually, yes.

It does have kind of a tropical, Caribbean feeling at times.

  • All hail Classical Music!!

  • Hehehe nothing beats the classic.......nice....Epica didn't ruined the piece, its stay in a right tempo thought.

  • how could you possibly not like this song? 15 people dont appreciate the origins of music classical music was the first type of music around

  • lol i don't like how people rant about Apocalyptica. They just have Violin, Cello, and the likes of orchestra shit. Epica has that and more. Also, i must add that people shouldn't complain about covers being done because Apocalyptica do assloads of covers, many which are ok, but you can't do something justice with just a violin and cello.

  • 15 ppl dont have to change there pants cuz they obviously are deaf.

  • Damn... I gotta buy this album.

  • apocalyptica 4 life

  • @pamelaramon1 Apocalyptica didn't compose that ; it's a classical song, composed by Grieg.

  • @fluoroscopie i know i played that song on the hand bells and i didn't say that they composed the song. any way im not trying to start a argument soooo........ HEY whats up?

  • @reptilcan Actually, I think you mean 7 people WERE in the hall of the mountain king.

  • im dancing to this song in dance troup and this is better than the original song!

  • Who the fuck may dislike this?!

  • @DesertApache A deaf maybe?

  • @DesertApache nazis?!

  • @DesertApache teenagers with no taste.

  • @DesertApache 19 idiots...

  • @DesertApache mormons...

  • Blackrock Depths, during Brewfest :D

  • finalmente ho trovato questa benedetta canzone, :Q________

    STUPENDA, come me la ricordavo!

  • Comment removed

  • @madv14 this is true.

  • This should be the theme for Alton Towers in 2012 and play it outside their theme park!!!!

  • Apocalyptica does it better

  • @abeastlybeast714 I'd say they do it differently. ;)

  • oh my LIFE!!! That's just genius!!! Could Epica be more amazing?!!

  • Comment removed

  • Епика, кћери, добра си.

  • I like apocalyptica better but still a good song.

  • I like apocalyptica better but still a good song.

  • Epica isn't really the ones who made this. The Orchestra was a Hungarian Orchestra. They did the Drums, Guitar and Bass Guitar, and some Keyboards, but they had a 40 piece orchestra and a Choir.

  • @yishto They still wrote it! thats what counts!

  • @Metalflamme What? Edvard Grieg wrote this in 1875/1876. It does amaze me, however, how much metalheads appreciate good "classical" music whether they realize it or not. If you like this, listen to "The Planets" by Gustov Holst sometime. Or maybe some pipe organ stuff by J.S. Bach. Listen to the latter live if you get a chance, on a really good pipe organ it will make your ears bleed.

  • @CorneliusSneedley I mean, they wrote the guitar and oher stuff they added

  • 1:51 LET THE EPICNESS BEGIN (even though the whole thing is epic)

  • THis is the Seven Nation Army of renassance.

  • nice job Epica

  • i finally know the name of this song after many years of ignorance. finally! its so awesome!

  • @hollowpoint249 The original version is by Edvard Greig, you can find a good quality version of the song by a youtube user PACU, I believe.

  • isnt it weird how the word epica is pretty close to apocolyptica?

  • 2:51 epic breakdown point

  • @sharkmanray erm... you mean 1:51 , don't you?

  • @SilberlichtKitcat yeah i told my idiot brother to right it cause i had to go feed my rabbits

  • "You got the beeeeeest of both wooorlds"..... metal and classic, with a norwegian song... THE BEST U GET XD

  • Epica minus the - a. Stll no match to the original. But luv it

  • 214th comment.... song epic enough to make counting comments interesting enough to do so.

  • This is... Pure Epicness.
