Congratulations South Africa!, in my country (Argentina) we still have 40 years old diesel trains and yesterday 9 people fall down from a train here because they were travelling in the step (of the train) because there was no room for all the people, embarrasing,it´s a shame this and also dangerous, i would like trains like the one in the video.Sorry for my english
@gerajmar Do not take it as a provocation, but on the contrary, I begin to miss the old trains. I prefer diesel trains that are just quietly move landscape speeds, say 100 km / h. I take the train journey as an experience, not only as a move from point A to point B.
I dont think this is a "high-speed" train. This is an Electorstar unit which is so typical on commuter routes around London, I went on one this morning ;)
@okaaaiiiden the britain trains are lot better than american trains, the american trains are more shit than britain, the Eurostar are the fastest ttrain on britain tracks and the only HSR that croses oceans.
The train is closely based on 100mph (160kmh) commuter trains that run in the UK. This is an outer suburban commuter railway rather than a high speed railway - a great achievement for South Africa.
@RobertsDigital The problem is not that Americans don't want high speed rail. It's that American railways are poorly suited for it. Remember, the U.S. is one of largest countries in the world in terms of size. Electrification is something that only the East Coast really embraced, and that's because cities are relatively close together. In the Midwest and West Coast. Major cities are separated by deserts, making Electrification rather difficult.
@blastingcap0 Which means that the main other alternative is Aviation, and even there the infrastructure is behind. Well, some airports are getting better (SFX notably), but the rest are always suffering from some chronic delays. Which means that the US need not worry about its trains, but rather about its air system and airports...
Come on dudes, look its not that fast, I mean my mommas MPV has a higher top speed. But its a start, look at it this way, my nation is leading technological progress in Africa. We might upgrade to Maglev in a few decade or so, who knows?? Siyavaya! IM PROUD TO BE SOUTH AFRICAN!!
@themusicgalaxy Depends what you call fast. Take the American Acela Express, while it can reach top speeds of 240 kph it only manages an average of 110 due to having to use old tracks.
@sjnath Yes,Bombardier(don`t pronans the last word R,it`s french :) ) Bombardier is the biggest company for rail technic after buying Adtranz factoris in Europe
This is pathetic compared to the TGV, ICE Velaro and CRH3/5.
180kph looks like the fastest this train can go from what I was able to see on the panel. That's NOTHING to say 320-350kph that European and Asian trains can travel at.
@Reichsfuhrer1979 ewww such ignorance coming from illiterate working class isn't surprising to me. you make me ashamed to be white! please my fellow african brothers and sisters don't respond to him or her! it isn't worth your time!
I am ashamed that you are white. Filthy wog-socket. Why do you associate such "negative" connotations to the working class though? While I am sure mummy and daddy paid for you to have the finest whites-only private education, do you not think your own prejudice is a little ripe? Or are you suffering guilt because of what happened on your family plantation in the past?
my freind shot the fuck up , if your family was brutally killed by this ignorant basted muslim in the north nigeria then you should understand the fuck why they have to be fucking executed like animals , cuz they are animals in humans fresh, 2twice i say they are animals in human flesh. so go get a better job to do that to fucking come to the internet 2 show your ugly face. go suck a dick nigga"

You have to change the title 160 km/h is only a medium speed train.
High speed train is at least 200 km/h.
But i'm glad we'll finally have a high speed rail up to at least 250 km/h.

It looks kind of similar to the "electrostar" family of trains we have here, but with different front ends.

High-speed train in South Africa?? LOL
More like SLOW-SPEED train.
Omithy 1 year ago
@Omithy Yes, but a standard gauge system will form the embyo of a future high speed network. Narrow gauge means 120km/h which is not enough

100mph (160km) is hardly 'High Speed'
simpletimes222 1 year ago
@simpletimes222 yeah i thought it had to be 200km a hour to be highspeed, like comeon Japan was going like 230km a hour in the 60's
billnyethe1742 1 year ago
@simpletimes222
Correct, it has to be 150mph + to be considered high speed rail.
