Wow - this was the first musical I saw with them in it - what a wonderful memory. Thanks for uploading. If only it had been recorded rather than a studio cast,
what with all the chandeliers, dancing cupboards, scenery flying left right and centre, and all the special effects in todays musicals THIS little scene remains one of the most iconic and mezmerizing moments in musical theatre history..it's just a polka, two people dancing...but oh, wouldn't you want it to go on forever !
I shall never forget during the run of the King and I. Virginia Mckenna asked everyone down to her house for a party and everyone had a great day. There were so many parties and when the show finished everyone cried. Must put my photos on facebook. Dilwyn if you want to get in touch I would like to here from you. It would be nice to have a party with all the children who are all adults now. email address is on the last comment.
I worked on The King and I as a dresser and I ended up dressing The children and Virginia hereself as the swing dresser. If anyone from the show wants to get in touch my email is wantstowrite@yahoo.co.uk my name Linda. As I also worked backstage on this Royal variety show with the children. It was a fabulous show to work on
I was in this show as a kid!!! This is the only footage I've ever seen of it. Fantastic memories, Brynner and McKenna were total stars. Thanks NealeUK
@DilwynJones Hello. Thank you for your comment! This clip is taken from the Royal Variety Performance 1979. Also in this segment is "The March Of The Siamese Children", which I may upload soon!

Amazing to relive 32 years ago. So many stores from our 15 months on this show. Would love to reconnect with anyone that was there with me.

@Dirkdebruyne I would love to do that especially with a girl dressed like Anna in that enormous swirling hoopskirted gown up there. XD

Virginia McKenna won the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance. An inspired production.
