  • omg i have 2 of these. one i bought in the collection one i found hidden in my mac this week they are the SOFTEST brushes i have ever used. i am in love <3

  • why don't you like the 227 for eyes? not criticizing, just wondering.

  • ...

  • I gotta say you definitely missed the concept of these brushes. One brush two sides used in one product. A mineralized product ideally. For example swirl the eye brush in the e/s and apply in the same manner you would if the brush was all one type of bristle. You'll see that each side behaves in a unique manner and so much more efficiently especially when used with mineralized products. The results are ingenious.

  • i heard the kabuki brush is amazing for foundation, whose used it? if so how is it as a brush

  • Do you think the mac cinematic face brushes are worth buying? is the quality as good are original mac brushes?

  • Hi christine i know this is a bit late for me to ask, but why is the metal bit around the brush different to the original mac brushes. I bought the 234 and i noticed that the metal bit doesnt match the 217. When i saw the brushes on this video, i thought it might have been because you might have recieved these as samples?

  • Thanks for the review i purchased the 235 brush becuz i luv my 227,179 just becuz i love love my 182 and smoked ruby eyeshadow i am very very happy with my what i purchased.

  • I think u should do ur research a lil more b4 jutting these brushes, just because it's labeled as a "eye" brush doesn't mean u need to use it just for the eye area. Another thing the synthetic side picks up more of the product that the real hair side just something u should know.

  • Can I say that I love you without being creepy LOL

  • one makeup brush can have multiple uses...with these brushes being half synthetic and half natural hair it only adds to their versatility. it's easy to judge these and call them gimmicky without giving them a try. i adore the 235 because i can use the synthetic side for undereye concealer and flip to the natural for shadow. it's like combining the best attributes of the 227 & 252 brushes! the brushes are well made for a good price...what more is there to explain?

  • Loving the honest view. Great job.

  • I Bought the 235 today at mac and she said the Black was the natural and the synthetic was the other side. She also said to blend with natural side and pack on color with synthetic (thats what it's best for) So which is it? lol COnfusing

  • There's a great dupe for the new "179" at royal brush.com. Although its not split, it is synthetic and feels and works AMAZING, I own it and loove it! AND its around $14 not $47. Thumbs up for dupes!

  • I had the 234, 235 and the 128 in my shopping bag until viewing your review. The 235 was the first to be removed from my shopping bag, next was the 235. I was pretty much sold on it until you said the color bleeds through. In the end I am not getting any of these brushes. With the economy in such disarray I need to be more cognizant of how I spend my money. I truly appreciate your honesty. Thank you.

  • I don't get the point of two-side brushes?

  • @MissAstrid17 its just to eliminate the use of using two brushes i suppose

  • i think the 128 is probably one of more useful of the 4 imo as a blush brush for cream and powder as well for contouring. the 234 kind of reminds me of the 217 and the 224 put together. 235 would be useful to use to highlight the brow and use as an "eraser" to correct the edges of your eyeshadow kind of like how some people use the 214 for.

interesting concept from MAC but it's kind of pointless in a way too. :s

  • I would like all these new brushes... if they weren't duo-bristled lol. I really don't get it! So gimmicky -_-

  • how do you afford all these products?

  • can anyone tell me where the info about the brushes being made in china is? not that it matters .. i just purchased rediculous about of back ups!

  • Comment removed

  • Are you sure that it's not the synthetic side (white side) is used for packing on the color and the natural (black side) is used for blending? At first you mention you used the white side to pat in color but then you say the white synthetic side is used for blending.

  • everything is made in china!!!! these american cars may be assembled in Detroit but all parts are still made in china!!!! bring back manufacturing to the US and this country MIGHT be able to dig itself out of the hole we've all created!!!

  • Ehhh this seeks super gimmicky to me. I adore mac brushes but at their price they are a calculated investment that I want to perform well and reliably on a day to day basis. I have no interest in paying more for a gimmick on a brush that is already a significant chunk of money.

  • Meh...I think I'll pass.

  • 234

  • Dual ended brushes suck, I hope MAC never gets the bright idea to make those. I'll probably grab the 235 at the price it's worth a try. Thanks Christine!

  • Christine, how would you go about washing and drying the kabuki buffer brush? i've always wondered..

