@Christisms The Orthodox don't separate and make distinct nature and grace as the West does. Our created nature is made as a result of God's free will and is thus external to God, but it is made to be able to partake of the divine nature (God's energies). We are brought into an "internal relationship" with God through the incarnation of the Son and indwelling by the Spirit and thus share in the divine energies. However, without the Orthodox Trinity, deification is impossible.
See new series on You Tube, RESTORED APOLOGETICS: Contrasting LDS & Early Christian Versions of Deification.
Christ & the early Christians were godmakers before the LDS came along with a restored version of theosis, perfection, deification, becoming gods. I testify there's a restoration of this doctrine.
HowdyBY, If men became gods, wouldn't this start arguments and possibly fighting against God if they had equal power? Are there different ranks in godhood? This seems like a really bad idea. I prefer the idea of 1 supreme being that has power over life and death and would welcome us
If they thought like us, and behaved like us, I suppose that would be a possibility. It's seriously doubtful their thoughts are ours, or their ways are ours however.....
@GiftoAll That would be assuming that, when one partakes of the divine nature, they retain the exact same mindset that they had prior to theosis. This is absolutely not true. While the partaker of the divine nature retains his or her individuality, there is a substantial change in the very nature of his or her being in accordance with how greatly that individual exhibits his or her likeness of God. In this sense, our state of being transcends all things of temporal nature...
@neuraxianfusion ...in a manner that is incomprehensible to a mind of which the foundation is the world of becoming, 'the world', that is. God is the source of the transcendental goods, which eternally radiate from Him like the light from the sun, and are the things which we partake in when achieving theosis: Beauty, Truth, and Virtue. We do not partake in His very nature, for no man may approach the very nature of God, He would not be God otherwise! Thus why we cannot be rooted in the...
@neuraxianfusion ...temporal any longer if we are to partake in these energies, the temporal is not eternal, it only resembles God to the extent that a reflection in water resembles its source, the object. God is no object! Since God is the source of Truth, true life cannot be lived without partaking in his energies. If you would like to embrace the fullness of life, I suggest you turn to the one and only path that can provide it to you, the Incarnation of the Father's only-begotten Son, the...
@neuraxianfusion ...Word of God. This path is presented to you in his body, the Church, and the partaking of his nature in the Eucharist. There is only one Church, it cannot be divided. Find your way to an Orthodox parish immediately, for the salvation of your soul!
@neuraxianfusion A comment on this, the Church cannot be divided because the Trinity is of one essence, and thus for the Church to be the body of Christ it must resemble that which is Holy, and thus be indivisible, indissoluble, and united.
Hi Professor, I was just researching the doctrine of Theosis. I watched a video from a gentleman from an Orthodox Church, He also posted a video on they're Church's belief in Theosis. This is really opening up my eyes to a wider reality of some of the LDS Doctrines. Thanks for the video.
This review starts I think on the racial identification of God. you talk also about being "adopted into the fold" The Deification of Man I ask the Question is/are the council of the Gods made up of the Diffrent racial types, God the Father being The most "High God". I think that facsimile No 3 alludes to this in a way with the diffrent stratification of race. What do you think is God an EN- Gal- ish. Englishman :))
That one is either Geza Vermes, "The Dead Sea Scrolls in English," or else E. P. Sanders, "The Historical Figure of Jesus." I suspect it is Sanders, but it looks a little fuzzy in the vid.
Actually I can't get over it. You got a few thousand dollars worth of books and you spent a few dollars on bookshelves. You ran 3/4" spruce/pine straight with no support.
Bookshelves are like our bodies, what the body supports, is of much more importance than body itself. I think the BYP's bookshelves reflect that nicely.
I did notice that you taped your video from the corner of your bookshelf. Much straighter looking. Actually there is still a good bend to it. Jesus was a carpenter and I don't think he would approve. Just start building 3 to 4' sections with some trim structure.
Another thing I thought of when I was listening to you was that every christian believes they are the children of God. Aren't children like Parents? If our father is God then what does that make us?
I am still trying to wrap my mind around the concept of diefication. It seems to be concept that many struggle with. I wonder if it is Biblical as well.
It is definitely Biblical. That is what this entire book about "Theosis" seeks to demonstrate, is that it is Biblical and extended way into the Early Christian Church Fathers' beliefs as well.
Not trying to self-promote me, but when you go to the see all videos I have made, go to the bottom and there are page numbers? I believe the series on the Atonement starts on page 17. It's a 5 part series on the Atonement as a rite of healing..... that helps explain deification on an interesting level, I think anyway. Hope this helps. And relax, ain't none of us understand the entire concept of deification anyway. It will take more than our lifetime to do that, so no worries.
Yeah my span is too long. I shall do something different next time. Cantchta see I have way too many books to read, rather than worry about the shelves they are on? GRIN!

backyardprophesor, the way you are pronouncing Theosis is wrong, the way you are saying it sounds like,
To become like Uncle.
If you want to be taken seriously you might as well pronounce it correctly.

Aren't the words of Jesus? No man has seen the wonderous gifts that await. No angel has seen the ends of heaven, "Gods' house".
GiftoAll 2 years ago
I agree. We do not become Gods.
If Jesus wanted to let us in on the gifts the apostles would have noted them somewhere.
All that was mentioned were mansions and crowns.
