  • "why are you an atheist?" the question should be other "why dont you believe in supernatural irracional things?"

  • i'm Atheists and i told a girl in my ICP class that (i'm in high school currently)

and she looked at me shocked and confused

    why???

because i'm one of the guys that hates getting in trouble always gets on the honor role and i'm nice to everyone unless they hurt me first

she thought that Atheists were these evil messed up poeple

i feel sad for her that she's been brainwashed so badly

and i fear for myself so i haven't told anyone else in my schol besides my friends

    This is scary and sad

  • @490er So, hang in there, it will be easier when you are older and people have had more time to learn about the world. There will always be ignorant or bigoted people, but it won't be as bad as it is in high school. Also, they have classes on Insane Clown Posse at your school?

  • @timotheophany lol no intergated chemisty and physics

i hate being in that class to

i was told it was the same thing as chemisty and it turns out it's the retard version

lol now i'm stuck taking 2 honors science classes next year

  • @timotheophany Lmao, that was my first thought too.

  • @490er Just because of the mood I'm in... "i'm Atheists" - How Many Are You? hee hee. Had to do it.

  • @490er thats pretty fucked up dude that your scared, fuck em! lol im an atheist and i dont care who knows it, but i live in England which is different to some places in the US, the only people i have to hide my atheisem from is my deeply religious catholic nan and my other christian nan lol they would start crying.

  • @LongLiveTheBlues lol all my family is Roman Catholic

if i told everyone at school my parents would find out

currently i'm only forced to go to youth group so i'd rather not tell my parents for i fear i'll be forced to go to mass

  • @utugiwamagegania Furthermore, your reference to 9/11 is moronic. As you'll recall, it was religious fanatics who did that, not atheists. I'm not going to tell you that an atheist could never commit an atrocity, but we can be pretty confident an atheist wouldn't commit an atrocity *because of* atheism. You can't say that about belief in god. So think before you argue next time, my friend.

  • @utugiwamagegania You are putting words in his mouth. And, you are begging the question by saying that "we have no metaphysical reference for anything." You're assuming that a "metaphysical reference" is a prerequisite to morality. But clearly, atheists are quite capable of being good people: contributing to charity and performing acts of altruism. If a metaphysical reference for morality were necessary, how could they do this?

  • pure genius

  • The bottom line is perfectly simple. The people who believe there is a god MUST provide certifiable evidence of judicial quality to prove the existence of that god.

That is when all the aggro starts because they can't do that : And that is because there isn't any evidence !! They are making the claim, they are making a life based on this belief the onus is upon them to provide the proof . Atheists don't make any claims of the existence of a deity so they are not required to provide proof.

  • His nod at 3:22 needs to be gif'd

  • @MPHcirca1989 It's easy to prove us wrong. Show us god, or a magical fairy, or the flying spaghetti monster. I think if you can do that, you can easily prove us wrong.

  • @MPHcirca1989 Thats easy. Prove God exists, and atheism will be proved wrong. Over to you...

  • We have to save the world from these divisive religious nuts. My Atheist friends will enjoy "Religious fanatic Debates Atheist" on my channel.

  • Did anyone see the video, this one is a follow up to? What a difference! Dawkins is calm and eloquent, while the others a banshees (the ESPN guys is just a wee better than them)

  • @MPHcirca1989

If you mean that it would be funny if a god was proven to exist, I don't think so, but the point of being an atheist is that we CAN be proven wrong, unlike the religious, with whom no amount of proof is enough.

  • @MPHcirca1989 I'm not sure I understand the meaning of your comment.

  • Richard dawkins rules!

  • All life on Earth was created by Extraterrestrials. Our ancestors called them gods, angels, cherubs, etc

EVOLUTION and GOD = BIG FAIL

  • @prototypo Even with that unproven theory evolution still exists. Evolution is common sense... think about it.

  • A guy stands on a stage with charisma, talking and making up stories on a subject he knows nothing about? That's confidence. A guy sits calmly in an interview or debate, carefully and strongly conveying air-tight arguments on why his position is more sound than the opposition's? That's conceit. How sad our topsy-turvy world is. The popular scientific field needs more RD's to counterbalance loopies like Hovind.

