Put an auger and intake at the edge of the scraper, leading to a pipe routed past the exhaust to melt the collected slush- pump the melted ice chips into the tank! Never run out of water... Won't need to clean up with a shovel anymore.
@CPD0123a ah, I understand. I just drive it around in a circle and keep pushing it near the side, then run around the rink with a shovel and scoop it up. ;-)
@CPD0123a it's just made from an old lawn mower. It was probably $20 in steel for the blade. Everything was salvaged. If you can weld, you can make one!
@web4deb NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could tell it was an old lawnmower, but just not how hard after the thing was gutted. As for the problem with the shavings, I'd take a sheet of thin metal and mount it at ice level on the edge of the blade to catch it. (Just round off the edge or sharpen it on one side to help it grab the snow and not just push it) Whether it'd actually work or not, I don't know, but I'd think it is worth a shot.
@CPD0123a that's about what I did...took a 4' piece of steel bar and beveled it to 45 degrees then mounted it to a frame so it just scraped (shaved) any of the bumps on the ice. Worked great!
how many people in the world can honestly say this? "Sorry I can't hang out right now, I have to go Zamboni my backyard rink.?" thats awesome. looks like the ice shavings come off the side of the blade though, those cause any problems?
Are you selling these? I just posted a video response of our girls on our backyard rink in MN. We could really use something like this!! It's amazingly hard to get good ice.
@SGKEProductions It was just a fun little project. If you can find an old riding mower, just take the mower deck of and hang a blade under it. I almost never use the water on it. Just scrape the ice a bit and then hose it down.
I have an idea that i think might be possible...instead of making an ice skating ring why coulding you make a path through the would like and ice skating trail????might take some work but let me know you guys opinion
i wish i had a mini iceskating rink. it's awesome to have a good spot and train on your own or with some friends . and just a question is it possible to use a floorcloth?
I have to do it the old fashion way with a mop and hot water.. but if you can really make it look good on a lake or homemade rink, it really is a beautiful sight to look at =)
Haha looks like its takin you quite some time to clean that ice. u could wake up in the morning clean the ice and have to wait til the morning to skate on the ice but then ud have to clean it the next morning hahahaha
I have a truckmount carpet cleaning unit and when I have my ice down I start the truckmount. The water is at 300 psi and the temp is about 190 and it makes the best ice EVER. People have said they have never skated on ice that smooth. I spray it blue, and on the snow bank I put up my sign "IceStralia" and put two gum boots into the snow and put up another sign "no diving" People love it and we have fun. Yes I am from Australia.
I got the mower and tank for free. The engine was no good so I got a small surplus engine replacement. I purchased the steel for the blade and a bunch of purple paint! Maybe $200 at most.
whoa...you make me feel so *&^&^ lazy and 'not so bright'....! things we do in the winter! ...and I watch videos! You must be an engineer/inventor...I could see the hydroponics greenhouse in the background. OK ....I'm inspired...I was going to watch 'Liar Liar'...but I think I'll clean out the workshop.
Not gonna lie, this is pretty much the coolest thing I've ever seen.

Three questions: How much did it cost to make?
How hard was it to make?
Where the heck do you find two morons to dislike this???????????
