@Sinizinboy It's not a rip-off. Shep Pettibone re-used this bassline whch he originally created for Into the Groove. He produced both Madonna's and Alisha's songs.
@ThanasisGR His version wasn't bad!...based in heavy percussion typical of that time on the 80's , but the feminine voice of Alisha made the difference...Thanks for bringing that up...most ppl think that this one is a Madonna's song.
I have to correct you on this since as far as I know this is far and away Alisha's most popular song. It was her only #1 dance record and charted higher on the hot 100 than anything else. Neither Too Turned On nor All Night Passion even cracked the Hot 100.
@MrWordman123 In terms of peak position on the top 40, ok. Not to nitpick, but putting aside the fact that only this topped the dance chart and that this is both better remembered and still gets more airplay than bounce back, I stand by this song. I would venture to say that Too Turned On and All Night Passion are also both better remembered than bounce back, at least here in NY. Still, I agree the Strauss remix of Bounce is my 2nd fave of her songs.
Going by the numbers, Too Turned On was not as popular as this one. Baby Talk got to #1 on Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart (vs. #6 for Too Turned On). Then Baby Talk also got on the Hot 100, while Too Turned On didn't chart. Why do you feel Baby Talk wasn't as popular? Overall I think Baby Talk is the better tune anyway!
@jarvass Sorry for the delay but I had Morxis80s a bit unnatended lately...you just pointed out the right thing...I just based my opinion in the posts and hits when I uploaded this song but now I realised this is the tune that rocks!...thanks for your informed comment.
For the record, Baby Talk was released in December 1985, a full 5 months after Madonna's Into the Groove. Surely Madonna has aped other people's sounds and styles, but not in this case.
@stefanybody ITG was recorded in 1984. The single version of "Baby Talk," which came out in late '85/early '86, sounded similar to ITG because Shep Pettibone was inspired after remixing the Madonna song. Look up the original album version of "Baby Talk." It's less similar.
@stefanybody Nah, this came out after Madonna's solo album. Competing studios tried to find the same type of sound and music--Alisha was her biggest competitor at the time. But when Material Girl came out, she blew past everyone (thanks to Mtv). But Alisha was played in clubs for at least the next 5-7 years before techno house started getting bigger.
@torr59622 OH PLEASEEEEE. ARE U SAYONG MADONNAS NEVER COPIED ANYONE AND SHES SO ORIGINAL LOL. SHES THE BIGGEST POSER AND ALWAYS STEALING THEY IDEAS OF OTHERS. THERES NOTHING ORIGINAL ABOUT MADONNA. SHES A PUPPET
I never said she didnt copy anyone. Im just telling you what happened in 85 before her 2nd album came out. But since your on the subject, who did she copy off of?
@torr59622 marilyn monroe. boy george, pat benetar, cyndi lauper, abba, marlene dietrich, drag queens. do u want me to keep going? lol. madonna is the biggest fraud on the planet
I thought you were meant in her beginning. Im talking when she had the sprayed hair, the lace underwear outside of her clothes. Her whole image at the start was because of Jellybean Benitez and then she blew up. I give you she copied by the time 89 rolled around, but I never made the Lauper/Boy George/Benatar copy connection. Your sound like you mean 1990 Madonna-in that case I agree. But she was out before Alisha and that was my original point.
This song takes me back to the Palladium (NYC) when it first opened up - I can still picture the huge video screens going up and down - the best light show - great sound system.
this song had abeat and groove that made u get up and dance..some people thought this was madonna when this song came out. That's when all the madonna sound alikes were comin out...alisha, e.g. daily, etc...regina
Shit, I Thought This Was From Tiffany! LOL Boy Was I Ever So Wrong!!

The song is fun, don't get me wrong, but the bass line is a blatant rip off of "Into the Groove."

@breaks0 Actually this is her second most popular song peaking at #68 back in 1985, however "Bounce Back" made it to #54 in 1990