  • It's nice to see Dawkins get interviewed rather than yelled at, but I felt like he came off as at least slightly conceited in this one.

  • At the 2:00 mark or so, read the ticker at the bottom of the CNN screen. HA!

  • @tjenkins83 LOL, I never noticed that before!

  • @tjenkins83 so funny

    it's fake

    you can google it

  • Richard Dawkins is such a great advocate for atheism.

  • My two favorite Youtube videos on Richard Dawkins are "Dawkins confused does and doesn't know truth" and "Ben Stein talks about Richard Dawkins on"

  • @ninjapig2011 If evolution can evolve a horse and it can evolve wings, then Dawkins saying unicorns can't evolve in the right circumstances is amateur at best.

  • @Tercerokun -and as for the horn, what would be so hard to believe about a horse somewhere in the universe evolving a horn? Apparently cows, goats, and rhinos can "evolve" one.

  • @Tercerokun -a wingless unicorn is a horse. ???????

  • @Tercerokun -limited knowledge to say God doesn't exist? Yeah that's what I thought to. ;-)

  • If you searched the universe and stumbled across winged people riding winged horses, you'd say they evolved that way on that planet, but nevertheless, on Earth in our closed little mind bubbles, unicorns are impossible. Time to get another analogy and lose the snooty, "I'm smarter than everyone on Earth" accent.

  • WTF dude? thats not the point of the unicorn analogy lol... He compares the belief in god to the belief in an unicorn, both cant be proven and so, you cant say they exist. The fairy thing is the same, you cant prove fairies exist, thats the point, we dont know other life besides the earth and we use our limited knowledge to support the claim that god doesnt, exist. As Dawkins says, theres just no evidence, no justification to believe in any god. BTW unicorns dont necessary have to have wings ;)

  • And wouldn't a fairy simply be a small person tha evolved wings?

  • There are atheists that are geniuses. Richard Dawkins isn't one of them.

  • @Mossinator5000Deluxe What makes you say that?

  • This is the guy that says unicorns can't exist, but believes in evolution. Wait a second, wouldn't a unicorn simply be a horse that evolved wings and a horn?

  • The reason people are "intimidated" by atheists being vocal is because it makes them realize how stupid their beliefs are. There is comfort when more people share their delusion. When others question it, it makes theists realize that a lot of people are out there who do not believe in god.

  • WOW that man is soooooooo much smarter than that lady is

  • Buggering children is not my words either it was uncle Richards .in the hate speech i mentiondif you care to look it up.

  • djjdd

  • there is no god

  • Further to my last comment it is also bizzare that richard dawkins believes we should eat human road kill and screams in the streats of London that priests bugger children etc. This man has lived a very harsh lonely life and he is now trying to take that out on the rest of us. He should be ashamed of himself and as for your comments regarding my belief system i am not a christian and i am a biologist.

  • @cooldudesg54 You have a lot of opinions and very little facts or proof to support anything you claim. Priests don't bugger (your word not mine) children? Thats contrary to what I know of Catholic Priests but you don't offer any evidence to support your view. If Priests were buggering children would that not perturb your moral compass? If it would then why is Dawkins wrong in screaming his contempt for the molestation of the children? I must say that for a biologist you're awfully confused.

  • @cooldudesg54 he is not lonely he has been married and also has many friends like harris, hitchens, and all sorts of others, teachers, biologists, his TV show.. he is not lonely, just fed up with bull crap is what he is.

  • @cooldudesg54 nice try troll! Biologists have better things to do with their time than posting on Youtube..I believe your one of those 'christiaaaans' in the deep south who lives in a trailer park...:D

  • No i think you are completely lost on what i was trying to say, telling people there is no god is creating a very harsh reality. I think you will find that science does try and create reality, telling people that abortion is o.k etc is one such example. I would say that it is bizzare to create napalm, H bombs, and abortion pills to kill our own kind. I also think that it is bizzare cancer patients are charged ten grand a month for some pharmaceutical drugs.

  • @cooldudesg54 SCIENCE HAS NO MORALS....How many times do U people need to be told this.Science doesn't charge people for phamaceticals,GREDY Suppliers do. Science Does not say it's OK to have an abortion but it does show how to do one and have 1 survivor"The Mother".Science Does not drop H-bombs or Napalm on People,People do that. People need to get thier Morals straight and Stop USING SCIENCE as a tool to Immoral ends.Same goes For U Bible Thumpers, quit using that book for an excuse to Destroy.

