Personally i think that its pretty legal.

The only reason why its free- its somewhat old game and no one would really buy it.

Oh and yeah... the AlterIWnet version is kinda bit different from the original game, but only to the bright side, cuz it has servers where u can really choose from but the real ver.- u got some party's, lobby's or something like that.
