naturally you're right. But it's not only about those powerful corporations wanting people not to know about their dubious business deals. It's also about the ignorance of the average Western European. The majority of people here is not interested in things like illegal mining, civil wars, genocide and the role of the big corporations and even if they found out, they wouldn't change their behaviour. They would just go on buying a new mobile or computer or flatscreen every year.

I: good point but you can not ONLY blame the journalists. Due to the fact that media generally work according to the rules of the market they unfortunately have to meet the demand. And on the strength of my own past experiences there isn't a great demand for critical journalism in western societies. there were more reports about it. But at the moment a broadcaster can make a lot more money with things like casting or reality shows than with reports about the problems of our country or on our earth just because most people are ignorant and irresponsible. Read what Adorno and Horkenheimer said about the culture industry! I can sum uo that mass media and international companies play -just like you said before- an important role but it's still about what the individual thinks and does.

They purchase the materials from assayers like Johnson & Matthey, Engelhard, and other industrial refiners who will provide a99.999% product. Considering gold is rarely thrown away, it is indeed recycled. Ask yourself the origins of the gold. Sure you could use spectroscopy but that won't change the fact that gold reintroduced into the market to pay for rebuilidng Europe isn't clean.

Capacitors, although old school electronics can use many types of dielectric. Most cell phones today are solid state so do explain the minerals useage? Do look up semiconductor IC's and how they are made.

I for one want solid evidence listing what electronic devices have coltan and tantalum. When I look under the hood of my cell phone I see a PCB (printed circuit board) and IC's (integrated circuits = computer chips). If your phone has any large capacitors, something bigger than a few microns, then that cell phone is a cinder block
