  • wicked <<<< aha

  • ive passed them EXACT towers about 5 times seeing my cousin in sheffield, sadly he moved to austrailia now :(

  • I Can remeber them.Any1 no why they knocked them down?

  • kwl. It feels weird when i go to meadowhall shopping centre coz i was so used to seeing them, tho they were ugly, lol.

  • :(:(:(

  • its like cloverfield with no monsters! its propa bo i tell thee

  • it was a happy occasion, but sad at the same time cos they were british landmarks... everytime we drove past them on motorway, we new it was sheffield.

  • i love it when every1 is like " Whhheeeeyyyy"

all the protestors are crying and no1 else gives a hit lol!

  • why did ppl want to keep them? i drove by them twice a day for a few months to work in leeds and thought they were pretty ugly myself!

  • Thank you Carlo, Glad you like our little City ..and we love Spain just as much :)

  • I live in sheffeild and towers 2 miles from my house and i heard em

  • Aad day for some :)

  • this is cool

  • you mean eon are actually going to make another power station, so maybe 6 more towers?

  • No its a small powerstation, will not need any towers that size. It will probably burn solid 'Green' fuel.

  • why are you people clapping for?

i'm from down south and this is a sad moment!

  • down south sucks

  • fuck eon

  • bring me the horizon are from Sheffield :P

  • lol that man did u see that

    that is y there there

  • ?? Totaly lost me there

  • IF YOU LOVE SHEFFIELD, NAME ONE THING THAT IS BETTER THAN THE TOWERS, show me how its a great place to live. Otherwise, I will take it that Sheffield is a skidmark on Yorkshire.

  • This local pride is what makes Sheffield a singularly indie town. The Arctic Monkeys' recent success must be at least partly down to their blatantly grassroots style, composed of local accent, observations and attitude. There's hundreds of young bands (of varying quality) flying the flag for a music scene that's still evolving from the electro explosion of the 70s and 80s (Cabaret Voltaire, The Human League, ABC),

  • No issues at all, I just think its fascinating that people are claiming that they are the best thing in Sheffield! Surely, there is something better to offer than the towers.

  • Sheffield is one of those places that the locals adore with a passion - just have a listen to Pulp's "Sheffield Sex City" -

  • If this is all you have to be proud of, and you have all lost your identity. Time to move on.

Don't you realise, that for everyone else in the country it simbolised 'Shit hole Sheffield' which is underlined by the fact that most of you losers are claiming they were the 'best thing in Sheffield'. Why stop at the towers, blow the rest of it up, everywhere between Barnsley and Mansfield. Level the crime ridden, puss infected blot Yorkshire!

  • Hope you next sh*t is an Hedgehog !!

  • The town centre's pretty small and constantly being worked on. It doesn't put on a show, or have the parade of flashy shops and bars you might find in Leeds or Manchester, although the council is trying to regenerate in this style, and to be fair, there's always something new to discover. The best thing about Sheffield is that it's in touch with its roots. The brand new Millennium Galleries has a room dedicated to steel craftsmanship

  • HOW RUDE

  • The way most of you are talking, E.on blew up all of Sheffield. It was cooling towers, they were just wallpaper. If you are so passionate about them, post back and tell me that they have pictures at home with their kids in them. Don't be daft, it was 6000 tons of unsafe concrete. I wish I had been the one to push the button to start the count down, I would be proud to tell you that I did it and tell you all to fuck off and go and worship at the bottom of an old lamp post and call it home.

  • You seem to have issues!! Anger management advised :)

  • They were old and falling down anyway. Better this way than falling on a rush-hour M1

  • Another Landmark gone for good what they goin to put in its place another tesco??

  • Nope, a 60m green power plant.

  • Hehe ..I bet they are looking at it ..lol

  • How can you clap you bastards?

What's our landmark going to be now? Meadowfuckinghall. Sheffield is a place of industry not bloody shopping.

  • i live in north wales. iv got mates in sheffield who came to see us the day after they were blown up and they said then they go home its not gunna be the same. they said thats when they saw the towers they knew they were home =] so i know how it feels for some of ya.

  • I agree with ladyblade, i used to live near them, i walked past them when sheffield was flooded. And the best part about them was that they marked sheffield, coming home from a holiday, or even after a day of school or just back to the city when i saw them i knew i was home, its going to be so differnt looking out my window and not seeing them anymore. And how stupid is your question Stunic???? They would never contemplate bringing down medowhall so why fucking ask? Dick

  • Meadowhall is your new landmark.

Quit bitching about bringing down the towers. Its called progress. You have your shopping centre as a replacement landmark.

  • Can I just ask , where are you from ?? as you obviously don't like Sheffield :(

  • Drive through every day, work in Nottingham.

  • i'm happy it was finally demolished it kept blocking the road and taking up valuable space

anything that doesn't work should be ditched.

