I'll bet a fuel leak sprayed with gasoline or oil onto the engine block... you can see fuel pouring out and igniting under the car. Glad the mother and infant got out safe
a well involved vehicle fire, engine compartment communicating tthrough-out
1 rookie firefighter
1 demented veteran firefighter
Now, when the line is charged have the veteran graciously hand the 'nob' to the rookie. Tell the rookie to hit the front tire well with all the fire surrounding the front tire.
when the tire blows and sounds like a bomb. Watch rookie jump and lose control of his bowels.
Thumbs up to a good demo of proper FF. Full PPE and coordinated attack. Only thing I saw was the guy standing too close to the front bumper. Bumper shocks have broken more then a few legs of guys too close when they exploded. Nice fast response time...
thats what they get for buying a gook import made in communist china! they should of burned along with the car for not supporting the american economy and supporting gook terrists!!!!!
can they get any farther away from the fire when they were putting it out??? and how many people does it take to hold a hose??? other than that,,, great job...
I'm waiting for that Vince guy to pop into the frame and yell about how this is no problem for revolutionary new Wax-O-Matic, yours for just 5 payments of $69.99. But wait there's more...
@KosukiFire pretty much every volunteer fire dept on long island, and even in the north east region uses audible alarms ( the sirens) as another way of alerting volunteers aside from the pagers
Good job to the firefighters. While the haligan works to crack the corner of the hood I like using the circular saw to open the hood with an A cut or cross hood cut.
@joshyperk Sorry but up in the northeast most departments have those sirens on the firehall. Never have tornado warnings up there so the idea that they are connected to tornadoes is a bit odd for someone from there. That's a fire siren to anyone in the northeast
This happened to me last week December 9th 2010. My Volvo V70 just burst into flames as we were heading into town. Lucky we got out fast as in 30 seconds it was an inferno. God forbid this should happen to anyone infirm - they would not get out.We don't know what caused it and probably never will but we're just glad we're here to moan about it! 'Nuff said!!!
if i had to guess i'd say the exhaust broke off or something and touched the gas tank burning through it if it were made of plastic. Or it simply punctured the tank and the sparks from it ignited the fire. At the start if you look under the front of the van you will see something hanging down underneath.
Happened to my husband's chevy blazer right after he had had it serviced. It went up in flames in a matter of minutes. He remembered to take his laptop out of the car but forgot the satellite radio and my stroller! This was several years ago. We still laugh about it. We are thankful we only lost a car and not my husband! They never found what caused the car fire. Everyone on the highway stopped to gawk.
this is one of my worse fears, especially being a mom of two girls ages almsot 9 months and 4 years old, I dont know what I would do if I couldnt get 1 of them out but could get the other one out, my 4 year old has dyspraxia and aperxia and sensiry intergration/prossing disorder and she still hasnt figured out how to get out of her carseat(I think I am going to practice that with her all the time now incase something like this ever happens to us. it is realy screary:'( I am glad mom babe out!
@jsrcamp As a firefighter myself, at least where I am from. Car fires are few and far between. Fire can and will start pretty rapidly but "USUALLY" not fast enough to get your kids out before it completely goes up. The only way it would go up really fast is if there was some sort of accellerant in or on it. There are circumstances other than what I mentioned but rarely happen to where it takes a matter of seconds. Won't go into that tho. Hardly ever happens. I have never seen it.
@jsrcamp Get one of the "recues hammers" to keep in your vehicle. They're usually orange, about 6-8" long and have a carbide tip to break window glass and a seatbelt cutter at the other end so if the belts get tangled you can cut them. But like Lakearea said, getting trapped in a burning vehicle is extremely rare. I've been in the fire service for over 25 years and taken approximately 20,000 calls and I've only seen it personally twice in all that time.
@athull08 that is an "air raid siren" you hear as the 1st engine pulls up. alot of VFDs in that area use them to call in volunteers, and let other around to be aware trucks are going to roll soon.
@Federal3t22 Ah, right. I just never heard that because that doesn't happen in britain, you just hear the standard fire engine siren, which sounds just like an ambulance or a police car.
i love how their public alert siren came on when the engine was just getting OnLoc. they must have been real slow to respond and that was the realert....
3 things u need to save someone trapped in car on fire 3 men with phom tank 1 to do inside car 2 other do under car before it reach gas tank u should have knife to cut seat belt
@8g0h dude are you even a firefighter? sounds like your not you would never be able to get to the car if it was burning like that foam is used after the fire is out not to fight the fire the smoke would be so thick n toxic you would stop breathing in a min from it the gas tank will not explode unless it had a hole in it to expand the way your talking your going to get hurt the next car fire you go to dont tell people how and what to use to save there lives unless you have training ok
@starcraftguy1 The fire station is off to the right on the overpass...about a block away...the siren is just to the left of the expressway, close to the overpass...
@1skramer That is one of the Jericho Volunteer Fire Dept. alarm sirens. It is located just to the left of where the car fire is, closer to the overpass. Even though the members are alerted to alarms by radio-pagers, the sirens are sounded when there is an alarm.
MAN!!, I'm scared now in 2005 one of my family cars caught on fire, in 2007 another one of my family cars caught on fire, the in 2008 one more of my family cars caught on fire, 'm scared when the next car fire might be :(
