  • I interpret this as ode to every day blue collar man working hard to make it. I think they put too much makeup on him for this performance, but I love his David Byrne style robotic style. For the longest time I thought the lyric was "studied mortal flaws" instead of "marble flaws". My favorite cut off of this album.

  • @carreenw I see you really like Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music. I saw this in Cleveland. Ferry, opened the Manifesto Show with this 1979. It was fantastic. Bryan Ferry, tall and lanky with the red suit. Yes, his movements are odd. They are strange and Ferry admits he can not 'move' but I've always liked them going back to the first time I saw the band 1974 long before David Byrne showed up.Byrne, owes a lot to Bryan Ferry..

  • The reason for the split? Class divisions.. Ferry was so up his own arse that his son became a cunt from a sperm..

  • How can you dislike this ?

  • What an inspirational band.

  • There's a different single version of this song (flip side of Over You). It's shorter and, as I remember it, better. Can anyone post that version?

  • @jeehannes I'm trying to find it too! I think it might be on the Thrill of It All boxset... might be able to get a used copy pretty cheap.

  • Music on the horn? Really?

  • Little slice of time from the 79 Manifesto Tour. Powerful tune. Powerful suit. Probably influenced/inspired Michael Jackson.

  • hk459: might be a workers manifesto!

  • fuckin greatest artistic musician eva in my opinion. bryan ferry is the epitome of transferring his art into musical form he is the einstein of avant garde

  • one of the first ROXY albums I bought.... right after For Your Pleasure. brilliant!

  • The best British band ever

  • Got the tweezed eyebrows in this one!

  • its me,or the "man that drives the hammer" has a sexual innuendo on it?..

  • fantastic

  • OMG!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I also saw them do this at the Liverpool Empire in 1979. I'm sure they opened the gig with it. Then on to the Checkmate in town.

  • what kind of headphones is that paul thomson's head

  • sublime

  • @Kubrickfan1 You are obviously a super intelligent person to like both Roxy Music and Stanley Kubrick :-)

  • @fidomusic bless you!

  • @fidomusic really nothing better than those two art summits...

  • love on ya bedroom bowie x

  • What can I say.....was at the same concert, same year at the Glasgow Apollo...just unbelievable...Roxy Music....Way ahead of their time... :-)

  • Nice one Robbo, haven't seen this video for ages

  • Opening Number November 1979 TOUR@ The Tower Theater Philadelphia

the intro was AT LEAST 5 MINS LONG>>>>AS ALWAYS THEY ABSOLUTELY KILLED IT WOW

  • I was at the Newcastle gig in 79 and when he strolled on when Manzenera started banging the chords out it was such a memorable moment.

  • @mashamorgan I saw them in Liverpool in 79 doing this. Great stuff!

  • What is the name of this song? I know it's from the album. Manifesto. Please do tell.

  • Lead song of the album, named the same name

  • Manifesto ;)

  • tight song. I love the Manifesto album! Classic Ferry..

  • U2 "borrowed" heavily from the Roxy Music Library.

  • @owlrun fuck U2!

they can't carry Brian's dinner jacket!

  • Awesome

  • superb they just don't make music like this any more !

  • Sure they do, look around! The music does not stop because one band retires!!

  • I can see where Bowie got 'Lodger' from.

  • I came close to blows with a dude who said to me that Brian Ferry was a poor man's Bowie.

  • @silverfinger He was most likely drunk. They are both great but unique to themselves. I think Ferry is less commercialized as well as more interesting.

  • Never wear new shoes in front of Bowie. Indeed, unfortunately it's not the case here, an historical impossibilty cos Lodger dates back to 78

  • An amazing track with no chorus. This concert DVD is a must own for any Roxy fan. Thanks for uploading!

  • : )

  • love this song.. words are wonderful! ..listen!

  • spock!! spock indeed!! now that made me laugh out loud, great song from a great band, from a great era.

  • That suit is just superb

  • What a voice Mr Ferry is blessed with. Unique.

  • I may be wrong, but think Alan Spenner is playing bass.

  • No it's Gary Tibbs. Alan Spenner is an Keyboard/synth. player. Look for Gary tibbs on google...

  • The guy on keyboard is David skinner. He didn't play with Ferry that long.

  • yes i know this is David Skinner. But on the album it's Alan Spanner/Paul Carrack on keyboards...

  • Watched this video already 50 times and i can't get enough of it! Gary Tibbs on bass is perfect. His the best roxy have ever had !

  • Nice eye brows!

Oh, yes it was a different time!

  • ROXY MUSIC !!! Forever the Best Band in town ;O)

  • SING IT SPOCK!!!!.....just joshin', luv Roxy and BF

  • The inspiration for many bands, Duran Duran, ABC, Talk Talk, Franz Ferdinand, a little Killers, Icehouse, and on and on

  • Miss this band, saw them different times in germany, first when i was 17 at a festival in Hannover, together with Canned Heat + others. Now i`am 52, where is the time gone ?

  • I saw them on the Manifesto tour in 1979 in Liverpool!

    Style with substance.

  • And I bet you got a leather box jacket the next day!

  • lastima que la intro no este completa

  • Roxy in my heart forever.

  • Gary Tibbs on bass...

    The Vibrators

    Adam & The Ants

    The Fixx

  • Great bas player!!!

  • I love this song!

  • Ik vind da en tof lieke

  • I saw them in Boston Mass. when they did this tour, no doubt it was one of the best shows i ever saw. I saw hundreds in the 70's.. Bryan came out with this same suit on too. They did the entire Manifesto Album then all the hits.. Pure musicanship at its best

  • I saw them at Apollo in Glasgow 1979. opened with this song, with a long drawn out intro. each band member was hidden by a vertical venetian blind which rose slowly to reveal them. Obviously Bryan was last, by which time the crowd were in absolute frenzy. great piece of showmanship I thought - and what a song too !

  • My brother and cousins saw the Manifesto tour up north, while I was sweatin' down south. But I gotta say I thought about SPOCK the second the vid started. What' up with that Uwhora!!!!!!!

  • Is it me or does BF look like Mr. Spock in this video? He's boldly going where no manifesto has gone before.

  • Cette tournée est passé par Paris, j'y étais !

  • I really dig this. Thanx alot. Do you have the rest of this concert. We Roxy fans would really like to see it . Once again thanx alot.

  • The 2-disc "Concerto" release is from the '79 tour -- Denver, specifically -- and kicks off with Manifesto...a great opener. Appreciate the posting, Robbo61!

  • I have that concert on CD. Manifesto is the best song on it.

  • Thanks for posting. One of my fave Roxy tunes ever!
