You are right. Overheating is good way to kill a dog. Notice though that much of the time I was walking. In other words the dogs did not pull me the whole distance. Also I carried water in my fanny pack. The dogs cooled off in the water hole. They stopped frequently when I set up the tripod. I watch Brett's tongue closely. When it is too long, we stop and wait until it shortens up. He drinks a lot.

He describes early agriculture in Georgia and how the gully washes became canyons and the farmers moved west after ruining their lands and then I moved to Georgia and discovered this ruined yet totally beautiful "badlands" and was amazed.

A dog easily get overheated on hot days like that. You shouldn't take them out on such a hot day but keep them in the shadow.
