  • Listen to the introduction - it's got nothing to do with smoking anything!

  • I use to love this song in Kindergarten and my teacher would play it during naptime. It was so peaceful. Now I found it is about smoking weed. lol. not very appropriate now.

  • Fond memories of this song, my uncle had it on a 45 when I used to stay at my nans place when I was a kid - still love the song and the uncle

  • I hope I look like Peter Yarrow in this video when I'm old

  • This song kindna have a different meaning to me now? When i was young boy it kindna like a nursery rhyme for me.. But now why is it like....

  • When I was younger the song was about growing up.

Now I have grandchildren and it is about how privileged I am to be with them and see them grow up

  • Puff the magic dragon is a KITE.. a kite...

  • this brought tears to my eyes

  • My favorite song as a child..

  • I truly believe this song will never die. My grandfather sang this to my dad, as my father sang this to me, as i will sing it to my children one day. Saddest thing i ever seen was my grandfather singing this song at my father's funeral when he lost his battle with cancer. It was truly sad to watch a father bury his own son, but also a beautiful way to pay tribute. I just wanna say that i'll see you sometime soon father, but not today.

  • :")

  • OMG, i just found this song!! my grandma had the tape and used ton play it for me and my brother when we were little! I have always known this song by heart, and now i remember why!!!

  • Justin Bieber created 66 accounts

  • this song was the first song my children loved. once, when our oldest son was a very sick baby, and needed to go to the ER. the only thing that calmed him on that wild, night drive was being cuddled, while this song was crooned to him. at the ER, they needed a blood sample, and the poor lil babe was even more afraid. but as i held him, i became aware everyone in the room was singing it along with me and my husband....i tear up, every time i hear this now, remembering that night.

  • 66 still believe this song is about weed.

  • @LOTRsuck i do too

  • Even after all these years, Peter Paul and Mary are still the greatest folk singers the ever. I can sit and listen to them for hours. They made folk songs fun.

  • @TheFanboy115 I think you mean Peter Yarrow, the other on is called Noel but that didn't sound right so he swapped it with his middle name, Paul.

  • guess who is puffing the magic dragon ^>this guy<^ :D

  • I remeber this song so fondly as a little boy at the time - I hated that Jakie had to grow up - Such a great way to put it!

  • im mean i guess they could have been telling the truth but considering the time that the song was written, i would say it may have had a different meaning at first.....

  • My folks taped this exact concert off TV. It's with our other Christmas specials. So, even though it has nothing to do with Christmas, we watch it every year at that time.<3

  • I CHOOSE to see this song as a song about growing up, becoming an adult, leaving your childhood behind... when I was a child I spoke as a child. If you CHOOSE to see it as a "drug" song that's fine and that's your decision and I have no beef with that. Life's all about choices and I guess mine are a little more innocent, and at over 50 years-old I'm still trying to hang on to my innocent childhood!!

  • @Tampaparrotthead

My mom love this song so much.

That's why my name is Puff.

So, I won't see it as a drug song.

I'm very happy after I read your comment.

    p.s. I'm not keen on using English. ^ ^"

  • @puffelectone I'm glad that my post made you happy, and your English is just fine... your message came across as clear as it could possibly be. Thanks for he reply... TPH

  • haha meet the parents

  • At the beginning he says there lived a ----- dragon. What does he say??

  • @Berron910 "Once upon a time there lived a much-maligned dragon" Ha! Ha!

  • I used to know twins named Peter and Paul and they had a sister named Tess

  • 61 people are bullshit!!!

    this is the great song

  • Like Puff she will.

  • my boy will be same?

  • This song brings sooo many memories back, 3rd time i hear this song, 3rd time a tear falls:) Mary, we will never forget you. Love this song :-) I hope we'll never forget this fantastic song!

  • I liked how he just them it wasn't about drugs.

  • Their all still alive? Good people bad times good people

  • my song

  • Thank you for this fantastic flashback! I have an incredibly bad memory, and now after watching this, it's no wonder that I grew up the way I did! :)

  • I am 38 and I have seen them 2 times in concert. I have been too many concerts, ozzy, metallica, The Met Opera and many others and they were the greatesst thig I have ever seen live

  • I remember when I was little and Peter, Paul and Mary would have their annual concert on PBS. I used to love watching them. I really miss that.

  • @justbradshaw I remember that too! It made the annoying fundraiser part worth watching.

  • Just saw Peter and Paul in concert. They are amazing musicians. You can tell they miss Mary. When they played Puff it turned into a giant sing-along. Fun concert.

  • 2:54 girl in red thought it was still about pot...

  • Looks like 60 people took this song the wrong way and got high

  • @thecomplex2011 It can mean whatever the hell you want it to.

  • @thecomplex2011 hell i was already high

  • Mary did NOT age verry well. Not very well at all...

  • After three tours in Vietnam and a world of living, I still call out Puff's name and look for Unicorns. A Dragon lives forever and so do little boys, if you want them to. Don't ever give up your youth or your dreams. PP & Mary( God be with you Mary, the angels already are) gave us many sides of life, both good and bad. Take from this and grow and be good, for the World needs good people...

  • what the hell? turn on my computer to this, and the first comment i see is "rest in peace mary." which is my name...? HAHA. WELL HAPPY EASTER, lmao.