  • I don't know how yet but somebody will definitely find a connection between this and 9/11 :))))

  • Cant wait till you call me E.ON for electricity will tell you when you put TINSLEY TOWERS back then i will switch to you and that will never happen not never not in a million years.E.ON you have UPSET LOTS OF SHEFFIELDERS hope your happy with your self as in the Newspaper. Its a act of Historical Vandalism you have ruined what we had us SHEFFIELDERS we knew we was home TINSLEY TOWERS was apart of Sheffield even though you said they was unstable what a load of CRAP..E.ON WELL DONE I APPLAUDE YOU

  • Well Said :)

  • I appreciate how passionate everyone is about the towers, I understand the local identity that they provide. If you had to make a choice, bring down the towers, or, blow up Meadowhall... Which would you choose? please respond and be honest...

  • blow up meadow hall bloody hate the place just attracts out of towner's not true Sheffield grit

  • Can't wait for the replies......

  • did anyone else call them salt and pepper? lol.

  • I did ..and I think quite a few others did too :)

  • i really wish they had come down on the via duct and cost the government a fortune fixing the m1, cant believe there gone rip sheffield

  • LOL- Just been down there again about 5'ish- Took loads of stills, it's amazing how thin the walls were (a foot at most). I doubt if they would have made much impact on the bridge.

  • I too was stunned by that...you would never had thought it when they were up

  • It would have been a major news story had it done that ...I think the French Company EON would have to pay for it had it done that, as they owned the towers ....

  • It would have actually been the demolition contractors insurers, not E-on.

  • As long as it's not us poor sods that have to pick up the bill :)

  • Max, E.ON are a German company, EDF are french,

  • i was there at the over side from this dude

  • Cool ..good company!!

  • I like your commentary. Ever thought about tv work? Will miss the towers though.

  • Hehe ..thanks I did actually work in Media Production one time :)

  • now you are being very sad grow up looser

  • Not the best plan i have heard !!

  • when i used to drive from the midlands to Leeds, when i went past them i knew i didn't have much further to go. oh well. i live in china now so it isn't really going to make much difference to my driving habits now is it

  • Welcome my Chinese friend, and yes we will all miss them :( Hope you enjoyed the games :)

  • woooooooo! was this on meadaz road?? COZ I WAS THERE!!! lol

i do seriously hope E.ON get whats comin to them though Ficken Arsch!! i gatherd itd sound nicer in German haha! XD

  • Yep :) we was at the top of the road cold and wet but well worth the wait

  • lol it looks by the looks of it that you were near me coz i was in that part! i still cant believe they blew them up! :(

  • what you mean "historic" - they were doing nothing for nobody. if they were so special why didn't they have a gift shop or guided tour aruond the towers??? great vid, i think i was stood about 10 yards to your left :p

  • Small world :) Would have been nice to have made it into an event with fireworks etc :)

  • its an historic landmark and the people who mdemolished it are gay and should go to hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and whoever was chearing are fat idiots too because its not funny or anything to celebrate.

  • dam e.on

  • tuk fukin big sheff only land mark away fukin WANKERS but good vid

  • Thanks Furnessboy ..I have just uploaded some new footage ..might be worth a look :)

  • I agree dvdburn, but we have to look for our new landmark now :(

I suppose development is in the company's interests isn't it...

  • Damn thats an even better view than me!

I've been past Meadowhell today and felt more than a little watery substance come to my eyes (had a beer or 2 and can't think how to spell, nearly put a little tyre came to my eyes) - (oh yeh tear -mez a noob head) E-on better live up to their promise and build a gateway to the North Replacement!

  • Can't help but agree with you 100% In the daylight it looks much more upsetting :(

  • i was like stood there :L

    further back tho

  • Cool :)

  • The disused 250 ft high Tinsley Towers - a few metres from the side of the M1 between Sheffield and Rotherham - were demolished by power company E.on,

But the destruction did not go totally according to plan

When the dust cleared around a third of the North Tower remained standing and another blast had to be carried out to finish off the demolition.

The company now has to remove around 6,000 tons of rubble

  • Damn thats an even better view than me!

  • wow u had a good view of the demolition. i was in debenhams car park so a bit further away.

  • Thanks ..nice to see so many people come out to see it :)

  • its r8 sad ill miss them

  • Yes ...me too Shame we had to loose them

  • mehmeh!!

i loved them salt n pepper shakers :(

    r.i.p :P

    kinda sucks tbh.

nowt to look at when were off to meadowhall ;///

    gunna miss em.

    sad i know :P

  • Yes, so many people grew to love them ...a sad night :(

  • How anyone can cheer, when they have just destroyed part of the history of Sheffield is beyond me. They were never an eyesore, they were a land mark for thousands of people. I for one will miss them!!

  • You can only take solice in being there to see the end , and be part of the history

  • After years of debate, the end finaly came :( a sad moment for all in Sheffield and Rotherham. I have seen the towers there for so many years, no matter what they put in its place i can't ever be the same .

  • sad to see em go =(

  • Me too :(
