I'm reading House of Leaves for the first time, and I feel just like I'm back in Catholic school, having all of my comrades tell me how God speaks to them, and here I am devoid of any such message. Now I have my same comrades telling me how profound this book is, yet I know they can barely scratch the surface and anything beyond the superficial is lost on them. Profound is a severe discredit. This book is so much more than I could ever hope to grasp, but there in lies the joy.