  • Vale MARY always in our hearts ... RIP xxx we ALL know who 'Puff' was ... lol thank YOU ...

  • a song for both children and adults, with different meaning, what a time to be an American.

  • so sad.. i LOVE IT xD

  • I just want to cry. sooo bad.

  • A guy named Lipton wrote it but shared the credit with Yarrow for some help.

  • Crazy people think this song is about drugs.

  • @234sirhc i'ts all about drugs/ weed. the dragon is called "puff" he's "magic". kid's name is jackie paper. the song is all mellow and happy. it's all colorful and mysterious. it's like alice in wonderland. both are children stories and when you are kids but when you get older you start to see it has drug references making it cross generation songs. evil but smart marketing ploy. this song is for children and stoners. hahahahaha

  • @mouse334 you might think that but you are dead wrong. the song itself is about children and as they grow older they lose that innocence which makes them children. And imaginary friends give way to different things. Its more about the death of youth and innocent then about drugs.

  • @DrAchO2 he means it became like that when people began to critizize about it T_t

  • @Arthos455 thanks for the clarification

  • @DrAchO2 i like horses 0-o

  • @Arthos455 Nice to know that my friend

  • @DrAchO2 CLARIFICATION APPROVED!

  • Indeed Peter Yarrow wrote the song! Paul Stookey got the flak for singing it! I guess this proves how narrow minded people can be.

  • Oh wow, I love this song! I haven't heard it in a long time! ^_^

  • awwww it's long time ago as i puffed the magic dragon.... :)

  • I like Puff :D

  • I still get tears in my eyes over this, my mother ruined me.

  • wow, now they're old but the magic dragon is still famous

  • wow, now they're old but the magic dragon is still famous

  • aww god

  • takes me back to my childhood

  • I absolutely love this song! It always makes me cry! (In a happy way)

It reminds of being a small kid. It's a very pure and peaceful feeling. :)

Thank you Peter Paul & Mary for being such a magical and unforgettable part of my life and ultimately a part of me. Bless you.

  • 60 people had problems rolling Puff into Jackie Paper

  • 2:55 .....those kids in the audience are baked

  • @magua4 lol, they actually look baked aswell

  • hehe, i wanna puff the magic dragon :D

  • my dad alsways sang that song to me when i was a little child <3

    i love it *-* <33

it's still one of my favourite songs

  • Some years back Paul Stookey got into some trouble as so-called Music critics thought this song was about being on Drugs! What a crock! What it is is a song about a young boy leaving his childhood and his toys behind and becoming a man!

  • @RDK860 I agree! (However, one small correction - Paul Stookey didn't write the song. It was Peter Yarrow.) :)

  • this song's still in my heart and will be forever.

  • i feel like a little kid again

  • <3

    R.I.P. Mary

  • How moved by this movie... this is my origin, this is the American folk song!

Puff is the best of my favorite American folk songs.

    I found it again.

  • i cnt hear :(

  • when Puff roared out his name! - hi, i'm puff... xD

  • @Kaffeebaum LOL!!

  • Love this song!

  • i grew up to their music in the 60's, they will always be a part of my life, i will never forget what it did for my life, PP and M, you will be missed by many

  • these three must have blazed some fatties after these shows!

  • Mary is now with Puff in the Land called Honalee

  • hes good

  • WOW! I LOVEEE IT!

  • Magic

  • When was that? what year?

  • it sends shivers down my spine and as a child i never thought of it as a song about drug use and even when ppl said it was i never believed them its about the loss of childhood innocence

  • this is a good song

  • RIP MARY!

  • This song is just amazing and if u dont lik eit u just have no taste it tells a wonderfull story

  • You know... not only is this just a song about the loss of childhood innocence... But if you pay attention to the last part of the song it seems also to be about the death of an "imaginary" friend... How once "forgotten" Puff seems to literally fall apart and die... Kinda deep if you really think about it

  • @DarkWolf77 But, now they've added the "present tense" line about Puff still being alive, in my opinion, waiting for another little boy or girl.

  • @cooltooth112 excellent interpretation!!

  • It makes me want to cry because it's morning the loss of childhood innocence and imagination, which is such precious, precious thing. As a parent it's twice as sad because you mourn the loss of your own, but worse, is to know your kids will loose theirs. And once you wander to far from Honalee, you can never return. It is a beautiful song though.

  • im only 18 so i don't know much about this group and the legacy they left behind. but i would have loved to sit through this song. its utterly beautiful!

  • which came fist the song or video? did they mean it to have to do with pot nd crap wen they made it?

  • @TheKatie111555 well of course they made the video before they sung it live in front of a live audience without autotune and electronic processing. Did you even listen to the intro?

  • When ever parents sing this pure and gentle song of innocence to their children, you will always be standing behind them Mary, looking on. You will always live.

  • i rimember this grate from robotruss

  • i remember when i sang this song when i was in school and i wanna go back i miss there i always cry when i hear this song becuz i remember all the memories i had

  • does anyone know what year this was?

  • how can u u say this song got notthing to do with weed huh ???

  • @iandragon Puff is the dragon if you would seen the cartoon you would know.

  • @iandragon Because the person that wrote it says as much in this very video. You idiot.
