I had an amc spirit with a 4.2l the thing of it is your all talking the same engine the difference is the head with multi-port fuel injection. Infact if you want you can take the head off the spirit engine and get one with the injectors and computer out of one of the ones from the jeep. It's really not a big deal except the spirit engine has a better bottom end as far as i am told, so with the combination of the two you get more horsepower.
Amc always had the 4.2 motor !!The 4 litre was a redisigned engine when Renault bought the company! Most bottom end parts work with either! The 4 litre head was once again an Amc design and was so much superior to the previous ones! The 4.0 motor was a redisign on a some what lighter bottom end!
@tazdevilman1 The AMC "4.0" was a 258, and there never was an AMC "4.2". When Chrysler bought Jeep they got AMC in the package. Chrysler carried the AMC 258 into the Jeep line as the "4.0". What is it when uninformed people label AMC as MoPar, Pontiac, Ford...blah, blah, blah. AMC didn't have deep pockets to make small parts, like distributors, so the bought from Prestolite just like GM did. They never had GM distributors. So read up and you might be surprised!
@cbxsage btw great job to the poster nice car from an "informed" previous amc spirit owner. 1982 amc spirit 4.2l 258 ci. I used to blow the doors off 5.0L mustangs what a car.
@tazdevilman1 Yeah, I was always a fan of Clifford Research "Six + Eight" equipment. I also never underestimated the 258! There's no better pay-off than a Rambler/Kelvinator mowing down the competition. I used to say I had "the fastest refrigerator in town!" And that was only my 14.30's Pacer with a (you guessed it) 4.2L SIX CYLINDER slug! It idled quiet and with no perceivable lope, no body ever thought it was anything, that is until the Holley 390 opened it's mouth and roared like a lion!
TurboAmc, is that efi or blowthru carb ? Also I don't see any widebands or egt pyros in the car and are you data logging on a standalone . Just wondering . Awsome to see other turbo guys with USA muscle.

EFI, it's the same 4.0 used in jeeps. He's also using Megasquirt to tune his car.
