DDT is both cheap and very effective.

There are equally effective pesticides which are much more expensive. What this means in a place like Africa is that they do not get used at all or only in a few localized regions. The result of effectively banning DDT for combatting malaria is millions of unnecessary deaths.

I suggest look at the numerous countries that originally went along with the western arm-twisting and banned DDT but eventually went back to using it. It was very effective.

Also, I think it uses a blu-ray player laser, so burning a mosquito without targeting the wings would require sustained aim for a second or two, which may be ineffective. Plus, it needs to be safer for humans to be around (eye injuries and such) and cheap enough for third world nations.
