I'm Catholic, but I personally think this whole thing about Michigan letting crazed fear-mongering hate-spewing ultra-conservative fundamentalist Christians (aka people full of crap) do what they want to others as long as they're backed up by their twisted "religious" beliefs is absolutely ludicrous. George Washington and the other Founding Fathers must be VERY displeased with our current state of government.
@TheHigherVoltage That's your interpretation. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. To be honest, nothing is what it appears to be. For all we know, we may have been created by interdimensional beings, and, once we die, we keep on hopping between dimensions. Besides, I don't think anything extolling peace, love, kindness, and camaraderie can be evil in nature. If it was, then I wouldn't be a part of it.
@TheHigherVoltage FYI, I know full well of the Church's history, what you are doing is committing the fallacy of judging something based on the stupid actions of imperfect humans rather than the ideology itself. It's like trying to judge communism based on the actions of bloodthirsty dictators like Joseph Stalin and Pol Pot. It just doesn't work.
@KingdomHeartsBrawler I judge the biblecults on the bible, just as I judge the qurancults on the quran, and the vedascult on the vedas. The Abrahamics are psychotic.
We're born not the way we're suppose to be, and a God wants us to pawn any and all punishment evil people deserve on a scapegoat.
Christianity teaches injustice as justice, hate as love, self-hatred as salvation, and mindless obedience as righteousness. It's backwards.
If your info was philosophy, you'd have known this already.
@TheHigherVoltage Judging by your comments and your pathetic attempts to tell me that I'm "wrong" in my basic beliefs, you must be one of those militant atheist types (though I could be wrong)... perfect. I love toying with imbeciles like you. ;) You constantly try to say that you are the paragon of reason, yet you are no better than the ultra-conservative fundamentalist religious nuts you so love to bash.
@TheHigherVoltage In addition, if you're wondering why Christians and Muslims can't seem to stop killing each other (they've stopped for a while now, actually), it's because they are being manipulated by greedy power-hungry leaders, not because they're being "brainwashed" by some "corrupt" ideology. Besides, unlike most religious people, I think outside the box and take most of my information from science and philosphy. ;)
@KingdomHeartsBrawler And really? Christians and Muslims haven't killed each other in a while? I guess 9/11, Iraq and Afgan, the bombings in Europe just hasn't been going on for the last 10 years.
@TheHigherVoltage Here's why. You, like the ultra-conservatives, are so staunch in your position that you'll blindly adhere to your "principles", believe everyone else is wrong (and condemn them, possibly), and bellitle everyone else for having opposing beliefs. It's biased people like you who are so drowned in the muck of faux reason (again, like the ultra-conservatives) that serve as the bane of soceity, not moderate believers like me.
@KingdomHeartsBrawler The main principal of Gospels : "Anyone who doesn't accept Jesus's word as the final word of God, is evil, following evil, possessed by evil and an enemy of God"
The main principal of the the Qur'an "Anyone who doesn't accept Mohammad as the final word of God, is evil, following evil, possessed by evil and an enemy of God"
And these 2 schizophrenic cults are suppose to get along because.....?
Moderates are the powerbase for the fundies. Most moderates I know are fine with 'live and let live'. And on Sundays, a portion of their donations is funneled to organizations that work to stamp out everyone else.
This isn't hard to understand - moderates are the financial, social, and political powerbase for fundamentalist initiatives.
@KingdomHeartsBrawler "You, like the ultra-conservatives, are so staunch in your position that you'll blindly adhere to your "principles", believe everyone else is wrong (and condemn them, possibly), and bellitle everyone else for having opposing beliefs."
Nice strawmannig projectionism!
My personal opinions do not come into play when evaluating evidence. The only agenda I have is figuring out the truth of things, and change my evaluations with any new, valid evidence.
@TheHigherVoltage Quite frankly, I do apply that principle. I look at things objectively. Another thing, as well, is that just because I believe in God and do things how I do them doesn't mean I'm giving other people power. I set my own limits, and I give myself my own power. Besides, this "conversation" is getting stale (most of your comments were nitpicks anyway). Bottom line - I'm a regular moderate Catholic, you are undetermined... live with it.
@KingdomHeartsBrawler " is that just because I believe in God and do things how I do them doesn't mean I'm giving other people power."..." I'm a regular moderate Catholic"
If you give the Catholic church money, you are giving them power.
If you defend the Catholic church, you are defending their power.
@TheHigherVoltage First off, I don't give the Church money. I don't give anything during the Offeratory part with the baskets. Secondly, I'm not defending the Church, I'm just defending the fact that I personally believe in God.
