because unlike everyone else he burns all of his fuel. black smoke out of a diesel is unburnt fuel & way too rich of a mixture in the combustion chanbers
It is a fuel cutout. Also, it doesn't have electronic ignition because diesel engines do not have ignitions systems. They only have injection. Things like glow plugs or heater blocks are only for starting the engine. Once the engine is hot the fuel combusts as it is injected. As I understand this truck gets a little shot of nitrous to burn all the fuel before the turbos spool. once it is boosting the nitrous phases out.
@kladivous@kladivous Not quite, diesels usually make enough exhaust gas to spool the turbo, without the need for Nitrous. Thing is, for a given amount of air at a high enough rpm, if a diesel uses too much fuel to that air, that's when the smoke starts. So modern diesels purposely don't burn as much of the air in the cylinder, but that leaves oxygen that's not being burnt, so the best thing is to inject nitrous as something to burn that "extra" air with.
high revs. Once CRD came out with somewhat higher rpms than the old diesels, they started sounding like gas cars.
i drove a diesel car in europe back in 2003 and it sounded like a diesel at idle but once you were on the highway and over 2000rpm constantly, you couldnt tell it wasnt gas.
In fact i love the purr of diesels now. Sounds so coordinated :)
it may be a diesel, but it's still an iron block, 90 degree v8 engine, being a duramax. even a diesel v8 will sound like that with just straight pipes like fully built dragster use
Dude please go do your research the Cummins is a lot better designed Diesel over the Duracrap and the Power stroke. And you can ask any person that knows Diesel's that and they will tell you the same thing I am telling you and I am a die hard Ford guy I will be honest Ford Diesel Trucks do not compare to a Dodge Ram Diesel period.
no i wouldnt.. i never said you couldnt get alotve power outve a cummins.. you can get alotve power outve anything with the right amount of money... you can have a sbc runn 1000hp easy
Yeah exactly But in the 60's when ford was getting beat my Mopar's 426CI Hemi Ford created the 427 Ci SOHC that was banned from racing in Nascar because it had way more power then the 426 Hemi. The 427 SOHC had 616HP with a 4BBL where the 426 HEMI Nascar motor only had 480HP with a 4BBL so that being said FORD did create the best BIG BLOCK V8 ever in history and one of the RAREST motors ever as well.
I know exactly what you are talking about. I would also like to say...Thunderbolt. You know what I mean.
I will also add that for has produced some of the strongest (and best sounding) smallblocks ever. Honorable mention to the 5.0L. They were always way ahead of their American rivals. You should look into the 3.0L DFV V8 Formula One engine that Ford developed in the '60s. It is no wonder that Ford is the most popular American brand worldwide.
Yeah I totally agree a fully built Ford V8 will crush a fully GM V8 any day where both motor are the the same CI range and have the same mods done to it.
dodge DID have the best diesel. The Cummins was strong back in the days of the 12 valve (1989-1998.5). The new Cummins engines are not nearly as strong or reliable. The best all around Diesel on the market today is the Duramax.
His third run he sat about 1 sec before launching. In other words that truck can run low 7s

@JesseDanielHimself That way the most amount of air possible is combusted, but without the icky-looking smoke.

Does it run standard diesel fuel or a bio blend or propane injection?

Stupid announcer. "Sounds like and internal combution engine to me". Could be because diesel engines ARE internal combustion engines.

how they hell do you get a diesel to sound like that..? sweet!