  • EVERYONE LOOK AT 6:19 PLEASE, LOOK AT THE FERREL HOW DIFFERENT IT IS, THATS CHINA QUALITY ALL THE WAY. I BOUGHT FAKE MAC BRUSHES FROM EBAY THAT WERE SENT FROM CHINA AND THE FERREL IS THE SAME. PLEASE PEOPLE DONT BE MAD AT ME, BUT I THINK YOU SHOULD ALL KNOW.

  • its not the concept people, the most important thing about all this is that they are made in CHINA. WTF not in the USA, JAPAN, or CANADA but China. Talk about profits, what ever happened with quality first its all about profits now, how dissapointing but i still bought myself 2 of each so i will just shut up now.

  • @studpolicesexy You can't be sure that just because they were manufactured in China that they are poorer quality, though - that is a rather broad and pretty harsh generalization to make. It's one thing if your brushes disintegrated, smelled, leaked dye, broke, etc. and there were indications of reduced quality, but I haven't seen that yet. Only time will tell if they hold up well, of course, but I don't think anyone would want a review 2 years later :)

  • @studpolicesexy I agree, very disappointing. I don't trust Chinese products myself.

  • @studpolicesexy totally agree with you. they don't pay the workers in china as much as they would have to pay

American/ Canadian/ Japanese workers but they are not passing those savings to the customers but even so a lot of people are not comfortable with things being made in china for a lot of reasons

  • @studpolicesexy-almost all cosmetic brushes are made in China, due to sourcing of materials and the skill it takes to actually make these types of brushes. It is considered an art there. It's a stereotype that brushes made in China are poor quality, as ea company is very different.

  • @studpolicesexy these brushes are fantastic in quality! you shouldn't be so judgmental, but try them and use them before you dub them as inferior products.

  • @studpolicesexy - i agree to a certain extent but they do have their qs (quality standards) n they monitored stringently - the MNCs have an internationally ISO standards to comply to which they have incorporated into their production line - so even if made in china, the quality does not falter but the over heads work out cheaper. - celine from malaysia

  • @studpolicesexy I completely agree, I would have at least looked at them in the store, however I feel that since they are made in China I will not waste my time.

  • I don't get it...just buy a fully synthetic brush for your cream products.

  • i love how ur so honest <3 this collection is very disappointing

  • what the hell is this.... im trying to find logic in this but i really cant....

  • thanks so much for this review now i know there is something i don't want from this collection. thank goodness...

  • Hi, i have a question on the mac brushes in general, they are made from natural bristles but from what animal? like the 217?? are they made from boar? I would really be grateful if u could answer :)

  • @hani974 Usually goat I believe

  • @temptalia @hani974-different natural hair is used depending on the function of the brush. On these brushes, @temptalia is correct, the white side is a synthetic (non animal hair) and the brown is a natural hair. Most are probably goat, boar is used for stiff brushes like brow brushes, and pony is also used for softer brushes

  • @temptalia It's shaven animal hair, its goat or pony hair.

I like the skinsheen brush!!! I just work 2 years for mac so it was before my time, but I would love to get that! hope for a return :D.

  • @hani974 They are all either synthetic or goat hair bristles... The 217 is entirely goat hair, and they are a 100% cruelty-free company that does absolutely NO testing on animals.

  • they shoulda called this the two-faced collection ;)

  • I could see the point of the the smaller e/s brushes ( synthetic to apply, natural to blend) but even that seems pretty pointless considering how quick and easily you could grab another brush. For the price I think it's ridiculous. Why pay for a hair brush when it's only half hair?! Just my 2 cents

  • I can't see the point of these brushes...

  • Wow! You work for mac to always have all the collection? Because it is still very expensive to buy everything. But i love your channel, you're the best beauty guru. kisses

  • @BritishNow I believe this is her job/business, so it is probably more like a company purchase. Her site is not a blog, but a professional company that can only get this many hits if she is on top of new things.

  • @Liselorebon she was sent the brushes.

  • @BritishNow she doesn't work for mac, despite her creating an e/s for the bloggers' collection. they just send her products for consideration.

  • Do you think these where maybe purposed for mineralized products like one side wet and the other dry??? I don't own mac brushes so was wondering if they'll be actually usefull for 2 in 1?

  • The collection was realised yesterday in Italy and I bought all the brushes, both because I'm a collector and a Mua. I just washed them so i didn't really have the chance to play with them yet. The Mac Mua told me the concept should be applying with the syintetic side and blend with the natural bristles, mostly just powders. They feel really soft and I got a very good feeling during the wash, will see. Only thing that bothers me is that these brushes are made in china not france/japan as usual

  • the brushes remind me of the disney movie 101 dalmations' Cruella Deville's hair :(

  • I don't liked these brushes. Looks horrible!