  • @Urfullobull The first life began with the creation of the first replication of the "1st" sub atomic, sub particle. and the first process of complex multicellular organisms began from a single cell organism having a bacterium trapped inside of it, giving the cell a means to grow and reproduce. After that evolution takes effect weather you can grasp that or not. Over 100 billion "people" have lived and died much longer before religion, and much longer afterwards

  • @cptmuska ...and ? Just what is it Ur trying to tell me?

  • @cptmuska No points huh? I know Ur comprehension skills are not that poor.

  • The proofs of the Creation by an Almighty God Who is the designer of His Universe, is thankfully so abundant that we may feel confident in believing its fundamental truth. Glory to God.

  • @dyingtodeath If these proofs are so abundant, share one with us.

  • @dyingtodeath

    You are one misguided person.

  • I've had enough of this God Bullshit. I recon us Atheists should form a militia and fight for our own country with no word of GOD anywhere in the constitution! FUCK THIS!

  • @attractivue You are an atheist fundamentalist who is extremely dangerous, have you ever thought of becoming a nihilist ? Are you sure that you recognise the effect of your view on the world you surely cannot be serious with you comment "recon GOD Bullshit"

  • Damn (woah, almost said 'god'), I love this guy.

  • @TenguMT You can use 'god', provided you redefine it as 'reason accompanied by empirical evidence'

  • @ahmedeox I don't understand what you mean and how it relates to my comment :P

  • Richard Dawkins office is in Pottery Barn.

  • Richard Dawkins is an intellectual beast. I was going to write a comment saying how it is surprising that the host isn't screaming at him, but then I saw he was on CNN, not Fox.

  • Absolute genious.

  • The reason that why we are so hated by the fundies is because, they still think the Soviet Union still exists. During the 50's and 60's fundamentalism was drilled into the parents head to so call combat the non-religious Soviets and it for some reason still exists today.

  • That's what I call (verbally) kicking someone in the ass! Way to go, Richard!

  • @ericthekid you need to reconsider your porpoise.

  • @timotheophany or dolphin

  • @timotheophany purpose* just a gentle correction:)

  • @timotheophany purpose* just a gentle correction

  • @nrokasgnop I spelled it that way on "porpoise" ... I was replying to ericthekid's comment, in which he spelled it "perpose" ...twice.

  • @timotheophany okay sorry

  • @ericthekid You misspelled "purpose"... and you don't seem to know anything about atheists... I don't know any atheists who think life has no "pupose." Thats a mighty big assumption you have there.

  • @ericthekid purpose is subjective, christian purpose is not the same as islamic purpose, therefore who can really say what purpose is? it is mistaken

  • @ericthekid I didn't hear him say it was his "perpose" to do anything of the sort but since you mention does life have a purpose?

  • @ericthekid not when you consider the difference between creating your own purpose and being given a purpose.

  • man created god.

  • @MorganMarvinson - this.

  • Dawkins: "Atheists ... they are just people who hold a different belief system."

    What he said.

  • "a beautiful life" this man is clearly a hypocryte and nihilist. In his books he outlines his stance on abortion and all i can say is there is nothing beautiful regarding the mutilation of children who do not have a say in the matter. I have seen the pictures of children post abortion and they make me fear for the future of humanity. This nihilist lunatic is a fraud and should be imprisoned like any other fundamentalist who is a danger our societyas he has already led many to suicide.,

  • @cooldudesg54 Sorry to have to be the one to break it to you, but you are the lunatic here.

  • @timotheophany and what makes me the lunatic surely if you are to hold a stance on something such as abortion you must see what actually takes place. If not then you are clearly detaching yourself from the reality of the matter which is hidden behind the scientists who carry out such horrific procedures. And i must say unlike dawkins i am completely against abortion under any circumstances. So what makes me the lunatic timotheophany.

  • @cooldudesg54, this.

  • @cooldudesg54 scientists don't carry out abortion. doctors do

  • @cooldudesg54 so if your girlfriend or sister or whatever got gangraped by 3 dudes and became pregnant due to it. You would force her to raise the child?