@TheHigherVoltage Ironically, it seems you take religion far more seriously than I do. When it comes to religion, I just worry about me, not any other organizations. With politics, however, that's a different story. Perhaps we can talk about that instead. ;)
@TheHigherVoltage One last retort, before I let this sink into your seemingly thick-headed skull, my friend. When was the last time the Church has actually declared holy war with Muslims and followed through with it (Pope Benedict doesn't count. He's some crazy old Nazi who has nothing good to say). Besides, it would be best if one looked at the big picture from an objective, balanced point of view (like I do).
@KingdomHeartsBrawler Simple question : how many Christian organizations do you know that declare "Let's get along with Muslims and accept their religion as 'ok with Jesus".
I know many moderates that say this, but the churches they give money to do not.
Which Christian sect - be it Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical, Eastern Orthodox - any of the major branches - that do not demonize Islam?...or other Christian sects for that matter?
@TheHigherVoltage You know what? I've grown tired of talking about this nonsense dealing with the warring religions and stuff. Your own belief is what matters, not some crap that factions try to pull on each other. It seems you think I'm some religious activist; I'm not. I mean, this whole argument started with me saying that I'm against homosexual bias. Why did you think that this is an opening for you to attack me? We don't even know each other.
Seems to me that law will work both ways. My sincerely held moral conviction is that believers abdicate their reason and are deluded ignoramuses who excuse their reprehensible behaviour towards their fellow beings because some psychotic ignorant idiot wrote down some of his dreams about how the world will be a better place if we can just get rid of all the people that they didn't like.
The Atheist would be covered by "moral conviction" right? My deeply held moral conviction is that anyone wearing a symbol of an execution device around their neck or on their clothing is a complete idiot and potential threat to society.
He,s back, and were all better off for it. Keep pointing out this absurd shit, but the Creatards are so entrenched in our local systems that its almost impossible to pry the fucker loose form the education system and the varrious local boards that America has signed its own decline. These ignorant bastards ignore sience and sanity and take the rest of us down with the ship.
@SiriusMined Or we could have Pastafarians start bullying midgets, as the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster pokes fun at little people a couple of times.
@TheBarkingAtheist You know mate, it's not that you are completely wrong, but your age is showing in your heightened aggressiveness and intolerance on differing opinions. You are also very dismissive.
Yahweh doesn't like gays, that's why he fell out of grace from the flying spaghetti monster, creator of the multiverse. Everyone who beliefs and follows Yahweh will go to hell while gay people will go to heaven to join the Lord and his boyfriend the hot lasagna monster. Voila, a new religion that allows you, under Michigan law, to make fun of Christians who dislike gays. And this religion is as valid as all the others in the world... LOL
I thought that first amendment laws were on a national level. Freedom of speech does have limits and you can not go around yelling obscenities at people. Calling a person a faggot and saying that they are going to hell is horribly offensive and should not be tolerated in a school. If I was abused in a school and nothing happened I would take the issue to the courts.
@Chaoitcme It's not the fact that it's offensive, no one has freedom from offence, it's the fact that a lot of the time is that these unfortunate kids are harassed by horrible anti gay bigots.
There are situations in which freedom of speech must be limited. A school environment is obviously one of them. I want to go to a Michigan school and just yell at some black kid that I think all black people are going to hell because the flying spaghetti monster told me.
@crankycactus He lives there?! I thought he just lived in a pile of the money he's scammed off of people out in some distant galaxy. Now that I know he is less than twenty-million light years away, I must end my life honourably the way of a Japanese soldier.
@TheBarkingAtheist What I find absurd is when people argue that Gays want special treatment from bullying. Which is an interesting label for harassment, that teaches our children what exactly? That what would get them fired or even arrested as adults, is somehow acceptable? Why, Freedom of speech? because we give Children the freedom to drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes right?
Moreover, they are allowed a freedom of speech that isn't extended to the teachers.
@TheBarkingAtheist you can tell them there dumb idiots all you like for believing in god but you would have to git 25000 people to sign a petition and build a building wasting more tax payers money
@TheBarkingAtheist Nah man, I mean we make ourselves a religion so we can tell fundie Christians that they're fucking idiots and then use this new rule to defend ourselves.

@KingdomHeartsBrawler That's not an interpretation so much as factual reality.
Full of crap : Transubstantiation.
Evil : how many pedophile priests?
Dangerous : I've read up on Christian rule in the Dark Ages. You should to.
"Besides, I don't think anything extolling peace, love, kindness, and camaraderie can be evil in nature. "
And I don't think the pitch ever matches the product.
Any reason why two religions of 'love and peace' (Christianity and Islam) can't stop killing each other?
