It is considerable difference btwn Russian and Ukrainian languages. Russian is closer to Bolgarian, Ukrainian to Polish.

luizkata--There are plenty of artists seriously involved with social issues in the US. However, you can't have a musician serve as the voice of the American people, like Ruslana can do for Ukraine. US is far too diverse for that. During my time spent in Ukraine and Russia I heard plenty of horrible pop music, and I'm sure that many of the people producing those songs haven't done anything for anyone but themselves. Oh yeah, the US has plenty of problems as well.