Or if doctors could see in advance that the child will have a chronic disease and will not survive much longer than a few hours after birth, would you object for the child's removal in an early stage?

Obviously, if a woman got her 7th abortion last tuesday - she's a fckign lunatic. But you are way too close minded as well.

  • The deistic God is nothing more than the end result of 500 years' worth of calculated retreating on the part of religious believers - as each evidential avenue is closed off; as heliocentrism supplants geocentrism, Darwinism supplants creationism; the reach of their creator is curtailed. His once-secure defining characteristics(we were created in his image, he answers our prayers, etc.) have been chipped away. We're left with this nebulous fence-sitter of a God, designed to be unfalsifiable.

  • It's correct to say that the flying spaghetti monster argument is particularly effective in exposing the irrationality of theistic belief. It's incorrect to say that it only applies to theism however. The idea of a 'calculating intellect' is as much of a human construct as any other God: it's an unwarranted extrapolation of our own characteristics, if a touch more impersonal than theistic gods. There is still just as little evidence for a 'calculating intellect' as there is for a theistic god.

  • @BullInTheHeather1 Thanks for the comment... but I'm not sure what you mean by 'calculating intellect'. Care to elaborate?

  • @timotheophany - Actually I was quoting from Keysteeze's earlier post. I assume he was referring to the deist God of people like Thomas Paine and the founding fathers - a creator who pulls the universe out of a hat and then presumably buggers off to do some meta-fly-fishing, or perhaps some DIY in his super-shed, precluding him from intervening in the universe after that point. IMO this is the kind of craven halfway-housing you tend to get when people try to reconcile science with belief in God.

  • @BullInTheHeather1 Haha, okay, I understand now. I thought you were referring to the possession of calculating intellect by humans. I would argue that we do have that, at least relative to other organisms. Although new research is suggesting that we may not be as far beyond the pack in that regard as we might like to believe. I was just reading someplace about hyenas pre-planned complex hunting behavior - or maybe I heard it on NPR's Science Friday? It was fascinating ( and humbling).

  • @timotheophany He means the scientific truth is nihilism and everything is made up and as much bullshite as the next. For instance the only reason that this old fucker is a prof is due to the fact he sits in a room and memorises shite made up by other folk. He is just rational.

  • @cooldudesg54 You obviously don't know how people become profs. Even getting a phd or a doctorate in his field won't be awarded by simply memorizing "shit made up by other folk ".

Get some education rather than ranting dumb crap on the internet.

  • @BullInTheHeather1 well said a truly refreshing response and one which many would find hard to understand as the non scientific atheists do not realise that according to science everything is noncense.

  • why is atheism even a word? you dont have words for people who disbelieve astrology (zodiac shit) or words for people who dont believe the earth is flat. atheism is not a claim or belief it is merely a rejection of some one elses claim or belief that has not a shed of evidence in its favor.

  • I have heard that Richard Dawkins eats Hero Sandwiches at the local deli for lunch so I think the word Hero is firmly implanted in his brain. Hero is so overused that we go numb hearing it. Who isn't a hero today .

  • The flying spaghetti monster argument only works when you are talking about a particular God of any religion. It is not in any way a parallel to the idea that there was a calculating intellect behind the creation of the universe. The God question can be divorced from religious thinking.

  • This man is speaking so beautifully, so convincingly, so smartly.

Why the hell his teachings are not introduced into the school curriculum.

Why the bloody hell there are not TV stations and radio stations out there, with the everyday show talks on the subject, as there are the religious TV shows, which are boring the shit of out anybody with the IQ higher than 60.

Why the bloody fuck I see the retarded faces of the evangelists on TV - everyday, and not that of prof. Dawkins ?

  • Religious people should not insult Dawkins because God created him, according to them.

  • I love this man. Dawkins is my frickin' hero.

  • @scottmedhaug "you are not an atheist in relationship to something else"

Have you ever heard the ignostic argument? I've seen several publications that argue that words like "god", "theist", and "atheist" are inherently noncognitive, and therefore, they can only be described in relationship to specific parameters, such as the judeo-christian god or the pantheistic god etc.