I like much more the normal line.

I watch some new eyeshadows of this collection in the channel by russianbabe1981 and I liked so much.

    But this brushes..

    Xoxo from Brazil

  • So glad you did this review. These look really gimmicky. I'm totally skipping them (and I usually get the new brushes!) and saving my money.

  • I think i'll stick to the permanent line :P

  • im new to mac whats the semi precious collection?

  • I just don't understand why MAC didn't jut come out with a synthetic set of brushes instead of these split personality ones...

  • haha mac is trying to be different because a lot of companies are imitating their brushes.

  • These just seem weird to me. I think MAC is trying too hard to be different.

  • Jeez, try too hard much Mac? Can you say "gimmick"?

  • i think the 235 could actually be useful for applying cream shadow and then flipping it over to put a powder shadow on top.

  • Weird concept, struggling to see the point

  • They remind me of lady gaga's new hair: central parting, one side black n the other white... lol!!

  • They shoulve just made them synthetic .

  • @michelleh408 Very much agreed. They're trying way too hard here and it just comes off as a really transparent gimmick.

  • another thing! lol why not come with all synthetic brushes? i mean reeaallllyyyy?! lol ok now im done.

  • JUST WHY?! im beyond confused and just... wow. lol why not mix the bristles, what is the point? wow. wow. wow. how bout new paint pots? thats would be buzz worthy this is a mess.com

  • @MSJIGGLY2U lol Tamar.

  • this is so tacky

  • do you work at MAC?

  • thanks so much for this honest review!

  • i dont like them they look unattracive

  • When I started watching I was like "ohhh, MAC are coming out with new brushes?! And I won't be able to get any because I've no money!"

now I'm wondering what on earth MAC to release something like that.

  • I personally think they should have just made it duel ended brushes or made magnetic switch pieces if its meant for those who travel or possibly don't have the money to buy a full professional set.

  • I love MAC, but I gotta say, these look like a total waste of time! Your review was brilliant, you described these perfectly by comparing them to existing MAC brushes! X MAC, if you read these, dual ended would be a much better concept esp during the holidays for travelling!! X

  • ZOMG Mac totally ripped off Sam's Real Techniques angled kabuki idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111 Oh the blasphemy!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • @hepcat288 lol are you serious? angled kabuki's have been around much longer than sam's line

  • @aalamode and there will always be one moron who takes everything literally. smh

  • Thanks for your review. They're great.

But I don't understand the concept for these double sided brushes either. It seems like that was something someone had a dream about and decided it would work irl. They would have been better off just making double ended brushes instead.

  • Thank you so much for all of your reviews! :)

  • The 235 looks like the only potentially useful brush there for me, and only to start off a smokey eye... I imagine a lot of product bleeding between each side so I think it would be more trouble than it's worth! Definitely at that price it's not something I'll be spending money on.

  • I dont find the brushes appealing, they would look better if the were dyed in 2 nice colours.

  • I like the 227 for concealer and I feel like the 235 will actually be better for that purpose, apply with 1 side and then buff and blend with the other. Thanks for the review

  • I am thinking that Mac is running out of fresh ideas. There lack of innovation is becoming desperate.

  • FAIL Mac should have made these dual ended!

  • thanks for this review!!!

  • i think if you dont really know how to utilize synthetic vs natural fibers then these brushes wont really matter to you. Like i guess i get why it came out with a mineral collections cause you could use wet or dry but still i find this unnecessary. this was really insightful thank you. and congrats on your custom eyeshadow with mac!

  • Ok I think the 128 blush brush is the most useful cause u can use one side to apply cream products and the other side to set it with a powder product instead of switching brushing. But other then that this was a dumb idea Mac to make these brushes. Mac's started to really bore me this year

  • i don't understand the purpouse of having the divided hairs? is there a specific purpouse?

  • whats the point of making double sided brushes and whats the difference between the two sides.... anyone ....?

  • These brushes seem kinda weird.. especially that buffing brush!

  • do you think you could use the synthetic side of the 235 for concealer and the other side for setting powder?

  • @PinkyD64 Yes, you could!

  • Thank you so much for this video! I've been eyeing the brushes, but since they're so expensive I was dying to see what other people thought of them. Thanks!

