You need to be able to disconnect or make yourself distant from the internet that is today.
Internet It's so full of hatred and disgraceful comments that you need to be able to distance yourself. Sigur Rós does exactly that to your mind.. it's like taking a drug, you chill out and forget about almost anything. I know it's hopelandic, a nonsense language.. but i'm taking up Icelandic as my 3:d language and i'll do my best to make it just as good as my native language, then i'll go to iceland!
I loved this song, I've just discovered this artist and can't it enough of their music. It's just so soothing to you mind and soul as if he know's what you going through at the very moment. Mind is blown right now. AMAZING.
Let me first say that I have listened to Sigur Ros since they first came up in the mid-90s. I've listened to every single album and I don't think there is one song I don't like - for any reason. Until recently, I never really listened to "Hvarf-Heima" because for whatever reason, I didn't feel like it was a "real" album. One day, I decided to try something different, so I put it on. With songs like this and an obvious throwback to Pink Floyd with "I Gaer", this album has become my favorite.
@YouNeedToHearThis It's just the tone of Jonsi's voice...very high and shrill; it really grates on my ears. Other than that though it's a good song. And like I said, I usually love Jonsi's voice, this song is a rare exception.
@Mighselph It's not a language that he sings, they're not actual words, it's jibberish. Doesn't mean anything. I guess he just sings what he feels and it comes out as his songs, which i think that's beautiful in a way cuz it gives me chills everytime.. yes, it does kind of get annoying but.. their music makes it all worth it. Chills.
For me, sigur is the balm for my condition...the human condition. Maybe this is because sometimes in life I feel only the daily grind, the drudgery and dissapointing days, the heaviness. But I have long claimed that perhaps Sigur sings in nonsense language (Hopelandic) because we all understand the language of heaven when we listen to it, and suddenly what held us down in an unbelievable weight yields us. We can feel also the almost unbearable lightness of being inside such beauty...
@xerxerxex Strangely enough, I JUST found that out this past week as well! Don't even know where....think I was trying to see if there were any lyrics available for this song (there aren't). I would love to know the back story to its creation. But you are correct, the epicness has increased, haha.
@YouNeedToHearThis this song has no lyrics. It's in Vonlenska (hopelandic). Although around 02:25 you can hear Jonsi said something like "So love you....you....you...." but this song is pure hopelandic
@xerxerxex I had the great privilege of hanging out with Georg and his family in Iceland a couple of months ago. It doesn't surprise me that Georg dedicated a song to Salka. They're both truly delightful people
Thank you for posting this wonderful song. The deep sound and rhythm, which indeed does penetrate to the soul, makes me aware of a pleasant weight and significance in life. It makes me feel secure and encourages me to march forward.
@madrista77 I listened to the song a few days ago when I was experiencing great sadness. Listening did not make me feel any more sad. It was quite the opposite, almost as if Jonsi is saying "It's ok...I understand your pain. Everything is going to be ok."
Salka is beautiful name!

violetkasperhill09 8 months ago
probably their best song
though this is really really tough to say
probably along with Vaka
seems like the songs they name after the daughters are the best :-) also both salka and vaka are beautiful names
however: i love this songs complexity there are so so many uniquely beautiful moments in it but still everything is in one perfect flow

I just found out that this song was made for Georg Hólm's (The bassist fro Sigur Ros) stepdaughter Salka. Which makes the song more epic than ever.

@YouNeedToHearThis indeed it has, so sweet for Holm to create a song for his stepchild.