  • Why don't religious people just pray in advance and commit mass suicide and go to their heaven if they hate non believers and Earth so much? Don't give me this respect faith crap, they refuse to show it.

  • Richard Dawkins FTW

  • being an athiest not not a relative concept.; you are not an atheist in relationship to something else. why don't they teach critical thinking in college anymore?

  • @scottmedhaug Are you for real? The WORD atheist denotes a relationship. An atheist is someone who is does NOT (a-) believe in a theist god (theist). Theism is the concept of a god that interacts with the daily world, and it has many permutations in various religions. Of course you can be an atheist in relation to Allah, Yahweh, Brahman, Vishnu, Mithra, Zeus, et cetera. Dawkins' point was valid - Christians claim to disbelieve in other theistic gods, so they are atheists regarding those gods.

  • @scottmedhaug Dawkins is only claiming to be an atheist with respect to one more god than they - the god of the Bible.

And only someone who hasn't been to college would think that they don't teach critical thinking. Let alone that someone who lacks such skills could become a distinguished science professor at Oxford. Get a grip on reality, if you still can.

  • @timotheophany Uh, actually they don't teach critical thinking in all cases. Most university educated liberals are pro criminals, pro islam, and pro tolerance of religion, something Dawkins is not.

  • @scottmedhaug

It's interesting that you should say that if someone accepts the atheistic point of view they will automatically become closed minded. As IF BELIEVING in a diety would by default make a person open minded! Ironically, from what I've seen when having discussions with those who believe in some kind of diety (especially the more popular ones), it is THOSE people who are EXTREMELY closed minded... about everything that does not fit their preconceived notions!

  • @Spetsop Not to mention that many scientists and philosophers constantly accept and formulate new theories and accept many others before settling on one they truly believe it. Better than hearing one as a child and clinging to it with their lives.

  • scottmedhaug, generally when you make a claim that an widely respected academic is lying, you had better back up your claim with some evidence. Otherwise you're just being a dick, and your input to the discussion should be disregarded.

  • I can see you have not taken any classes in logic or critical thinking

  • he claims that people have killed in the name of religion but not in atheism and that is a right out lie.

  • hitler stalin etc killed due to being evil people... not because the big bang was the origin of our universe, continental drift occurs or because we may have evolved from earlier species

  • Prove him wrong.

  • @scottmedhaug

name one person who has killed another in the name of a god they don't believe in. your ability to do so is equal to your ability to name one person who claims to have been abducted by aliens they did not believe in. zero percent.

  • Religous people shouldn't feel threatened, if they have strong believe in their faith, then how's a bunch of Atheist going to do anything about that? Why can't people just get along, now wouldn't that be nice?

  • @TasteLikeSushi it wouldnt happen

  • accually the more people accept the athiest views and become closed minded the better off for Christianity. Christianity loses when it is accepted by society.

  • @scottmedhaug How so?

  • @TasteLikeSushi I'm not sure if you want an existential answer or a rational comment. May I ask what you mean by 'how so?' Sorry if i'm confused

  • @scottmedhaug I would like to see both a rational answer and an existential answer. How by people accepting the atheist view more, they're becoming closed minded and how does it lose when it's excepted by society, you confused me on both parts there. Care to explain? I'm curious :O

  • you lot are like fucking kids

  • Ancient people believed that God was above a solid structure called the firmament. They thought water was up there, too, because they didn't understand evaporation. Then after the superstitious accepted the science of Galileo and Copernicus, they moved God to a "spiritual realm."

  • wat a saitan the saitann would be dancin his ass outt in hapiness lookin at these bastardsssss i hav no other wordss for dese kind ve fuckupssss

  • i have no kinds of words for the massive amount of stupidity you just showed.

  • Well my last words won't be: Oh my God, forgive me, mercy !!!

    they will be: finally....it's over

  • I don't get it. Online I've found so many people saying Richard Dawkins is an asshole. He seems like such a nice respectful guy. He seems like a very good speaker.

  • he got famous as an evolutionist. Unfortunately, the god delusion is his most famous book. His books on evolution are THE BEST BOOKS I have ever read. His explanations and descriptions are first rate. Unfortunately, religion makes him angry, and that obviously annoys a lot of people.

  • ALL RIGHT!!! DAWKINS FTW!!! He always chooses his words wisely. He had great points.

