  • awww, you didn't shine a torch on it in the dark

  • show a dick

  • Why doesnt it light up with his own light, thus beeing always lit by recursion?

  • @TheSilentwarrior99 It probably reacts only to a single wavelength, or it excludes the wavelength from the LED.

This thing seems pretty useless but engh, whatever you like.

  • Photoresistors?

  • You still need to built in a algorithm that uses the ambient light in such a way that it'll adjust the brightness accordingly. Like what modern TV's and mobile phones do (like iPhone) to adjust their screen brightness. Here it needs to adjust the brightness before it looks at the particular objects amount of light blocked.

Anyway, a very cool solution. Maybe you could make a bar or a table out of it :P that'll be cool.

  • what is this?

  • I thought it was a keyboard for a moment .... x(

  • Its would be awsome on a keyboard

  • nice, but why???

    giant nite lite :D

  • some eleds a light sensor and the equivelant of a not gate

  • Lol... what's the use of this? hahah

    very cool though..

  • AWESOME, but can you explain how it works ???

  • Very cool! :)

  • Very cool. I wonder what parts were used to make it.

  • is a photodiode ???

  • what circuit does the 4 led square use? do all the squares have a light sensor circuit in the middle? because i would really like to know how to build a 'dark' sensor

  • HAHAHAHAHA you got a nice phone i mean brick wall

  • hahahaha :D

  • Hmm... what's it good for? I don't get it.

  • i've seen those things as coffee tables. because they look futuristic.

  • ok sorry i dont get the point what is it for? any concrete usefull use of that device?

  • being awesome

  • How much did all of the cost?

  • Interesting and cool, however, an explanation of the concept would be nice. Very good though.

  • using a led matrix to sense local ambiant light and turn light diffusion device into a touch matrix. Can even be multitouch with apropriate programming. Google "led touch sensing" for more info

  • BRILLIANT!!!

  • what phone is that?!?! its awesome!

  • hello, i belive there is alot of tiny circuits doing this, not a webcam and controller. could you send me the schematic for one of the small circuits ?. i have a feeling it could be done by schmitt trigger and capacitor...

  • What if you put a mirror?

  • I bet it starts to shoot laser everywhere :D

  • fedin got logi-pwnd :P

  • yea.. not impressive... at all, the only reason y it lights up is cuz theres shadow, with out the shadow thered b no light

  • Let me see your version of it then, if it's so easy to do. Of course it lights up when there is shadow, that's the whole purpose.

  • Emo : Consider the issue that the led light reflected back to the board (from the object) is of greater intensity than basic daylight when you place an object on the board. It wouldn't stay lit - there is no shadow when you place an object on the board.

  • when the sensor detects light, it doesn't let current through the diodes. -_- sensor cannot 'detect' darkness.

  • if the light is detected by the sensor then why do the LEDs go on if you turn the light off?

  • isnt it that the sensors are detecting the shadow (they only detect light below a certain amount)

  • No, and if he says it is that way, then it still should be obvious how it works: if it turns on the leds in absense of light, then the device is programmed to turn on the leds while not detecting light: light keeps off the leds, and if it worked the other way, it will be a waste of electricity.

  • the light is detected or the shadow is?

  • FRIKONES

  • How do you stop the sensors from detecting the light emitted by the diodes?

  • He seems to use TPS615 phototransistors, which have a peak sensitivity at 800nm, and only 10% sensitivity at 470nm (blue leds are usually 450 to 470nm). This might be the reason.

  • Thank you the idea :)

  • Make a Keyboard with this technology, it would be way cool..

    I know I'd buy one..

  • Awesome, good job :D

  • What "sensor" are you using?

  • do you use some kind of delay?

  • go build a table patent it and sell it!!!. u will be richhh. rreally awesome!! nice choice of colors, red leds would probably seem errie lol. u could put it in futuristic bars and amuse the drunk people!! lol

  • scheme scheme scheme scheme !!!!!neeed!!!!

  • can u share ?

  • wow ow do u do dat