  • I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!! i love your reviews you are amazing thank you for all you do!!!

    xo judy~

  • These remind me of Cruella de Vil !! :)

  • i dont get whats the difference with synthetic or natural bristels??

  • @lovesunset130 Natural are made out of animal hair, like goat, synthetic are not :) Some find that synthetic bristles are better for liquid/cream products and blending, while natural is better for packing on color

  • hmmm I'm not as excited as I thought i would be....thank you for such a great review! xx

  • These look ridiculous. Really, Mac?

  • i underestand how sometimes if u travel or if u spend tons of money on a brush u want it to work for all sorts of things but this concept is bad cuz most of the time unless its a flat shader brush we tend to use the tip of the brush so its kinda hard to when its split in the middle

  • i have been looking for a brush like the flat for the cheeks,, i got the same ont like the mac 128 from make up forever!! excited!!!!

  • are these new brushes limited addition?

  • @xJordanxox yes, they are LE

  • I love mac brushes and they have very few duds but this is so gimmicky. If I want a synthetic brush I'll use one, if I want a natural hair one, I use that one.... I couldn't even imagine having these as travel brushes...

  • @ag10v I feel like here they didn't intend to make these gimmicky but they're more gimmick than utility

  • @temptalia Yea it reminds me of dual ended brushes. I like that they save space and you can carry less brushes but they're so difficult to store so I end up avoiding them lol!

  • I don't understand the point...

  • I was going to buy the Fluffy "blending" brush.. But it's kind of overpriced, & I would rather spend my money on the 217 or something. The whole semi-precious collection looked like it would be really great, But it's really not that amazing :( The MSF's & mineralize blushes aren't really fitting for light skin tones like me!

  • For your Canadian viewers in Toronto, the 179 is usually avail. at the invitation-only EL/Mac warehouse sale(s) at a greatly reduced price from what it was originally sold at.

  • sorry... I should specify... I mean the ORIGINAL 179... the body brush. It's awesome for dusting MSF's onto your arms or collar bone in the summer and/or for going out at night.

  • oh my gosh im excited to get thoseQ!!!!!

  • lovedddd the video! thanx <3

  • Thanks for the review! Im actually excited about the 128. I see myself using the light colored side to apply and blend out liquid foundation. And then id used the dark colored side to apply my face powder or a powdered blush.

  • @berriturtle I used it this way, and TBH, it wasn't that great - just because when you apply a face powder, you tend to want something fluffier so you get soft but even coverage vs. heavier coverage

  • I just don't really get the concept. :(

  • Comment removed

  • Whats the point.... I feel like its gonna give two different finishes..

  • pure gimmick.

  • I feel like I would have been more likely to buy these brushes if they were just the white side all the way through....I already have really similar comparisons in black (i.e. 182, 224, 116) so it seems redundant to get another "half" brush. If they had made it the synthetic side totally I think I would have been sucked in. Thanks for the review!

  • great objective review! I love your videos! Thanks!

  • @SophiesMakeup Me either just dumb. lol

  • These brushes are a big fat fail. Appreciate the review though!

  • Two-sided brushes?! Seems like a good idea, but not really.

    Awesome Review!

  • I assumed that the different sided brushes have been made that way purely because the collection is SEMI-precious......ie just a gimmick :)

  • Not really happy about this new collection Oh wells still love you Temptalia

  • really appriciate the comparisons, the whole split thing doesnt apeal to me..they look like ..failures haha, but thats just me! :)

  • cruella de vil brushes LOL

  • This is a really great review! Thank you! I think I'm going to skip out on these brushes.... It feels like they tried to make the brushes seem as if they can do more than they actually do.. :\

  • Ooh this is a review I need! :)

  • "Kind of like Cruella Devvil brushes.." Oh my gosh, you are so hilarious! And your blog is amazing, your blog is legit how I pick what I buy.

  • These brushes are ridiculous! MAC needs to step up their brush game and stop trying to come out with all these sensational collections!

  • when will they release this semi-precious collection?

  • @neritrinidad July 7th in stores!

  • THANK YOU!

  • Your channel and blog are such a wonderful resource for me and I refer to your videos and comments often.

    Thank you !

    Donna xoxo

  • Thank-you for this in-depth review Christine :)

  • seems like mac is running out of ideas!

  • Love the brushes here ♥ :)

  • The FULL review for Semi-Precious is coming in the next hour or two!! This is just the brushes because I wanted it to be separated out :)

  • @temptalia aaah thank you :-) I can't wait to hear your opinion !