  • I would so want to 'DO' richard dawkins... Even if I am only 22... and a guy (but gay).

  • I think Richard Dawkins pointed to many people's biggest fear--THINKING!

  • I love Richard Dawkins he's my Idol

  • There is No god

  • There is no God ? Say it five seconds prior you die.

  • trust me I will you don;t know mee/

  • when ur dead thats it.

  • Even if someone is afraid of hell the few seconds before they die, that still doesn't prove anything.

  • that's such a dumb response myrmecophilous, i bet you didnt even check out the unified field theory, you think your so smart, im sure you turn on cnn and digest all the bullshit being hand feed to you, the reason why humans are destined for hard times is because of ignorant people like yourself, not even willing to investigate other possibilities, but keep living in your little pathetic bubble, its best if you stay there!

  • i'm a huge richard dawkins fan, everybody who reads this comment should investigate the unified field theory by nassim harramien, we've been contacted by e.t. but they (illuminati) are trying to suppress the truth, our history of humanity is much much more amazing than we think

  • while reading your comment I rolled my eyes so fiercely that it changed the angular momentum of the earth.

  • Atheism is the belief in no god, not a plot to destroy the world. I stay out of these debates, but I'm tired of seeing that atheism teaches evil. We het our morals from our parents, and from the United States constitution, not a fictorial book.

  • "Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man - living in the sky - who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of then things does not want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry for ever 'til the end of time...

    ..but He loves you!"

    George Carlin

  • "he loves you and he needs money"

  • "he loves you, but he's sending you to hell forever"

  • HAHAHAHHAHAHAAA! See ya there buddy.

  • @sonus03 George Carlin we'll miss you. R.I.P.

  • @sonus03 I think not sonus in fact religion has actually convined us that there is some form of reality. This reality has allowed us to create science etc and without it the nihilist reality created by science which would be of course the honest perception of the universe would lead us all into severe mental illness.

Dont forget the reality created by science is nihilism

  • @sonus03 love that quote

  • If morality - as defined by the bible - involves infanticide, genocide, racism, sexism, and cattle-sacrificing, I think i'll just stick to my heathen atheist morals such as caring for other human beings.

  • i agree, but cattle sacrifice? if they gonna eat it i don't have prob with that hehe

  • Theists are the ones without morality. Instead they preach mindless obedience to inexplicable commandments from an invisible man in the sky.

Anything their god tells them is moral because god says so.

That is not moral, that is fucking dangerous. They have completely suspended their faculty of critical thinking.

Pestilence, genocide, murder of infants, Hell -- according to the bible God has done all of these things to mankind when he was displeased.

    Yeh - that's real moral!"

  • So let me see..if you are an Athiest you have no morals but if you believe in God you automatically become endowed with wisdom and morals. Well if that be true, why is it everytime an Athiest shares their opinion they are threatened with violence from these religious people ? Oh, now I remember, it's because they have no intelligent response so they resort to un-thinking violence.

  • Agreed.

It also makes me laugh that this woman is calling Atheists threatening even though most suicide bombings are in the name of religion.

  • Comment removed

  • It was Richard Dawkins ( The Big Atheist ) who said " Being an athiest (((( freez )))) you up to live this life probably happily and fully)

For an athiest all the meaning of universe is himself

  • How would you know if you're not an atheist yourself? You are pretty good at telling other people what they're supposed to be. You're a bigot. Also I hope that English is not your first language - if it's not, then no big deal - I don't hold it against you that you're struggling to express yourself in English. But if English IS your first language, then you're a fucking idiot, too.

  • So what your meaning of life?

To hope and pray you get a God biscuit ?

Doing nice things just to get into heaven IS thinking about yourself. Anyway you look at Christians( other theists too )are as selfish as any atheist. (maybe more)

So get off you high horse. At least atheist are honest about it.

  • i agree all the meaniing in the universe come from myself, WHERE else would it come from, fairies? I want my family to live in a good, peaceful world, I feel sick at the idea of people suffering in the world, i want to make it better. That's enough meaning for me, i don't need an eternal, might i add BORING, heaven where nothing can be learned, nothing new can be discovered, no excitement of the unknown. no thanks! Sounds like HELL to me.
