Y so many haters. You can't compare guitarists. Everyone has their own style and technique. Dave and Kirk are both great players who have inspired many people to pick up a guitar and learn for themselves. @WheresMySpaceButton Wrong again. Dave Mustaine wrote most of the stuff on Kill 'Em All but was kicked out of the band prior to recording the album. Thats why you will hear different solos on the demo version and the final version. In the demos, Dave Mustaine is playing the solo's. On the actual album, Kirk as added his own solo's (Which I by far better than Daves btw).

i used to be obssessed of kirk hamett. I thought he was the best. HAHAH well ive been playing for ten years now and now realize he isnt that impressive at all. Death magnetic has really weak solos and i dont think kirk evolved as a lead guitar player. I still cant really talk shit though lol

When i started playing i was obsessed about Tom Morello and i thought 'Wow, how does he do that?' And i didn't mean the crazy effects. But then, when i played for a bit i thought 'Damn, that's an easy ass stuff, how could i be obsessed about that guy?'. I still admire him as a guitarist though, him and Kirk :) And i agree about the solos on DM, nothing significant there...pentatonic shreds : P

when I play that kind of pentatonic scales, it's always the index finger muting the sound. the index finger is always placed that way so when you release the bend of the g-string it comes back and touches your index finger . That's how he does it I think.

best thing to do to play like Kirk is to learn all of the pentatonic scales(that means you gotta learn the modes!) and play them backwards and forwards. come up with several picking patterns and speed them up and learn to create slow melodies with them. this way you not only can play like kirk, but you're very original. that's not to say that kirk only knows the pentatonic scales but he does use them quite a bit. so learn those and have fun
