Great staged rendition. Still I think this song is an inside songwriting trade joke proving that one can still get a hit in the 1960's just by rhyming June, Moon, and Spoon, just like in old old days.
Wonder if there was a bet riding on it? In a couple of spots here Midler seems to indicate that she does not take these words too seriously as well, but as she says at the start of this show she will do anything for her art, .. or her bust.
@57timmyb I did too, and I was over awed...wow what a performance (the trilogy of songs that she did this in)
I remember her singing soda and a souvenir sitting on the stage edge within reach of people and she just charmed and made us all feel like "once in a lifetime" experience
So glad to find this on YouTube. I remember how stunned we were when it was first aired. The image of her in the opening has stuck with me all these years. So beautiful.
This concert ends with a twenty, twenty five minute set that I think defines this great American artist. The whole show is sensational but the last 20 minutes is breathtaking.

Was fortunate to see Miss M perform this in concert in the 80's and I loved it and hoped she'd record it.
